If you're new to email marketing, you may have started with a Mailchimp account.

However, some of the features (or lack of features) in Mailchimp might have been preventing you from running successful email campaigns

Let’s break down the three biggest reasons why switching to ConvertKit can help you gain more subscribers and build great relationships over email. #1: Mailchimp can make you miss out on new subscribers

One of the best ways to get people to sign up to your email list is through incentives. Just asking someone to ‘join your newsletter’ isn’t going to be nearly as effective as offering them a free gift to subscribe.

People love free things.
It's true.

It’s a good practice to offer opt-in gifts to people that sign up for your email list!

With ConvertKit you can easily add your PDF, cheat sheet, or checklist incentive directly to the confirmation email.

This way, when people confirm their subscription, they are receiving their freebie at the same time!
Can you send opt-ins with Mailchimp? Yes. However, the process of sending automatic opt-ins with Mailchimp is cumbersome and difficult. That’s because it wasn’t designed from the ground up to make it easy to add incentive opt-ins like ConvertKit was.

Add some free opt-ins to your signup forms and you’ll see that it can dramatically increase the number of new subscribers you get!

#2: Mailchimp limits you to one opt-in per list
Once you start using free opt-ins you’ll realize the power they have in convincing people to sign up to your email list. But what if you want to create more than one opt-in?

With Mailchimp, this isn’t possible. You are limited to only one opt-in per list. Not good.

The Convertkit solution is to allow you unlimited opt-ins per list.

Using multiple opt-ins allows you to test which freebie works the best for your audience.

You can also create separate opt-ins for different blog posts on your website, matching your free gift with each.

Once a new Subscriber opts in to your content, they are then added to your list. You can also separate that list into Tags for even more powerful customization.

Using this method will help to increase your number of new Subscribers, since you are able to match the opt-in to the content on your website.

#3: Mailchimp autoresponders are difficult to create and edit
The heart of email marketing is creating relationships.

This is accomplished through stories, anecdotes, and emails that teach what you know. By creating an automatic series of emails (a sequence), you can create a strong relationship with your new subscribers.

Using Mailchimp, you can create autoresponders, but it’s not an easy process. In ConvertKit, you can build a Sequence so that you are automatically sending something to your new subscribers.

Want to add more emails to the Sequence? It's super easy to do!
Want to rearrange the order of the Sequence? Just drag and drop.
You can easily click between different emails and craft a series of messages that connects with your audience.

These features in ConvertKit make writing so natural that you’ll find yourself creating lots of Sequences which will keep your audience engaged for the long-term!

Let’s talk about the five elements of community design from Creator to Community Builder: Find Calm While Building Your Online Community by Deb Schell.

Architecture: a strategy for the layout of an online community.

Member Content: The written, visual, audio, and video content organized for the online community.

Experience: The onboarding, communication, notifications, and interactions of members.

Culture: the tone, guidelines, and expectations of your community

Participation: methods for members to share, connect, and communicate within the community

Technology plays a key role in alleviating the challenges of a solo community builder who juggles various responsibilities.

By employing technology tools strategically, you empower yourself to efficiently organize, schedule, plan, and create content and manage the myriad daily, weekly, and monthly tasks within your community.

In community building, alignment with community goals and business objectives is paramount.

A symbiotic relationship between these two entities fosters revenue growth and cultivates a flourishing community where individuals are effectively supported.

However, the reality for many community builders is that they often find themselves wearing multiple hats.

As a lone operator, you may find yourself acting as the community-building team, marketing team, sales team, lead-generation team, and content creator; all rolled into one. This scenario can be overwhelming and may limit your ability to give each aspect the attention it deserves.

Leveraging advanced tools can help streamline and automate your community-building efforts. For instance, project management tools can assist in organizing tasks, scheduling content releases, and planning community events.

Social media management platforms can help maintain an active online presence, promoting engagement and expanding your community reach.

Automation tools can prove invaluable in handling repetitive tasks, freeing up your time to focus on more strategic aspects of community building.
Email marketing platforms can enhance communication, ensuring your community stays informed about updates, events, and valuable content.

Furthermore, analytics tools can provide insights into the performance of your community, enabling data-driven decision-making.

This, in turn, allows you to refine your strategies, better understand your community's needs, and tailor your efforts to achieve optimal results.

I truly believe that digital tools can help us achieve our goals, but finding the right tool for you takes work. The recommendations below are tools that I currently use or have used in the past. The digital tools listed below are easy to set up, have support if problems arise, constantly improve their products with new features and functions, and update all aspects of their product(s)

Join me for a conversation to explore online community design and structure.

On March 25 at 12 PM EST I'll be sharing tips from my recently published book, Creator to Community Builder: Find Calm While Building an Online Community.

Here are a few things to consider about a community structure:

Consider your bandwidth to lead, host, develop, market, promote, and grow this program or membership.

New community builders should start with one structure and try it for a period of time to see how it fits, then decide on the next steps.

A community structure could be:
- A course
- A cohort
- A coaching group
- Mastermind meetups
- Networking groups
- A challenge

And more!
Community design is all about how you invite members into your online space, no matter where that is - creating an intentional door, and path for members to travel will enhance their onboarding experience and boost retention.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global celebration observed annually on March 8 to recognize and celebrate the achievements and contributions of women throughout history. It also serves as a day to raise awareness about gender inequality and advocate for gender parity.

This year’s theme for IWD is ‘Inspire Inclusion’: When we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we forge a better world. And when women are inspired to be included, there’s a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment. So, collectively, let’s forge a more inclusive world for women.

Many individuals participate in events and initiatives to mark the day, including conferences, panel discussions, workshops, and awareness campaigns. International Women’s Day is a time for celebration and an opportunity to reflect on the progress made and the work that still needs to be done to achieve gender equality worldwide.

Our speakers for this live event include:

Serena Snoad is the Founder of Good Community. She is a consultant, helping community professionals protect and improve wellbeing and build ethical and practical online communities.
