Feature | Experiencing the Best of the Bunch

The field trip, in my opinion, is the most fun time in my life, even though some are better than others. The zipline and animal feeding are my favorites.

I was really excited for the zipline and I wasn't scared at all! It was really good. Animal feeding was also really fun. It was funny and fun to throw food to the chicks, chickens, and ducks. I never thought that simply feeding an animal could be so much fun. The baby chicks were really cute.

If I had to choose between the two, I would pick the zipline.

News | A Joyous Field Trip for Bereans

On November 10, Bereans finally had their much-anticipated field trip! They were excited to spend the day with their classmates, parents, guardians, and teachers.

The day started with a delicious breakfast, followed by a fun activity where students learned to make towels into different shapes, such as swans and flower baskets. With the help of their tour guides, students were able to create their own unique designs.

Next, students visited the Santa Claus Museum, where they saw statues of Saint Nicholas and other figures. They also enjoyed the Enchanted Garden, which featured colorful handmade flowers and silly statues of chipmunks and other familiar characters.

For those who love adrenaline rushes, zip-lining was the next activity. Students also had fun playing memory games, kayaking, and other games that their tour guides picked out for them.

As the day progressed, students ended it with a swim in the pool where they splashed around and talked about how much they enjoyed the field trip.

More than just a collection of events, this field trip was a joyous day for Bereans, especially since it had been so long since their last one. In that one day, they realized how they could bond with their classmates and guardians by spending time together. This will truly be a memorable day for all Bereans.

Feature | A Fun and Educational United Nations Event

On October 27, 2023, Berea Arts and Sciences High School held its annual United Nations Event. All students who participated wore national costumes of different UN member countries. I wore a samurai costume from Japan.

We began the event with a Parade of Nations, starting from the school grounds and winding through the surrounding streets before returning to Berea.

After the parade, we gathered in the G.S.M.P. Hall, where awards were given for the best costumes. My classmate Tristan Jacob De Leon, who wore the national costume of Egypt, was crowned Mr. United Nations 2023 for the intermediate level. Cassandra Allaine Delas Armas, another classmate who represented Peru, was a runner-up. I was also a candidate, along with Maggie Kim Margaret Jose, who wore a Japanese kimono.

Grades 7 to 12 were grouped together to represent a single country: Grade 7 represented Greece, Grade 8 represented Egypt, Grade 9 represented Mexico, Grade 10 represented China, Grade 11 represented Brazil, and Grade 12 represented New Zealand. Other activities included a poster-making contest, a Philippine history quiz bee, and an international food cook-off.

This event was so much fun! I hope that next year's United Nations Event will be even more enjoyable.

Feature | My Fun and Exciting UN Experience

My experience at the United Nations celebration in our school last October 27 was amazing! I loved the parade and the Mr. and Ms. United Nations pageant. I was so excited when my friends, Cassie and Tristan, won!

I also had a great time at the quiz bee. I was a little nervous at first, but my teammates, Karl from Grade 6 and Shire from Grade 5, were really supportive. We worked together to answer the questions carefully, and we ended up winning first place! My friend Sonja Collado and her team also won second place in the quiz bee.

After the quiz bee, Sonja, Casey Pinto, and I went to eat recess. We shared fries and matcha milk tea, which Sonja bought from a Grade 5 student, Redrielle. Then we went to Miss Lina to buy stickers. I bought two, and I'm not sure how many Sonja bought, but I love Miss Lina's stickers!

Finally, I bought some ice cream for Sonja and me. We finished eating and decided to go home because we were tired. Overall, I had a really fun and exciting day at the UN event!

News | Philippine History Quiz Bee

The Berea Arts and Sciences High School celebrated the 78th United Nations on October 27, 2023. You can tell by all the cheering that our fellow Bereans were very excited! The primary and intermediate grade levels had several different activities. One of them is the Philippine History Quiz Bee, which was hosted by Sir Cris Vernon. In the stated event, there are three groups for each of the houses: Blue Hydra and Red Titan.

The quiz bee started off with five easy, multiple-choice questions for one point each. After the first round, the leading team was Group 1 of Blue Hydra. Next up were the 5 moderate questions, true or false, for 2 points each. After that round, Group 2 of Blue Hydra was leading. The last round was hard where there were no choices for 3 points each, so some of the kids were nervous. After that, Group 3 of Red Titan had 25 points in last place, and Groups 1 and 2 of Red Titan had a tie of 27 points, so there was
a tiebreaker. It was very nerve-racking, for they were about to find out who was the winner of the Philippine History Quiz Bee.

Finally, it was time for the announcement of which group won the Philippine History Quiz Bee. And it was Group 1 of Red Titan! The students said they were pretty nervous but also excited. All of the students should be proud of themselves for participating and doing their best in the event.

News | Little Mister and Miss United Nations
October 27, 2023

Berea Arts and Sciences High School celebrated the United Nations event with many fun and exciting events like Mister and Miss United Nations. This was the second event of the day and happened after the parade. Each elementary adviser chose two candidates from their class.

The hosts, Sir Cris and Sir Kyle, introduced themselves and the judges, Sir Guike, Sir Shem, Miss Lina, and Miss Jo. As they explained the criteria, the chosen students got ready to go on stage.

Starting with the primary level, the students started walking up on stage and posing, each one showing off their wonderful costumes. The parents and students cheered loudly and supportively. The same was done with the intermediate level, with each student presenting their traditional costumes. Speaking of costumes, there were a variety of them—Japan, Peru, Egypt, Korea, Greece, India, the UK, and many more!

After the students got off the stage, the judges decided the winners. In the meantime, the twins, BJ and Abby, from 10th grade sang us a wonderful song.

Afterwards, the awarding was led by Sir Guike and Miss Lina. Starting with the primary level, the second runners up were Felicia Arco and Isaiah Garcia from Grade 2! The first runners up were Clarizsa Sy from Grade 3 and Iñigo dela Paz from Grade 1. And finally, the Mister and Miss UN for the primary level were Tyrone Hermoso as Mr. Philippines from Grade 2 and Madison Paorco as Ms. South Korea from Grade 3! Everyone cheered loudly for all the winners, and the champions were awarded with a sash and a crown.
The intermediate level followed, with the second runners up being Cassandra delas Armas from Grade 4 and Seth Mamaril from Grade 5. The first runners up were Chet Mahinay and Zarek Delgado both from Grade 5. Mister and Miss UN of the 2023 intermediate level were Tristan de Leon as Mr. Egypt from Grade 4 and Euphemia Bernardo as Ms. Japan from Grade 6!

The kids did well, and all of them rocked their amazing costumes! Everyone applauded and cheered supportively. The succeeding events were fun, and Mister and Miss UN was a great start to this celebration!

Jaden studied at Little Me Academy Homeschool before coming to Berea. After four years of online classes, this is his first year of face-to-face classes. His favorite subjects are math, science, Filipino, values, and English. He enjoys studying because he wants to meet someone special.

Sophia studied at National Learning Academy before coming to Berea. She felt both amazed and shy on her first day of class. Her favorite subjects are araling panlipunan, arts, and music. She enjoys studying with her classmates.

Our new teachers are Sir Joshua Mondido, Sir Wencent Edgar Madera, Miss Erica Jaen Villarosa, and Sir Karl Chester Perdido.

Sir Joshua taught at Manggahan High School during his practice teaching. He recently graduated from Rizal Technological University (RTU). He said his first day of teaching at Berea went well. He will prepare lesson plans and learning materials for the next quarter.

Another fresh graduate from RTU is Sir Wencent who taught at Andres Bonifacio Integrated School during his practice teaching. He said he enjoyed his first day of school, despite the stress. He will prepare engaging and fun activities in science class for the next quarter.

FEATURE | Bereans Prepare for First Quarter Exams

The first quarter of Berea's SY 2023-2024 is nearing an end, leaving Bereans both excited and anxious for the upcoming quarter exams. Students have been busy preparing for the exams, but how did everyone fare in the first quarter?

Giya and I from Junior Anvil decided to interview several teachers in Grades 1 and 6. We began with Sir Jericho, the adviser and Filipino teacher of Grade 1. We asked him who the best student was, but he was unsure. Next, we asked Sir Cris who the best student in Grade 6 Araling Panlipunan was during the first quarter. He said that it was Karl. Finally, we asked Sir Jubanie, the math teacher for Grades 1 and 6, who the currently best student in math was. He stated that Rapha from Grade 1 was currently best in math, while in Grade 6, he was debating whether it was Jacob P. or Azi M. These responses do not mean that the rest of the students are not as smart, but simply that they have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Next, we decided to interview several students from Grades 1 and 6 about their first quarter experience. "My first quarter was good," said a student from Grade 6. Jacob P., another sixth grader, said that it was fine and that he was currently busy preparing for the quarter exams. Another student said that it was okay—not too hard, not too easy. A number of students in Grade 1 said that they enjoyed their first quarter. We can say that the first quarter was quite enjoyable.

Even though all the students had different opinions, it's safe to say that the first quarter of Berea was pretty good. Many students performed well, and we're sure they all gave their very best. Many outdid themselves, and many also improved. Many events this quarter, like Buwan ng Wika, Nutrition Month, and more, make us all wonder about what the future holds.

Have a wonderful short break, Bereans!

NEWS | Buwan ng Wika’s Poetry Writing Contest Shines at Berea Arts and Sciences High School

This year’s Buwan ng Wika celebration at Berea Arts and Sciences High School featured exciting contests, including Pagsasatao (Character Parade), Poster-Slogan Making, Pagbasa ng Tula (Poetry Reading), and Pagsulat ng Tula (Poetry Writing). The Pagsulat ng Tula contest kicked off at 8 am right in the Grade 12 classroom, supervised by Sir Joshua Mondido.

In the end, the 3rd place award went to Casey Pinto (Grade 4), the 2nd place was claimed by Scarlet Lim (Grade 4), and the coveted 1st place title was awarded to Shire Ramirez (Grade 5) from the Red Titans. {The winning poems are featured below.) Shire expressed her excitement, saying in Filipino, “I feel great for winning in the Buwan ng Wika for the first time. I am happy because I worked hard to make that poem. At first, I was nervous, but I believed in myself that I can do it.”

The winners of the other contests shared Shire’s joy, as their cheers and whoops echoed through the event. Even though the contest had an hour time limit, most participants finished their poems within just 40 minutes.

Congratulations to all the dedicated participants of the Buwan ng Wika contests. Your hard work and talent truly shone at this event!

FEATURE | My Fun Day during the Buwan ng Wika Celebration

On Friday, September 28, 2023, we celebrated Buwan ng Wika at school. We all wore traditional Filipino clothing, such as the barong for boys and the baro’t saya for girls.

When everyone arrived, the contests began. I joined the Poster and Slogan contest, but there were other contests too, such as Pagbigkas ng Tula, Pagsusulat ng Tula, and Pagsasatao.

After the contests, we went to the G.S.M.P. music and arts hall to watch a performance by Deimos and Phobos. The hosts were Sir Joshua and Miss Dani. They announced a 15-minute break so we could eat our recess. After recess, we watched the rest of the show.
During the show, Deimos and Phobos showed off some of the costumes from the Pagsasatao contest. Some of my classmates had joined the Pagsasatao contest, so it was fun to see their costumes on stage.

Finally, it was time to announce the winners of the contests. In the Poster and Slogan contest that I joined, Sofia Ysabelle Medina of Grade 3 won first place, Karl Elbert Gargantilla from Grade 6 won second place, and Clarizsa Allyn Sy from Grade 3 won third place. (Photos of winners are below)

I didn't win the contest, but I had a lot of fun anyway. I'm looking forward to participating in the Buwan ng Wika celebrations again next year.

NEWS | Buwan ng Wika at Berea - Deklamasyon

On September 23, 2023, Berea celebrated Buwan ng Wika. Students who had been practicing and anticipating this day for weeks finally had their chance to shine.

Many events were held for the grade school, including Poster-Slogan Contest, Deklamasyon, and Pagsulat at Pagbigkas ng Tula. Two talented Grade 6 students, Chaziel "Azi" Allan Montaña of the Blue Hydras and Giya Isabel Asido of the Red Titans, participated in a fierce but memorable Deklamasyon competition.

Giya performed "Ang Batang Pulubi," while Azi performed "Ako Ay si Magiting." Both students gave delightful performances, but in the end, Giya was awarded first place.

Despite being rivals, the two students ended the day with big smiles on their faces, cherishing the experience of celebrating Buwan ng Wika.

NEWS | Berea Celebrates Nutrition Month

On August 23, 2023, after a long wait due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Berea grade schoolers finally enjoyed the fun games for the Nutrition Month celebration. Hosted by two wonderful students, Ate Mau and Ate MJ, and facilitated by the very energetic Kuya Nico and Kuya Michael, all high school students, the ball started rolling with the activities prepared for the two teams in the elementary department: Red Titans and Blue Hydras.

The 1st game was called Draw It. Each team picked an artist who tried to draw what their teammates described. Round 1 and 2 put the game on a tie. During rounds 3 and 4, the Blue Hydras guessed faster, giving them 2 points. As expected, the Blue Hydras won!

The 2nd game was Pinoy Henyo. It was participated by four players from each team where there were two guessers and two players who would give clues by answering yes, no or maybe to the guessers guesses. The 1st and 4th rounds gave the Blue Hydras two points, but the Red Titans won the 2nd and 3rd rounds! In the final round, both teams were struggling! With a minute left, Blue Hydras won the game!

The 3rd game, Relay Race! This included two games, Calamansi Pass and Mixed Veggies! Calamansi Pass required a player to put a calamansi on a spoon in their armpit. Players had to pass the calamansi without dropping it. The Calamansi Pass was very competitive, both teams always dropping the beloved fruit. But at last, the Red Titans had more calamansi! They won the 1st Relay Race game. For Mixed Veggies, each team ran to a cup with mixed veggies. They have to arrange carrots,
peas, and corn according to the instructions of the game master, Ate Pat of Grade 9.
The winner of this game was the Blue Hydras!

The 4th game, Pass The Message, got the Grade 1 to 3 pupils whispering the given message up to the last person in the line. The most accurate message that reached the last person wins a round. After many rounds, the Red Titans won the game!

The day ended with the Blue Hydras as the overall winner of the grade school games. Although it was tiring, everyone had fun! Congratulations to everyone!
