Today in History

After gaining Independence in 1960, Nigeria becomes a republic in 1963, with Nnamdi Azikiwe assuming the role of president. Two years later a federal election takes place, but many question the transparency of the vote and suggest fraud. Major General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi (pictured in the center) steps into the power vacuum, starting what would become over three decades of intermittent military rule.

Aba Women’s Riot was a period of unrest in colonial Nigeria over November 1929. The protests broke out when thousands of Igbo women from Bende District, Umuahia and other places traveled to the town of Olokoro to protest against the Warrant Chiefs, whom they accused of restricting the role of women in the government.

55-year old woman arrested for buying twins in Imo after faking pregnancy.

A 55-year-old woman identified as Mrs.Chinyere Ohanyere, popularly known as Madam Chichi has been arrested for allegedly buying a set of twins.

The native of Oguta Local Government Area of the state who allegedly pretended to have given birth to twins on September 3 at Irete in Owerri West LGA of Imo State, was arrested last Tuesday, at Graceland Estate in Owerri, Imo State capital after the police received a tip-off.

The lady was apprehended alongside her relative, Adaeze Ohanyere, who had been arrested before in a child trafficking case.

The children have been taken to an orphanage for proper care while the police are on the trail of the kids’ seller.

A source told Vanguard “The operatives of the command got a tip-off, stormed her house and arrested them. She claimed she gave birth to the twins on September 3 at Irete.

"But when she was subjected to medical examination, it was discovered that she wasn’t delivered of the twins. She bought the kids, a boy and a girl.”

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Michael Abattam who confirmed the incident, said the case has been referred to the Magistrate Court of Imo State where the accused is standing trial for alleged child trafficking.

23-Yr-Old Chef Jailed 28 Years For Killing Lawyer Inside Lagos Hotel

An Ikeja Special Offences Court on Tuesday sentenced a 23-year-old chef, Joshua Usulor, to 28 years imprisonment for killing a 34-year-old lawyer, Mrs Feyisayo Obot. The chef killed the lawyer on January 26, 2019, at the Citiheights Hotel, Opebi, Lagos State, where both of them lodged in different rooms.

Usulor murdered Obot, an Abuja-based mother of two, by slitting her throat while robbing her in her hotel room.
Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo sentenced Usulor after he approached the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) for a plea bargain agreement in which he would plead guilty to the crime.

The DPP had in the agreement approved a term of 21 years’ imprisonment which would begin from the date of Usulor’s remand.

However, during Tuesday’s proceedings, the judge rejected the proposed prison term, saying that it was too lenient.

The judge said she would exercise the power conferred on her by Section 75 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law to increase the prison term to 30 years.

She eventually reduced Usulor’s prison sentence to 28 years following plea for leniency by his counsel, Mr Spurgeon Ataene.

In the plea, Ataene told the court to temper justice with mercy.

He submitted that Usulor was remorseful, adding that he was a young man with a promising future.

While sentencing Usulor, Taiwo asked why he killed the lawyer.

“It was a mistake, I didn’t know what got into me,” he responded.

“Your mistake has cost someone her life,” the judge said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the prosecution, led by Mrs O.A. Bajulaiye-Bishi, had said that Usulor, a resident of Number 30, Fadiya Street, Ketu, Lagos, went into Obot’s hotel room to rob her in order to offset his outstanding hotel bills.

Obot, an employee of an Abuja-based non-governmental organisation – Save the Children – was in Lagos to write a project management examination.

She was killed on the day she was due to leave the hotel.

The prosecution was still presenting witnesses in the case when Usulor proposed a plea bargain agreement.

Prosecution witnesses who testified during the trial were – the hotel receptionist, Ms Lateefat Adebayo; the hotel’s Operations Manager, Mr Olabanji Ibitunde; brother of the deceased, Mr Ige Afolabi; and the Investigating Police Officer, Inspector John Babalola.

Usulor was arraigned on a count charge of murder contrary to Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos 2015.

: Moment Cross sucks Angel at a ‘sensitive part’

The bond between Angel and Cross seems to be waxing stronger by the day as the duo are always caught in one funny moment or the other.
This time, Angel who seems to be undergoing a mood swing was seen entertaining the company of Cross who tried, by all means, to see that he gets her back to her normal happy state.

Be it as it may, the lovebirds were sighted in a questionable position although what they did still remains unclear.

Cross could be seen fixing his face towards Angel’s stomach and cleavage area and some sucking sounds could be heard. Angel on her part, felt irritated by this which made her tell him to stop.

Heavyweight Boxing: Joshua heads to hospital to fix broken eye

Joshua suffered a devastating defeat Saturday night to challenger Oleksandr Usyk, sustaining a suspected broken eye socket aside from losing his world titles.

Anthony Joshua, fresh from being dethroned as world boxing heavyweight champion, is set to go to hospital to check a suspected broken eye socket.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn, who announced this moments after the loss to Oleksandr Usyk of Ukraine on Saturday in London, said also that his fighter was “devastated” by the defeat.

He however acknowledged that the Joshua camp had no reservations about the result, and the better fighter won the bout.

“Congratulations to Oleksandr Usyk. What a fighter. He put in a great performance and the better man won,” Hearn said.

“I had it reasonably close in the eighth and then Usyk ran away with it.”

Usyk dethroned Joshua in his own backyard with a stunning display to earn a unanimous points decision in front of a sell-out crowd at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The 34-year-old former undisputed cruiserweight world champion put on a masterclass to silence the vast majority of the 67,000 fans who packed into the huge arena.

Usyk, giving away height, weight and reach to the champion, proved too elusive for Joshua throughout an enthralling contest and landed the much cleaner shots.

He finished with a flurry in round 12 as he went in search of a knockout.

Joshua stayed upright but the decision was a formality as Usyk seized the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO belts with the three judges scoring it 117-112, 116-112, 115-113.

Joshua gave the crowd little to cheer and ran out of ideas against his southpaw opponent who was ahead throughout.

Former Olympic champion Usyk, contesting only his third professional heavyweight fight, follows in the footsteps of compatriots Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko.

‘Don’t leave me’ — Teary Tonto Dikeh begs estranged lover in leaked audio

Tonto Dikeh, the Nollywood actress, has been heard in a leaked audio recording begging Prince Kpokpogri, her estranged lover, not to quit their relationship.

The pair has been in the public eye in the past few days amid speculations that they have parted ways — less than three months after they made their affair public.

They also unfollowed each other on Instagram recently, further strengthening claims of their rumoured split.

But in the less nine-minute clip obtained by TheCable Lifestyle on Tuesday, Kpokpogri was heard saying he could no longer put up with the actress in the relationship.

“Why do you think walking away will not give more peace? No, you can’t give me peace. See let me tell you ehn, from day one, it was not even up to two weeks when we started having crises,” he said.

“Can’t you see it yourself, a relationship that is not up to three months, yet you see the crisis…It’s like you don’t know me, I am a very peaceful person, anything that will threaten my peace, I will just run away…

“I told you that right from day one that babe please oh, I’m a very peaceful person. Even as it is my now, my aunty will say we don’t have anybody here in Abuja. I’m the only family they have in Abuja.

“I cannot even bring my cousin to come and stay with me, because the next thing is they will come and tell you she is my girlfriend and the next thing, everywhere will be on fire.

“Please, I just want that peace so everyone around me can be happy. Where is Captain Nosa today with all the money? I don’t want to die young, anything that will break or destroy my peace, I don’t want it.”

Dikeh, however, appealed to the politician to rescind his decision amid tears. She also promised to “give him peace” if given a second chance.

“Please, how much more do I need to keep begging you to be with me. I am so exhausted, please. I can give you peace,” she pleaded.

But Kpokpogri insisted on quitting the relationship, saying the film star’s tears cannot reverse his decision.

“You don’t need to cry because you caused all these things, I told you right from day one. If I had not told you, that would have been a different thing, I told you,” he said.

'Don't leave me' -- Teary Tonto Dikeh begs estranged lover in leaked audio

CHEATING ALLEGATION AGAINST DIKEH

During the conversation, Kpokpogri had alleged that a man slept in the same room with the actress, citing a chat on Dikeh’s phone.

“A man came to you 2:30 am in the morning, he told you I’m at your door, there was no communication again till past 8 in the morning and you are asking me to think otherwise,” he said.

But Dikeh countered his claim, saying the unidentified man did not sleep in his room.

“If he slept in my room, will I be saying good morning by 8 o’clock. Would he be saying that if he slept in my room? I have told you the truth, I have told you my truth, nothing happened but if you want to do this your way…,” she said.

Not convinced, Kpokpogri had queried why the actress deleted the messages from her phone if she knew nothing transpired between her and the man.

“If you told me your truth, why did you delete your messages?” he had asked.

Responding, Dikeh said she cleared the messages due to fear that he could come across such a message.

“Because I was scared; I was so scared, I didn’t know how to explain it to you. Someday, you will get to know the truth, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, maybe you will never get to find out the truth but someday, you are going to know the truth and I pray that God is going to keep you alive to know the truth because,” she added.

‘I CAN’T WITHSTAND LOSING YOU — PLEASE DON’T LEAVE MY SON’

Sensing that Kpokpogri was unmoved by her plea, the actress again broke down in tears, pleading with the politician not to leave King Andre, her son.

“I know you have heard this before but I cannot stand to lose you, and if you cannot take me back, I swear I don’t know how to convince you but please, I’m going to beg you to take care of my son for me,” she said.

“Just take care of my son for me. Just do this one thing for me, don’t let his father come back to him, just take him like your own, please do everything you can to please, raise him like your own. That’s all I’m going to say to you.

“I’m tired, my heart is tired, my whole being is tired since I walked into your door, I have been made to feel like I’m nobody, I am somebody, I’m a human being and because I love you so much doesn’t make me less a human being.”

Kpokpogri, however, tackled her for attempting to end the discussion, saying “you said we should talk so why are you walking away from the conversation?”

In her response, Dikeh said she decided to bring the conversation to a close because “I can’t convince you”.

She also told the politician, “you’re going to hear about me!”

Her response further ignited a mild drama between the pair as Kpokpogri accused the film star of attempting to blackmail him with su***de.

“Let me tell you something, this thing you’re trying to do is what they call blackmail. If I wanted to give you a second chance, because of what you have done now, I won’t do that because I can see you are blackmailing me with su***de,” he said.

“What is the essence of telling me to go closer to King, I should not allow his father go close to him? So, you want to go and kill yourself? Go and kill yourself na.”

But replying, Dikeh said her comment was not to blackmail him but as a result of the uncertainties surrounding her condition.

“I’m not blackmailing you, I’m tired of life already, it’s not about me, I can’t blackmail you. I just said you should take care of him (King). I don’t know what the statement means myself,” she added.

: “I and Tega saw that the house was boring, so we decided to give the viewers a show” – Boma speaks

Ex-housemate, Boma Akpore disclosed his reasons for having amorous moments with the married housemate, Tega while he was in the house.

Speaking with the show host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Boma noted that he never planned to sn**ch Tega away from her husband nor did he have negative intentions as regards her marriage.
He held that he and Tega just noticed the house was boring, so they decided to light it up with their romantic moments, but unfortunately, it seems the audience was against it.

“Tega was the boys’ favourite. She will make daring jokes, we felt she was better than most girls because we felt girls were lying that they were single.

“I and Tega saw that the house was boring, people were always sleeping, so we decided to give the viewers a show. We felt we could be a standard performer.

“I did not feel I should step back because she was married but now I see. It is late, I am human but my intention was not to take a married woman away from her husband.” Boma said.
