SHELF OBSESSED 🤩

I’m not mincing my words, I LOVE shelves! Having custom-made shelves built into this corner of our living room was such a good decision.

They are built simply with brackets from B and Q, MDF and some wooden edging, and are painted in the same colour as the walls to disappear. But this then allows for all our display items to really shine and stand out, the perfect solution if you are a bit afraid of colour and want to ease it in slowly through pops of colour. Here on these shelves we get to have a place for special and precious items filled with memories, alongside bits we’ve bought from charity shops simply because we like them.

And of course I am also OBSESSED because of all the faffing! Every time I get something new I have to work out where to put it, and I get to clean the shelves off and move things around, which I genuinely find endlessly fun 👏🤣

I’ve barely been on here over the last few weeks, and as this is the first time in a long time, I felt like I needed to acknowledge that. But now I’m writing this caption it may be that no-one has really noticed and I feel a bit silly 🤪

It can be so hard to juggle everything in life - and the pace and volume required from social media, as well as the way in which I want to show up (with genuine enthusiasm, energy, and my usual chatiness) - is pretty hard to fake.

I’m really hard on myself but am hoping that me giving a bit of an explanation helps. Have a swipe through to see what I’ve been up to ⬅️ SO MUCH to look forward to here at from my colourful home. I’ve missed you!

CLOSE EVERY DOOR TO ME . . . 🎶🚪

Bit of a story unrelated to the content of the post (except you know, doors) - which you should absolutely swipe through to get one of my very valuable interiors tips! ⬅️

BUT ‘close every door to me’ is a song from the musical Joseph and His Technicolour Dreamcoat, and back in 2007 I auditioned for the TV show ‘Any Dream Will Do’ the search for Joseph! Do you remember that? It was MASSIVE at the time and Denise Van Outen was a judge! ANYWAY I was only 18 at the time and managed to get through to ‘Joseph School’, the final 100 after 10,000 audition. This was where we did workshops and auditions at the TV studio with a live audience. I even at one point aungase some of my own songs (whilst playing the piano) for Graham Norton (who was draped over this piano!).

When they eliminated me, in front of the live studio audience, Zoe the Vocal Coach said ‘Sorry Simon, it’s a no!’ I of course said - ‘But my name is Matt’ and she just laughed at me and they all just silently watched me till I walked away 🤣. To this day, I think they got rid of the wrong Joseph! Ha ha.

I appeared in the first couple of episodes very briefly, mainly just clips of me singing and then looking sad, but makes for an excellent story now! Have you had your 15 minutes of fame before? I guess it won’t surprise you I have a theatrical background! 🤣👏❤️

THE LAST ROOM I DECORATED

I can’t believe it’s now been 5 months since our dining room transformation, and that I still love it this much! In fact, I think it might look even more gorgeous in the late spring sunshine?

All paints in here are .colours - and if this won’t persuade you to paint your skirtings and woodwork yellow I don’t know what will 🤣

Can’t wait to finish my latest project, my outbuilding to office transformation, I hope I love it as much as I do this!
