Here's a new tutorial on how to retarget animations from one character rig to another using the Retarget Manager in Unreal Engine 4. This is a simple technique that's useful if you're trying to transfer animations between characters with different rigs. You can use this for any skeleton such as Marketplace assets and Mixamo characters.

Today we're exploring a material editor trick called PerInstanceRandom to randomize material instances in Hierarchical Instanced Static Meshes. We revisit two scenes from our earlier tutorials and generated random wing flapping offsets for our flies, and random colors for our boxes. This will maintain the performance benefits of using instanced meshes, while allowing you to add variations to the materials to make the scene look more natural.

Today we're looking at spline mesh components and spline-driven hierarchical instanced static meshes to quickly lay down repetitive geometry. We also discuss the technical and performance trade-offs of each method.

Hi! We are Pending Kill, a 2 person indie game dev team. This is the first video of a YouTube channel we started, where we share our experiences, knowledge, and current progress on our games!

Our first video is on how to find a team; we wanted to share some insights on common issues when first forming the team, as well as during the middle of development. It's mostly geared towards people who aren't professional game devs (yet) and are thinking of approaching others for collaboration.

Our next video will be more technically focused, on Unreal Engine mechanics. We would love to hear your feedback on the video and what kinds of topics would be most interesting / helpful. Cheers!
