Here are just few ideas that might be helpful for posting in August ☀️ If you have an idea, feel free to share it in the comments!

August is usually absolutely crazy for me. I don’t anticipate reading a ton of books this month 🤪 I’ll be busy getting our school ready for a new school year and also trying to get my own family/kids back into the school year routine. 🚌🏫

💬 Tell me something you are looking forward to in August.

📚 Must Read Monday 📚

Just sharing some of my favorite romance reads that I always seem to be recommending! 🤍

This week is going to be a busy one! Several work meetings this week and a lengthy to do list to prepare for a new school year. The beginning of the school year is its own special kind of stress. 😂

I hope you all have a great week!

💬 What does your week look like? Any fun plans?

Rainy Sunday morning here in Arkansas. Perfect coffee while reading weather. 🙌🏼

I’m currently reading the third book in the Chestnut Springs series, Powerless by Elsie Silver. I also started Look In The Mirror by Catherine Steadman on my Kindle yesterday and I’m intrigued. I think it’s going to be a good one!

I’m a sucker for a thriller with a summer setting and I love Ruth Ware, so I couldn’t wait to read this one. It was super fast paced and full of a lot of action so it made it hard for me to put down. There isn’t really a big twist or mystery in this one. The thrills and suspense are pretty straightforward. This felt like a departure from what I usually love in a Ruth Ware which are usually super smart and thought out twists. So as I read this one I kept waiting for “the twist I didn’t see coming” and well, it never really came. I still very much enjoyed the book though. There are a lot of character but they all are well written and I didn’t have any trouble keeping them straight. I loved the narrator, Lyla and the friendships that formed between the women. The setting was done to perfection and the reality tv storyline was an interesting take. I definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a mystery/thriller with the perfect summer vibes.

📖 Friday FOUR 📖

Happy Friday friends! 🙌🏼

1️⃣ Book I’m Excited to Read
Margo’s Got Money Troubles. I’ve been seeing great reviews for this one so I can’t wait to read it.

2️⃣ Book I Last Purchased
The Art of Catching Feelings. I actually bought six books in the Target sale and this is one of the six. The cute cover really got me!

3️⃣ Book I’m Avoiding
Mr. Wrong Number. It’s really starting to get a little unhinged how many Lynn Painter books I have bought without having read a single one. I know I’m going to love them but for some reason I keep putting them off.

4️⃣ Book I’m Always Recommending
Just For The Summer. This book will probably be my top romance of the year. It’s going to be really hard to beat it. It was the perfect mix of emotions all wrapped up in this cute cover. It will forever be a favorite.

💬 Tell me the last book you purchased!

I really loved These Silent Woods so I was so excited to read this one. It was a masterclass in creating an atmospheric setting and top notch character development. This book is not going to knock you out with action and twists but instead is a slow burn mystery with an intense look at the bonds we form with those around us and how we face our insecurities. And the unexpected romance storyline? I loved that. I deducted a star because I felt like the shift between timelines felt a bit clunky sometimes and while I enjoy a slow burn, this one took some time to really get into the heart of the mystery. I still really enjoyed this book and look forward to future books by this author.

▫️▪️what this week ▪️▫️

📖 What I’m Reading
I didn’t get in as much reading as I planned this weekend so I’m still trying to finish up a couple of books I’m almost done with. Currently reading The God of the Woods and Ladykiller on my Kindle. Should finish Ladykiller today and I’ll be starting an ARC for Look In The Mirror by Catherine Steadman. Not sure what’s next after The God of the Woods. 🤷🏼‍♀️

🎧 What I’m Listening To
Still in a huge audio book slump. I just can’t really get into anything even though I try new ones every week. I’ve been listening to lots of Taylor Swift (of course) and Zach Bryan’s new album.

📺 What I’m Watching
I’ll probably watch some NBA summer league games. This is a tough month for sports watchers 😂 I’m not a huge professional baseball fan. I watched Wimbledon all last week and now that’s over. 😢

🖤 What I’m Loving
I can’t seem to get enough of romance books lately. I’ll probably burn myself out on them. 😂 Loving anything with shrimp lately! I’d eat it every day if possible. 🍤🧡 Also loving summer afternoons in the pool with my kids. I’m going back to work on Wednesday so I’m sad those will be over, but we still have the weekends! This was quite the random list! 😂 Romance books, shrimp, and the pool. 😂

✨ What I’m Looking Forward To
Short trip to Nashville with my hubby at the end of this month! I’m tagging along on a work trip. ☺️ Also looking forward to the Olympics starting!

💬 What do you have planned this week?

Love a coffee and currently reading for a Sunday morning. 🤍🤎 And isn’t this cover gorgeous? 😍

I’m currently reading The God of the Woods. It’s the longest book I’ve picked up in a while. 😟 But I’m working my way through the short chapters and multiple POVs. I’m not going to lie…keeping all the people straight has been a bit difficult. But I feel like I’m a getting in a groove now that I’m about halfway through.

💬 Let’s have some fun in the comments. Tell me your current read then go like all the other comments of books you’ve read. ☺️

💭
I really enjoyed The Last Mrs. Parrish and this sequel is no different. This is a great domestic thriller full of smart twists and lots of action. Jackson and Amber’s characters were written in a way that made me literally despise them. How can two people be so awful? I deducted one star for having to suspend some belief several times. Some of the choices a few of the characters made (I’m looking at you Daphne 🤨🤔) had me scratching my head but I had to just keep reading. I loved the way that all the twists and storylines circled back to each other. And I loved Daisy Ann’s character. I recommend this one for any lovers of psychological/domestic thrillers but I really feel like you need to read The Last Mrs Parrish first before diving into this one.

📖 flatlay friday 🌊

Anyone else been watching Shark Week all week? We love Shark Week in our house! Except for the year we accidentally planned our beach vacation the same week and I legit couldn’t watch any of it! 😂

In honor of Shark Week, I pulled out a few books with oceans on the cover. The two on the right I have read (and loved!). The two on the left are still on my TBR.

💬 Who has fun weekend plans? What will you be up to this Saturday & Sunday?

I head back to work on Wednesday so I’m reading like I’m cramming for a final right now. 😂 So I’ll probably be drinking lots of coffee, reading on my couch and by the pool.

I recently saw .books & post their mood board and it inspired me to make my own!

If you’re new here, I’m so glad you are here! Here are a few things about me and what you will find on my page.

👋🏼 I’m Aimee! I’m a mom/stepmom to 5 amazing kids.
📍We live in a small town in Arkansas.
👩🏻‍🏫 I am an assistant principal for an elementary school. I was formerly a school counselor in the same school/district.
🪴 Reading is my favorite hobby but I also enjoy shopping at antique stores and taking care of my houseplants. I have over 30 plants currently. 😬

⭐️ I’ve made the recent switch to really only posting about books I love. Negative reviews have their place but they just don’t bring me joy. I want this space to be a happy and positive space. I will occasionally share what might not have worked for me in a book on my stories but not here on the feed.
📸 I love a bright, clean white background to a photo. My whole house is painted white. So you will see a lot of neutrals with splashes of color. I can’t help but feature a lot of illustrative covers because they are my fav.
📆 I post content ideas for every month. So if you are looking for posting ideas, make sure you check those out. I save them to a highlight above.
📋 I make a plans post for what I’m reading and posting every month but I’m going to be honest, I rarely stick to it! My mood reader tendencies are very moody. 💁🏼‍♀️

I’m so thankful for the supportive and fun community I’ve found here on Bookstagram!

Booking a trip to Prince Edward Island now…who’s coming? But seriously, Fortune’s ability to create a character out a setting is one of my favorite things about her books. I fell in love with PEI and it kind of stole the show for me on this one. I wanted this one to be 5 stars…I really did. But I think my 4 might even be a little generous for me. 🫣 I loved the friendship aspect in this book but I just didn’t buy into the storyline that Lucy couldn’t tell Bridget about Felix. They are supposed to be like sisters and I get the whole Joy backstory but it just didn’t feel believable to me. And then for Bridget to have this weird secret throughout 80% of the book…their miscommunication bothered me more than Lucy and Felix. 😂 The third act breakup left me scratching my head. It came out of no where and seemed…petty 🫣 I did love the dual timeline. Anytime we have a dual timeline about past/current summers, I’m in! The chemistry between Lucy and Felix felt genuine. I loved that Felix was a reader 🥰 The story was charming and I enjoyed the themes of finding where you belong. Overall, this is a good beach read with an amazing beach setting. I know a lot of people LOVED it and it’s worth picking up if you need something to read at the lake, on the beach, or by the pool!

We always have family over to our house! The kids go with my husband to buy fireworks (I don’t even want to know what they spend on them 🤪) and we swim, eat and shoot fireworks all evening. 🎆

I love a book with dual timelines. In this one we get Thea and Margot as teenagers in 1967 and women in 1977. I loved the look at how friendships and people (especially women) evolve over time. The characters were all very complex but I just didn’t connect to really either of the main characters. Margot’s character particularly drove me batty with how she manipulated situations and I felt abused her friendship with Thea in both timelines. There were so many red flags about this friendship and it made me a bit uncomfortable reading how Thea seemed to ignore every one. I really wanted to see more growth in Thea in the two timelines and for her to grow more comfortable in herself, but that just didn’t seem to be there for me until the last 50 pages. I also wasn’t super invested in the mystery part of the plot so the twist wasn’t really a big reveal for me. Overall, this is a complex look at friendship through the years. The setting and secondary characters (Shelly, Penny, Cara!) are all great but I just don’t see it being super memorable for me. If you love a historical fiction with a summer vibe, you might love this one!

Thanks to & for the most fun summer book package. The towel, sunscreen, and koozie are going to be perfect for poolside reading! And I can’t wait to read new book Husbands & Lovers. I’ve been wanting to incorporate more historical fiction into my reading and this seems like the perfect book to do just that.

| SYNOPSIS |

New England, 2022. Three years ago, single mother Mallory Dunne received the telephone call every parent dreads—her ten-year-old son Sam had been airlifted from summer camp with acute poisoning from a toxic death cap mushroom, leaving him fighting for his life. Now, in a search for the donor kidney that will give her son a chance for a normal life, Mallory’s forced to confront two harrowing secrets from her past: her mother’s adoption from an infamous Irish orphanage in 1952, and her own all-consuming summer romance fourteen years earlier with her childhood best friend Monk Adams—now one of the world’s most beloved singer-songwriters—a fairytale cut short by an agonizing betrayal.

Cairo, 1951. After suffering tragedy beyond comprehension in the war, Hungarian refugee Hannah Ainsworth has forged a respectable new life for herself—marriage to a wealthy British diplomat, a coveted posting in glamorous Cairo. But a fateful encounter with the enigmatic manager of a hotel bristling with spies leads to a passionate affair that will reawaken Hannah’s longing for everything she once lost. As revolution simmers in the Egyptian streets, a pregnant Hannah finds herself snared into a game of intrigue between two men…and an act of sacrifice that will echo down the generations.

Timeless and bittersweet, Husbands And Lovers draws readers on an unforgettable journey of heartbreak and redemption, from the revolutionary fires of midcentury Egypt to the moneyed beaches of contemporary New England.

I’ll take any excuse to post some pink books 🩷 Happy national pink day!

The weather here in Arkansas was so pretty yesterday so we spent half the day out in the pool. ☀️ So I’m celebrating national pink day with a nice little pink sunburn 😂😳🤪 oops. Think I’ll stay inside today!

Goal is to finish an ARC on my kindle (I’m way behind 🤪) and then we are going to dinner to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. She turned 14 on our travel day back from the beach. 🎂🎉

Alex Finlay books always make me physically nervous and tense. 😳 This one was no different. There are a lot of characters (his books all have many characters) but somehow I keep them all straight because he does an amazing job of writing a clear voice for each one. This books has so many different storylines right from the start and I was just waiting for them to finally intersect. And of course they did with the most interesting and unique little twist! I love how fast paced his books are. I always stay up way too late reading them because it’s so easy to say “just one more chapter”. It does require a bit of suspension of belief but that’s pretty common in this genre. I highly recommend this book if you need a suspenseful, twisty, fast paced thriller this summer. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

Let’s be honest. This is no where near all the physical books I still have left to read on my shelf/cart. 😂 These are some of the books I have on my “immediate TBR”. 🔜 I’m committing to getting to these SOON!

📍 current location: somewhere in Mississippi

Listen, I had good intentions of getting so much reading in on this vacation (I took 4 books!) but it just didn’t happen. Sometimes vacation reading just doesn’t pan out. I spent lots of time watching my kids in the waves as we had red flags every day (and double red flags on our last day 👎🏼). We were out and about a lot which meant not as much time for relaxing balcony reading. But I wouldn’t change a thing. The books will be here when I get back! 🤍

We are headed back home today and I’m looking forward to catching up with you all soon!

We are headed to the beach this weekend so I obviously have my priorities straight and I’ve already started packing….my books. 💁🏼‍♀️

I’m taking a mix of summer thrillers and summer romances. Oddly enough, the thrillers I’m taking are both hardcovers and the romances are paperbacks. I have strong feelings about only reading floppy paperbacks while on the actual sand. So my thriller reads will be for the condo! 😂

💬 Tell me about your ideal beach read! Genre? Paperback/hardcover?

I need a floppy paperback with a summer setting. Preferably with waves, palm trees, etc on the cover. 😂 It needs to look the part!
