Look what arrived today! I love BOTY season 😍 Congrats to ’s novel, “The Four Winds” for winning the 2021 Book of the Year. Love the BOTM BFF perks of getting to chose a 2021 BOTY Finalist! I went with “Malibu Rising”! Can’t wait to dig into a new-to-me author, Happy holidays and blue box special to all, and to all a good read!

If you have ever felt/are feeling that you don’t belong and you don’t make an impact on those around you, pick up this book.
You matter.
You are important.
You are loved.
“When are you going to get it through your thick little head that there is nothing you could do to make me stop loving you? … I know you. Everything else is noise and words. I know your heart” (p. 350-351). A beautiful coming-of-age book about a girl looking for belonging and finding her chosen family along the way. It doesn’t matter where you’re from or where you’re going, you’ll find the people who mean the most, will do the most, and will love the most. “We have people we get to keep, who won’t ever let us go. And that’s the most important part” (p. 353).

B-E-A-U-TIFUL book set in 1920s Paris. The whole story takes place over a 24-hour period and goes back and forth between 4 different people living in the city: who they are, where they come from, and what they’re searching for. Prose is 2 ⚰️ 4. Quick read that will suck you in with its historical setting and a few prolific literary figures peppered throughout a Parisian day. Recommended!

“A story is coming.
Your story is coming.
It is the whole purpose of your being. Being (t)here” (p. 2).

You know those books that are really heavy and dense you find yourself taking more time to read the chapters in order to allow yourself to feel the emotions the author intended to be felt? This is one of those books. The language used within this book is beautiful and lyrical. It’s a book I had to finish but also put away for a little while and reflect on what I read. It’s a story about a love that was not forbidden until someone said it was. It’s a story honoring those who were enslaved at the start of this country but a reminder that the people who were forced over here were, before, someone’s Queen and/or King, a child, a parent, a cousin, a lover. If you pick up this book, I encourage you to take your time with it. There are parts of this story that are not easy to read but we owe it to those whose names and stories are lost to history.
