Tavern Voices was founded out of the belief that a news outlet should challenge your beliefs, not bl The 20th Century saw the rise of broadcast journalism.

News was no longer days old as it made its way from the printing press to your front door. Now it could travel as fast as the airwaves could carry it. Every family began gathering around the radio and soon the television. As the 21st Century approached, the invention of the internet accelerated the journalism revolution. News, which traditionally had to be disseminated through major powerful compa

nies, was now given free flow to everyone. The great democratization of information had begun and the people could break through the corporatized editorial system. Then something went awry. A century’s worth of progress suddenly took a regressive track. The free flow of current events was reduced to unfounded, unsubstantiated rantings. Journalism gave way to opinions wrapped in the label of news with a headline designed to draw your click. Outlets and websites are designed to reaffirm your beliefs at every turn. Tavern Voices was founded out of the belief that a news outlet should challenge your beliefs, not blindly reinforce them. In an effort to break away from the echo chambers of modern technology and social media, it’s long past time to start a healthy discussion on the major issues gripping North Carolina. With one foot in the 20th Century swagger of traditional media and one foot in the digital age, Tavern Voices has set out to bring respect back to the editorial process. If you’re looking for a place to tell you what you want to hear, this probably isn’t it. However, if you’re looking for a real discussion to challenge your perspective, you’ve found the right place. Our promise is simple. No click bait, gimmicks, or wasting of your time. We aim to serve your Carolina news neat with a twist of reason. From Murphy to Manteo, let’s start a discussion.
