I won't be gaming for a while but here goes my thoughts for the all-new Need for Speed Unbound before I put the controller down.

Unbound looks great even at the lowest preset and runs well on my aging hardware as well. Both the cars and the game world are highly detailed with almost zero popups even at higher speeds (Hi Forza Horizon).

Vehicle customizations goes up and beyond with the plethora of provided options. And with some provided bodykit ; one can make their car totally unrecognizable. Editable community wraps are back as well offering pretty colorful and simple ways to personalize. As for Unbound's highlight feature; I like the fancy graffiti style effects; but wished for an option to assign different effects for each individual car.

Police pursuits are not downright brutal compared to HEAT, so things are pretty easy at lower heat levels. However, at heat level 5, do look out for 4x4 units as they can do some serious damage.

In the meantime, there are some significant gameplay changes to vehicle handling and most importantly to the game economy that clearly takes the fun out of the way.

First, the live tuning options are available ONLY at the garage/ during free roaming and completely unavailable during racing. And by the time I mastered the simcade grip style racing settings, the simple tap to break settings (which can be turned off) ruined a good portion of my first few hours.

Rival racer AI is unforgiving so don’t bother even trying to come 1st in the early game races. Also since there is no rubber banding this time around, if you do make a mistake or crash into something, you have to restart the race from the start. And to make things worse, there are only a limited number of race restarts available (which also depends on the selected difficulty.) for both day and night cycles.

As for the game economy; it’s bad and grindy. You are kind of stuck with the car you pick up after the prologue section. And with the little money you make, you have to upgrade your car and save enough for the weekly qualifier as well. Things do get better after you unlock S-tier cars and you can win a couple of good cars every once in a while, for cheap but eh.

As for the story, there is nothing much to write about since it's a pretty simple storyline and the dialogue can be very cringy at times. And it’s completely separate from the online multiplayer which totally sucks, since you can’t import any of your campaign cars to play and show off to your friends.

So, to sum things up Need for Speed Unbound is three steps forward and one step backwards kind of a situation but definitely an improvement over the last few mediocre NFS releases. However, it does NOT deserve the steep $70 price tag at all so it's better to wait for couple of months for a proper price drop or simply get EA Pro Subscription for a month and enjoy it. 7/10

Assassin's Creed Valhalla may not be everyone's cup of coffee, but despite all the shortcomings, it was a good game for me in many ways. Excellent job supporting this for more than 2 years Ubisoft. Honestly can't wait for Mirage to come out next year. 🙌🏻

Just in case if anyone is having weird controller button remapping issues with Need for Speed Unbound, try the following methods to fix them.

1. Add both the main EA app and the main game exe to the steam game library by "add a non-steam game" option.
2. Configure your controller from the Steam Controller Settings page accordingly.
3. First run EA app from Steam, wait for it to open and properly load.
4. Then run the game from the Steam interface.
5. Enjoy!
