Sometimes our emotions are obvious. When we’re going through something (e.g. heartbreak, disappointment, anger… even a crush!), it can be all we focus on for a while. We can overthink, wondering why, if only, what if, etc. Other times, we need a little encouragement to open up. We know it would be good to face it and bring it to God, but it seems easier to ignore it for one more day…

When we get like this, isn’t it comforting to remember these words from David:

🌸 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. (Psalm 139: 7-10)

So just a gentle reminder: whatever is happening, whatever happens, God is there. And God is for us! He is our redeemer, confidante, true love—and so much more. We can rely on him fully, whatever the season. May we praise the Lord!

Our new collab with The Salvation Army! This week, let’s talk about the importance of self-care and how we can seek God for healing when facing compassion fatigue, burnout, vicarious trauma, and more.

Plus a little life update with reflections after a funeral, the joys of realizing you’ve been shaped by God (and that he’s now shaping other areas), and the importance of obedience over ambition.

New episode 🌸 with You Are You podcast, the hope has always been that the episodes encourage you to embrace your God-given design and encourage you to pursue your God-given calling.

As I’ve journeyed with God, he’s also shown me how this can be difficult to do when we have unhealed emotional hurts—and how him healing me of emotional hurts truly equipped me to surrender to him and pursue him more wholeheartedly. And it’s a journey! We need God’s healing daily.

So I started , a startup that helps Millennial and Gen Z women seek God for emotional health and healing. Follow our page for updates and explore our courses at pinkandnew.thinkific.com 🩷

I’ve released a weekly newsletter since February and I think the format will be familiar to You Are You podcast listeners. And so I’ll be releasing the newsletter as podcast episodes as well—and hope they encourage you to go all in with God. Any questions? Reach out! Hope you enjoy the new format and look forward to journeying with you this season. 🙏

Is there something weighing on your heart? This week, advice on how to “enlighten” the eyes of our heart (as per Paul) so we are reminded of who and whose we are, and how to act as God’s daughters.

If you’re into raw chats, this episode is for you. As I was editing/re-listening, I wondered whether I should re-record this. In the days since, God has helped me process some stuff, so I might ‘sigh’ less if I re-recorded it in some sections lol but perhaps more polish will come in the next episode. This one is an honest look at a Christian woman/founder/creative/leader who is doing her best to obey God where she is while pushing back against peer pressure, societal standards, etc. and looking to God. And is encouraged that he is teaching her, helping her process new things, and answering prayers daily! Hope you can relate to it and that we keep encouraging each other to pursue the Lord today as we are trusting that that’s all God requires and he’s more than capable of handling the rest. Love you, friends.

Ever wanted to put off obeying your God-given calling until your circumstances are a little better? Or put off enjoying your God-given design until you’ve made a little bit more progress? A pep talk episode with honest real life examples of how *now* is the time to obey God. Things will never be perfect and even when they *feel* close to perfect we always need God. So new year, new season, new lifestyle, new habits. It feels good to keep changing and evolving. And I’m sure God will show me other areas that aren’t in order yet because he works in beautiful layers, amen? May we not be afraid of his revelations and pruning. A more pruned and fruitful life awaits us whenever we surrender to him.
Thank you for being here. If you’re here, I bet you are a glass half full, want the best of what God has for you, and are willing to surrender and seek God to get his best and to understand him better and better.
That is the coolest thing. That is why we’re friends. 🙂
And I hope that I’ll be able to build more ways where we can really connect about this. I’m praying about this, what God might do, but one step at a time. We can’t do everything at once, amen? But I just want to say that I am definitely praying about this and would love to have .yay.project and be accounts where it’s not a one way broadcast but we really know each other and do life together from all corners of the world.

29/01/2024

Dear God,

Thank you for a new year! We are full of hope and excitement, imagining the wonderful things you have in store!

As you know, we’re human and sometimes it seems we can get easily discouraged. But I pray this is a year that we double down on you and experience you like never before.

We know you can answer prayers, move mountains into the sea, pour out resources from your heavenly storehouses and so much more — all for your glory.

Strengthen us, protect us, and give us practical tips on how we can rejoice always and strategically invest what you’ve entrusted to us. We want to see your kingdom come. Use us to shine your light and be your hands and feet in our communities.

May your love be so active in our hearts that we pour it out effortlessly wherever we go. We love you and want more of you.

Amen.

Pursuing God’s call on our lives isn’t easy. Sure there will be days that seem so easy and smooth. But there’s bound to be warfare. The enemy is always looking to trip us up and devour us (1 Peter 5:8). But God gave us his Spirit and greater is he than that which is in the world (1 John 4:4). When we struggle with perfectionism or self doubt, let’s double down on the Lord. Things may or may not change after one prayer session. It might take a period of pressing in. But there is literally no better place to be than in humble pursuit of the Lord, amen?

This verse is so clear, right? God is not pleased when we’re prideful, selfish, or self centred. If we start to notice ourselves doing this, may we check ourselves and stop. And pray for his help and rely on his Holy Spirit over our willpower to stop. I pray we are also part of godly friendships where the goal is to point each other towards God and his promises — and cheer each other on towards pursuing him and the call he’s placed on our lives.

Have you ever heard the Martin Luther quote, “I have so much to do that I shall have to spend the first three hours in prayer”?

This is the attitude that I want to have, namely because I’ve tried it the other way in past seasons and it just doesn’t work. God is supernatural. His ways and timing are beyond our human comprehension. Wanting to do his work better by spending less time with him, in his word, in worshipping him just makes no sense.

For the one who feels like God answers prayers… but usually not in the way they’ve prayed for specifically… I get it.

In the past, God has more than exceeded my expectations but sometimes when I prayed I’d take on an attitude of like “I’m praying specifically but I feel like God never gives me what I ask for…” Not in a bad way, just what I felt was true. Even if God answered in a different way, I understood the blessing of being able to seek him, grow in relationship with him, and trust in his answer whatever it was.

But in this season, I think God is changing things up. He is answering prayers that I prayed years ago very *specifically.* And it’s been such an encouragement to keep *praying specifically* while trusting in God’s ways, timing, and love. If you’re wanting to be encouraged in this area, check out the latest pod.

04/01/2024

Life anxieties are normal as are the temptations to get distracted by worldly things. But Jesus’s teaching is to not let them weigh us down — to not get distracted by the wrong things and wrong thinking. When we notice this is happening, we can shake it off. As Paul teaches in Hebrews 12:1

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,

It’s not always easy. Sometimes it feels like we just want what we want. But chasing after the wrong things will never bring satisfaction. Imagine the growth that comes with allowing God to speak new dreams, goals, ideas into us and empowering us to pursue that.

When we are emotionally upset, it can take some time to fully heal. But may we go to our Healer, amen? God has what’s best for us. Guaranteed. It’s OK to feel life’s pressures but we can’t let them weigh us down. Blessed are we to be able to cast our cares on the Lord.

My season in Taipei was incredibly sweet. I didn’t do everything perfectly and have sensed God speaking to me about some things to deal with before moving onto the next season. But I feel God is proud of my best and that when I was feeling life anxieties, I brought them to him and asked for his help.

There were so many things I wanted, so many doors I wanted him to open, that just hadn’t yet when I moved back in August. And in the months since, I have had incredible opportunities and long-awaited answered prayers, and I am so excited for the future! I’ve also had doors close that I thought God might open, things that I thought could also have been great for my future. So when the open doors came, I rejoiced, gave thanks and worshipped. But when doors closed, I also sat with God in my disappointment and asked for his perspective.

26/12/2023

With the closed door, I wondered if I’d made a mistake or hadn’t shown enough devotion in the interview process. That if I’d done this or said that or prepared more in advance, maybe the door would have opened? Especially since in this situation, I was on the fence about applying but felt the Holy Spirit’s nudge to do so. And it was such a prestigious and high-pressure thing — so if it wasn’t for me, why did God want me to go through the whole process, to even make it as a finalist and interview for it… but not get it? As I lay there, I felt God say he’s proud of me. That I will learn from this. That it’s OK to set boundaries. And that this whole process brought a lot of exposure — I met a lot of people and was exposed to new ideas and ways of doing things, and that I have no idea what he still might do.

To believing God has more, amen?

17/12/2023

During covid, I went through a period of burnout for various reasons, but one was because I didn’t have strong boundaries when it came to work hours. My team was in the UK, and I was largely working with people more senior. So when I was invited to but also excused from meetings due to the time zone, I’d try and go anyway because I wanted to learn. But saying yes to 11pm meetings after working a whole day eventually takes a toll. Overcoming burnout took a long time — maybe a year. And now, I’m grateful what God has taught me about boundaries and godly rest (may we remember that even God rested on the seventh day!) because entrepreneurship [slash insert your God-given dream here] is definitely a path where people can feel pressured to work the hardest, fastest, and take no breaks.

15/12/2023

The day before I read Luke 21, I was thinking a lot about spiritual selfcare because I was feeling quite dry. I love my life the most when I am so close to Jesus, spending so much literal time with him reading, praying, talking, etc. that I don’t even think much about tv shows, worldly pressures, etc. I know following my Savior’s way is best, and being in his presence makes me feel super watered and nourished. But sometimes we find ourselves in periods or seasons (that we know won’t last forever) where we are really busy and eventually can’t help but feel dry.

Going into November, I knew it was going to be a busy one and I was a little worried about burnout. But I also knew that God had opened some precious doors and felt with him I could handle it.

13/12/2023

Ready to shut your laptop and get some rest this Christmas season? Have you had a super busy fall and ready for some fun? Before we jump into celebrating, let’s spend some time praying over how to end this year well and prepare for 2024.

In this episode, we’ll dig into Luke 21’s “The Destruction of the Temple and Signs of the End Times”. Let’s talk about getting on God’s ‘spa’ table for some treatments (including what this looks like for me after a busy month in startup world and ahead of a new move), how to handle the anxieties of life (via recent testimonies of open and closed doors), and a pep talk about preparing for Jesus’s return (how to think about life today in light of eternity).

Love you, friends! God is still doing so much. Let’s continue to seek him as we celebrate his faithfulness in 2023 and look forward to a new year.

19/10/2023

When did I start getting interested in labels? I think it grew once I started uni. It was so refreshing to be in a residence full of people who didn’t know your past. They saw you as you were in the present, without any baggage. But it was also intimidating if you didn’t know who you were or who you wanted to be. My solution? I joined a sorority. Then I became an AOII. I became the VP of Standards and Education. I wore the letters and went to convention and leadership training academies. I wanted this worldly label and this association with polished, successful, leader-type women because I wanted it to become my identity.

You probably know what I’m going to say, though. That while these desires aren’t bad, since they weren’t rooted in seeking God at all, my satisfaction with the sorority label was short lived. Once I graduated, I donated all AOII clothing, moved half-way across the world to Singapore and my next reinvention, so to speak, began. I loved being an expat. That felt so glamorous, making it in a super cool new city. I wanted to be a writer, to be associated with creatives, to be super successful. And while this did happen to a degree, again without having it be rooted in God, I was always chasing a new label. Nothing was ever good enough. I found it hard to live in the present because I felt like I had to be more.

I want to say “I can’t even” with how much God has come through for me lately. But let’s flip that: “I absolutely can believe God has come through for me so much because that’s his character.” He is so good. And I say this because I think in some seasons, I’ve been a little mopey. So frustrated that I’m still waiting on God to come through on one or two things. But now I really want to live with joy because in every season he is God pouring out his love on us.

Relating to this in this season? Come join the pod & let’s have a chat 🤗

In John Bevere’s book Driven by Eternity, he reminds us that if God has called us to be a pastor, than we shouldn’t be an accountant and vice versa.

On Judgment Day, we’re not to give an account of how well we did our own vision but God’s.

Workplace success doesn’t mean working the highest paying job for the most prestigious organization possible. It’s doing the job God is saying to do.

God has called some people to worldly positions of power, but that shouldn't cause pride or thoughts that, you know, that makes them better or more blessed than anyone else. God has a plan for every child and there are needs at every level of society.

May we remember Paul’s story.

His Pharisee friends must have thought him crazy to give up all that status to be a travelling preacher but did he or did he not write most of the New Testament with a legacy that God is using to impact so many today??

This is for all my ambitious, go-getter Christian girlies. It’s good to pursue our God-given dreams — this is what God wants, and we can have such fun doing it. But we’ll get ourselves into trouble if we idolize our accomplishments or blessings. How can we hold our treasures lightly? How does living as God’s daughter first affect our lifestyle? How can we really be sure waiting on God will result in the best version of success? This episode is full of joyful testimonies with the goal of reminding us that our great God answers prayers all the time and he really does more than we could ask or imagine.
