RSPB Cymru's The Inconvenience Store was launched in Cardiff’s on the 1st July, and will be there until 8th. It will be one of three pop-up stores in the UK, with others in Manchester and Edinburgh.
Its shelves will be stocked with everyday items, but not the type of the kind we’re typically used to.... 🤔
In fact, it will be a vision of how local shops and grocery stores might look in the not too distant future. A realistic forecast of some of the convenience items we might require if we dont act to tackle the human-induced nature and climate emergency. NOW ⚠ From sandbags for flood defence to canisters of clean air to sustain life in our increasingly polluted cityscapes, from rice grown here in Wales to vinyl recordings of lost birdsong - this is a stark message, so listen up 👂🏼
We need to attribute greater value to nature, not simply as somewhere to enjoy for its awe inspiring scenery, or to use for outdoor adventure persuits, but for the tangible items it provide us in our day-to-day lives.
World leaders are negotiating last-resort targets to save nature at two global summits this year:
The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) - hosted by China in October.
The climate change summit (UNFCCC COP26) - hosted by the UK in Glasgow, in November.
If we are to secure nature's recovery, the UK must step up and be a leader on action for nature and the climate. But for them to do this, political leaders need to see how much people across the UK care about nature and want their Governments to turn things around - and Wales could lead the way.
RSPB Cymru wants you to support this campaign by visiting them at St David's 2 shopping centre in Cardiff, but also at our online shop and helping add a selection of survival items to shopping baskets that will be handed over to the UK’s political leaders at the end of the eight days, with ours being handed in at the Senedd 🏴
This shopping trip doesn’t need your money – just your name. Every time 15,000 names are added to the petition, another product will be put in the basket. Our message to them – this year we need you to lead the world’s efforts to save nature by setting an example other nations can follow – we need targets for nature’s recovery at every level of government.
Visit www.rspb.org.uk for the English site or https://revive-our-world.rspb.org.uk/cy/ for the Welsh language site - or simply ask them to search online for Revive Our World and add your name to the petition. Or alternatively visit the pop up shop in St David's 2 Shopping Centre via the entrance off the Hayes, and sign it in person 📝
Help us reach try to reach 100,000 signatures in just 8 days 💚
Much love x
