The Oktava ML-52 is a really good sounding ribbon mic! Excellent frequency response. It's suited to strings and brass instruments giving a sparkling but never harsh overall sound and also gives a particularly pleasing smooth sound to vocals.

In order to have a successful show, not all the bands know that they have to send a technical rider to the promorer or to the audio service.

This shouldn' t be optional 'cause it's useful for the band and the audio service.

If you don't know how to wirte a technical rider, check out the complete guide on my website: https://bit.ly/3iW65gG

Despite its shape, the KMS 104 plus is a condenser microphone which can stand enormous sound pressure levels of up to 150 dB without clipping. Compared to dynamic microphones, this has a superior transient response resulting in a more immediate and emotional vocal sound: effortless intelligibility, without the usual EQ boosts. It also has a fixed low cut filter which compensates for the proximity effect and add an emphasis to the lower register (100-150 Hz), thus lending more “weight” and “warmth”.

One of your best plugin, is your room. The relationship between the height, length and depth of a room is the most important thing to consider when designing one. There are a few room ratios that you can start designing a room from and many of these relationships fall into the so-called "Bolt Area". The following images show the Bolt area and a table of favorable room dimensional ratios. To learn more, visit my blog: https://bit.ly/3g26NXP

Not all EQs are the same, we know that, but some of them hides some features that are not visible at first look!

This is the case of the two API 550 A & 550 B which was designed with a “proportional Q” circuitry, where resonance (Q) responds to gain.

That means the Q is widest at low gains and narrowest at high gains. If you compare these API EQs to a conventional EQ design with the same settings, you can easily hear what proportional Q does.

At low gains, the results are similar. At higher gains, the API EQs sound more “aggressive”, because of the narrower Q values.

Sometimes you can't mix into your studio. You need to find a good reference for your ears that helps you to translate the mix in the most transparent way as possible, anywhere. I chosen the DT 770 Pro headphones for this work.

PULTEC EQP-1A LOW END TRICK: In almost any commercial studio and many high-end home studios, you’ll find one or more Pultec EQs (The “Pul” is from “Pulse” and the “tec” from “Techniques”). Unlike other EQ types, one of the advantages of the Pultec EQs is that they feature separate boost and attenuation k***s on the low bands. At first, the “2-k***s technique” seems counterintuitive, because you’re boosting and cutting the same frequency simultaneously, but engineers discovered that the Boost and Cut parameters don’t have the exact same frequencies or filter shape. As a result, rather than one k**b offsetting the other, combining the two allows you to achieve settings that would be impossible with one k**b. Also, Pulse Techniques warned against it in the manual: "Do not attempt to boost and cut at the same frequency!" Alright, LET'S DO THAT! Download for free the RareSE by Analog Obsession, put it on the Kick/Bass/Acoustic Guitar/Mix Bus and set the Low Frequency k**b to 60 or 100 Hz and try to boost and cut simultaneously. You'll be surprised by the results!

I hope this guide will be helpful!

When I started to design my own studio, I found that there isn’t a complete guide on how to build it. There are either poor informations or too many on books and websites but not a single step-by-step guide on how to build it. So i decided to make a series of guides on how to build your own studio...
