Sade’s song, “Young Lion,” is dedicated to Adu, who is a trans man. Though Sade is known for keeping her personal life private, her son has posted about her support of him in the past. “Thank you for staying by my side these past 6 months Mumma,” Adu wrote in an Instagram caption in 2019, alongside a photo with his mother. “Thank you for fighting with me to complete the man I am. Thank you for your encouragement when things are hard, for the love you give me. The purest heart.”

My husband and I decided to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our meeting not by dressing up and going out to someplace nice but by going casual and re-visiting the place we met – now a barbeque restaurant. 50 years ago it housed a gay bar with a DJ and a dance floor. Michael (taller) liked the way my long brown hair whipped around on the disco floor. I (suspenders) liked the way his elephant bells clung in just the right places. He took me to his groovy bachelor pad a few blocks and the rest, as they say, is history. Our youth is gone but our love stays strong.
