A high school in Napier has introduced the lavalava to its formal uniform following an idea that stemmed back a few years.

Students approached principal Dawn Ackroyd and the teacher in charge of Pasifika students, Nikol Stirland, and got support to start working towards its inclusion.

Now after three years, the school has unveiled their lavalava. ❤️

We are excited to bring our very own world-renowned Pasifika Fashion Designers to the Bay Area to host a sewing workshop for the local NHPI community.

AFA AH LOO. .ahloo grew up in the islands of Samoa, where he draws his inspiration from the Samoan culture, Samoan women and the beautiful environment there. He is not afraid to use color and mix prints and consider himself a maximalist. He hopes to create a platform and provide the same opportunities provided to him, for young Pacific Islanders who loves to create and design.

Joleen Ta’ase Lalelei Designs by Juliet is the owner of Lalelei Designs by Juliet. She is a well respected world renowned seamstress and fashion designer who has continued to be a rock in the greater Pacific Islander fashion community. A great number of groups, organizations and dance troupes that have been adorned in some of your favorite cultural attire have been fortunate enough to acquire their pieces from Ms.Joleen Ta’ase at Lalelei Designs. We are honored to have her with us to share her expertise with the Bay Area Northern California Pasifika community.
