Raven loves that they are a system – “A system is a name for a collection of alters after a person experiences childhood trauma. It often comes with the diagnosis of DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) or, as it was formerly known, Multiple Personality Disorder. Together as a system, we love that we are able to conquer just about any obstacle. We identify as q***r. Ana first came out when fae was 12 years old.

She has finally been able to put words to the experiences fae had and came out to a couple of close friends who then encouraged her to come to faer father Cam. Cam’s first words were, “Sh*t now I have to deal with pronouns.” Since then, Cam has been an incredible ally, learning and helping others learn with Ana on their podcast Transgenda. The system was diagnosed with DID in May 2022. We have since learned that there are a lot of different gender identities and sexualities but almost everyone we have met has been accepting of us, if not a little confused about what a system is and why it matters.

Coming out as q***r and trans has made us lose a lot of opportunities, whether that be jobs, housing, or education. Thankfully though, the community we are helping to build and develop has had our backs and has opened way more doors than were previously closed.

Any moment that we can our authentic selves is a beautiful moment. Our partner Andrei has really helped with creating those moments, so many moments being around them is beautiful and profound. The hardest time for us was when we were going through our worst mental health crisis. We were constantly depressed and struggling to fight against the urges of killing ourself. Thankfully we were able to ask for help from people around us who helped us think back to the good things in the world and all of the people we would affect if we went through with it.

Advice: We are only 22 years old. Our advice to anyone who is struggling with their gender, sexuality, plurality, chronic pain, what it might be, is to never give up. Life is an ever changing and evolving journey and there will be times where it is horrible and you might feel like there is no way it could get better, but it will always get better. We believe in you and you make the world a better place every day just by being here.”

Cam got to be part of a very cool local photo project!

Cam loves the journey of growth that he continues to travel on – “I love the kindness others find in me. I spent most of my life being labeled q***r but did not identify that way until 2 years ago when I came out as pansexual. A girlfriend in high school called me "Gay Straight Boy". I have had to overcome a lot of internalized homophobia and lean on the support of my daughter and friends to help understand that my sexuality is not either/or, but a continuum. I finally feel at home in who I am and who I love. I have lived my life as a white, cis, straight-seeming man with professional roles in our community. Instead of facing stigma, I have been able to mask myself to conform with the expectations of society. Now that I am working to be my most authentic and true self, I believe those difficulties are starting to occur and I just no longer care what other people think.

The most profound moment of my life was starting the Transgenda podcast with my daughter, Ana. We have always been very close and having the podcast as an outlet for us to connect felt natural. We had no idea how important our talks would become for others in their gender and sexuality journeys and I am so proud of Ana and what we have accomplished together.

To the younger people: Your experience is unique to you, but also you like others will learn, and grow, and work through the pain to be stronger and more you. Find your community, seek help when you need it, and concentrate on the things you are passionate about to feed your soul.”

Trigger Warning: Su***de.

We received a noteworthy comment from a transphobe regarding transgender teen death by su***de that needs to be addressed because it is being spread widely. The claim is that "Over 50% of trans teens commit su***de." The reality is that over 50% of teens have considered su***de, and the vast majority of those teens are in states that are passing transphobic, anti-gender affirming laws. The truth is, gender affirming services and trans protective laws save the lives of our youth, not increasing restrictions and certainly not "conversion therapy".

The alarmingly high rates of depression, anxiety and su***de attempts are spread across liberal and conservative regions

On Transgender Day of Remembrance, we remember those who have lost their lives because of transphobia. And once we have mourned, we fight back against anti-trans legislation, against racism, against gun violence, that increasingly threatens our lives and those that we love.
