Are you looking forward to Crailo's Haunted Tales event next Saturday, but want to enjoy some free, spooky fun even sooner? Check out Phantasmagoria, happening tonight at Schuyler Mansion at 6:30 PM! This magic lantern show features eerie tales including a haunted graveyard and a Witches' Sabbath, with accompanying images projected by unique technology that dates back to Philip Schuyler's time.

Look for the toy kitchen on this lantern slide in our miniature museum.

You can compare it to the one in our toy and games station. (the replica Joel built takes elements from several 19th century toy kitchens - including one in Switzerland and the one on display at Washington’s Headquarters in Newburgh).

We’ll be back at Staatsburgh State Historic Site on July 23rd (a week from today) and you can play with both of these toys.

We did a Raree Show at Schuyler Mansion in Albany NY for the site's 4th of July event.
Operating the moving components of the interior scene with strings on the side of the box, while telling a local folktale about Wouter Albertse Van Den Uythoff, known as "Boss the Baker." Boss the Baker suffers from a misfortunate series of enchantments, due to a customer dissatisfied with the poor quality of his esteemed St. Nicholas cookies.

We are thrilled to announce we have received the 2020 Dick Balzer Award from The Magic Lantern Society UK for our new magic lantern performance “Elliott and Schlemowitz’s Phantasmagoria.”

This performance derives from the ghostly “Fantasmagorie” of Etienne-Gaspard Robertson, for which we have made a fantascope projector mounted on wheels and track, created hand painted glass magic lantern slides, and array of other apperatus.

We are grateful that the Magic Lantern Society supports new work for this centuries old medium.
