SOKOTO ON FIRE:

Currently happening is an ongoing riot in Sokoto with miscreants demanding for the Sultanate council to retract its condemnation of the killing of Deborah.

- The protesters are also demanding for the release of the arrested suspect Nigerian police accused for engineering the mob

This is following a wide Friday sermons by some Islamic scholars who tactically endorse the mob and demand for the release of those arrested by Nigerian police.

A catholic church was burnt, shops and properties destroyed in a state ravaged with insecurity and unemployment but yet they are willing to destroy everything.

How is this not mental illness?

Nb: This is what you get when you encourage lawlessness, anyone who think he will ‘emotionally’ encourage lawleness without wisdom and contradictorily pray for peace at the same time - the person should be awarded the joker of the century.

I STRONGLY CONDEMN THE RESORT TO SELF-HELP BY THE MOB IN SOKOTO SAYS THE PRESIDENT.

I strongly condemn the resort to self-help by the mob in Sokoto, resulting in violence, destruction and in the very tragic killing of Deborah Samuel, following an allegation that she had blasphemed Muhammad (SAW), the Prophet of Islam.

The news of the killing of the young lady by fellow students is a matter of great concern, and there must be an impartial and extensive probe into all that happened before and during the incident.

Indeed, Muslims all over the world demand respect for the Holy Prophets, including Isah (Alaihissalaam, Jesus Christ) and Muhammad (SAW), but where transgressions occur, as alleged to be the case in this instance, the law does not allow anyone to take matters into their own hands.

Also, religious leaders preach that it is not for the believer to judge the actions of another person. The constituted authority must be allowed to deal with such matters when they arise.

No person has the right to take the law in his or her own hands in this country. Violence has never and will never solve any problem.

I commend the immediate response to the incident by the Sokoto State Government, and urge religious and community leaders to call the attention of citizens to the need to exercise the right to freedom of speech responsibly.

At this time we must emphasize the news for tempered comments by the media, and calm among the general population, while investigation is ongoing to find out the remote and immediate causes of the incident.

The Ministries of Information and Culture, Police Affairs, and Communications and Digital Economy have been directed to work with GSM providers and Tech companies to help contain the spread of false and inflammatory information through social media.

Once again, my deepest condolences to the family of the deceased student, Deborah Samuel.

NIGERIAN ACTOR GBENGA RICHARDS IS DEAD

Veteran Nigerian actor Gbenga Richards is dead. According to reports, he died on May 12, 2022. This is coming after years of suffering from diabetes and related ailments.

Gbenga was very popular on our screens back in the 90s and early 2000s. However, his enviable career was cut short due to his sickness.

In 2021, funds were solicited for him to help carry out a surgery.

The public somehow came to his rescue to raise the money.

Comic actor, Ime Bishop Umoh, also known as Okon, and Emmanuel Ehumadu, popularly known as Labista, took to social media to seek financial assistance for him at that time

Richards’ first appearance as an actor was to represent Nigeria with Hubert Ogunde at the Second World Black and African Festival of African Culture (FESTAC) in 1977.

He also featured in blockbuster movies like ‘Sango’, ‘Mirror in the Sun’, ‘Betrayal by Love’, ‘Fighting Machine’ and a host of others.

May his soul rest in perfect peace!

BREAKING: Akpabio Resigns As Minister, Says ‘I’m Still In The Presidential Race’

A leading Presidential Aspirant of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and Minister, Niger Delta Affairs Ministry, Senator Godswill Akpabio has refuted news stories making the round about his withdrawal from the presidential race.

Senator Akpabio debunked the ‘paid news’ in a statement, titled “Who Is Afraid of Akpabio”, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Jackson Udom, and made available to REPORTERS on Wednesday evening.

The statement reads: “Our attention has been drawn to mischievously written news stories making the rounds by paid agents of some politicians, that the leading presidential aspirant, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has purportedly withdrawn from the presidential race. This is a joke carried too far.

“This is certainly the handiwork of those who are scared of contesting against Senator Godswill Akpabio.

“Senator Akpabio has resigned his appointment as Minister, Niger Delta Affairs Ministry and will soon submit his nomination form at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, in line with his party’s guidelines. “For those behind these lies and falsehood, we advise that they should learn to live with the reality, that Senator Akpabio is fully in the race, not only for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket but to emerge the next democratically elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

REPORTERS earlier reported that President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered all members of his cabinet and appointees vying for electoral offices to resign on or before May 16, 2022.

The order came at Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by the President at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja
