Godwill and Nyasha sit down to discuss Blue Roses, a new poem by Godwill. The poem Blue Roses was inspired after the recent school shooting in Uvalde Texas. Terrible tragedies like this have become an all too often occurrence in the United States. As a parent I am concerned that we are failing our children. It is our responsibility to secure their safe passage to adulthood. we must do better.

Albinism is a rare genetic condition that reduces the production of melanin in those affected. In Africa, the condition is very misunderstood and Africans with albinism stand out from a mostly darker skinned population, leading to many stigmas due to the ignorance of why parents with dark skin would be able to give birth to a biological child with white skin, blond hair and light eyes. Many of these white babies are killed at birth which is why in some African populations they are rarely seen. This model is a beautiful African woman with albinism from Ethiopia. Many Ethiopians have often told us that they have never seen a person with albinism from their community and that they don’t exist. Well, this model proves them wrong. The question should be, where is the rest of the albinism Ethiopian community? Have you ever met a Ethiopian with albinism?
