I made the decision to leave the offas d**e path at Hay on Wye. It was a good few days but I just wasn’t feeling up for the long haul, I find it hard sometimes solo walking especially 2 week walks like this. I’m now considering some day hikes somewhere soon as well as a summer camp somewhere. This photo was taken on the black mountains the other day.

Though Pen y fan is a great place to try a wild camp due to the ease of path up its not ideal if you want total solitude with many people on night hikes throughout the night and eager beaver sunrise hikers. I’ll be putting together a video of this little trip on my YouTube channel. It was the first test of my Hilleberg Black Label Soulo not much of a test, winds gusted at about 27mph and even though these winds were fairly light I could tell it was like a piece of iron and I look forward to testing it in harsher condition’s although we’re on the brink of summer so I may just use my MSR!

Made it to Invermoriston. Climbed out of Fort Augustus and took the picturesque high route with views to the mountains and over the vast Loch.

I have arrived at Fort Augustus at the southern end of Loch Ness. Tomorrow and for the rest of the walk I’ll climb up high and have fantastic views over Loch Ness and towards the mountains to the north

The start of The Great Glen Way. Tomorrow will be a 21 mile day, by Monday afternoon I will reach Loch Ness.

In September 2020 I attempted to walk the Great Glen Way. Unfortunately I somehow got my feet very wet and got very painful blisters which ended my walk at Fort Augustus.

In a few weeks time I will be having another go! Looking forward to returning to Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 once more.

I was watching back these videos of that attempt.

I used the collapsible kettle on the West Highland Way last month. I normally use the brukit which is excellent but wanted to minimise weight and space in my pack.

I also used it when I camped on the summit of Pen Yr Ole Wen in the Ogwen Valley Snowdonia. The great thing about it is it collapses into a disc and slots into your pack.

The final wild camping spot on the West Highland Way.

This area was extremely remote and not far from that famous James Bond scene in Skyfall. I was not alone, it’s a popular spot for wild camping and with the pub 100 metres away I met a lot of other west highland way backpackers on this night.

Deer 🦌 were everywhere the views of this remote area of the Scottish highlands is extremely rugged and wild.

I got there very late but made the sunset. A truly magical night on the highest mountain in southern Britain.

Wales is a special place. I’ve done the Pen y Fan horseshoe circuit many times and last night I solo wild camped in freezing temperatures. I tested out my new Access 1 4 season tent.

I was treated to a decent sunset as the temperature plummeted. I camera batteries got so cold I couldn’t film in the night or morning but I got plenty of drone footage.
