Jessica Cruz has done everything right. She's a dedicated student, popular among her classmates, and has a loving family that has done everything they can to give her a better life in the United States. While Jessica is a part of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, allowing her to go to school and live in the U.S., her parents are undocumented. Jessica usually worries for her parents, but her fears and anxiety escalate as a mayoral candidate with a strong anti-immigration stance runs for office.

I grabbed this because I've kind of dropped off Green Lantern a little bit, and there have been a lot of new ones that I've wanted to learn more about. Simon Baz, Sojourner Mullein, and Jessica Cruz. While I learned a lot about Jessica, this is definitely NOT a Green Lantern story, although there are a lot of elements that setup for the future. Still a good story.

There's something unusual about Pamela Isley—the girl who hides behind her bright red hair. The girl who won't let anyone inside to see what's lurking behind the curtains. The girl who goes to extreme lengths to care for a few plants. Pamela Isley doesn't trust other people, especially men. They always want something from her. Something she's not willing to give.

This was a retelling of Poison Ivy's origin story. It was a little darker than I remember, but it was still very good.

If you were alive in the 90's, then you probably remember Miss Cleo, one of the most well known characters of the era. Her charismatic commercials were ones that were often imitated, but never duplicated. This was a deep dive into her mysterious past, her rise to notoriety, and her disappearance.

This was a fantastic movie, and I learned a lot about this wonderful woman that I never knew. Definitely check this out if you can.

Seventeen-year-old Mandy Koriand’r is not her mother. Daughter of Starfire and high school outcast, Mandy is constantly trying to get out from under the shadow of her bright, bubbly, sc****ly clad, and famous mother. Dyeing her bright orange hair black and sticking close to her best friend, Lincoln, Mandy spends her days at school avoiding Teen Titans superfans and trying to hide her feelings for the gorgeous, popular, and perfect Claire.

This was a book in the DC Graphic Novels for Teens line showcasing the daughter of Teen Titan Starfire. It showed what it's like living in a world where your parent is super famous, and you are doing everything you can to stand out and be your own person.

And at first it seems like Harleen has finally found a place to grow into her most "true true," with new best friend Ivy at Gotham High. But then Harley's fortune takes another turn when Mama's drag cabaret becomes the next victim in the wave of gentrification that's taking over the neighborhood. Now Harleen is mad. In turning her anger into action, she is faced with two choices: join Ivy, who's campaigning to make the neighborhood a better place to live, or join The Joker, who plans to take down Gotham one corporation at a time.

This was a completely different take on Harley's origin, and honestly, I kinda liked it. It shows her as a teenage kid who gets sent to stay with her grandma, and all the friends she meets in the process. She also meets Ivy for the first time. It's a very good story that I definitely recommend.

Sorry about all the reviews the last couple days everyone. Due to some life stuff coming up, I got a little backed up, but wanted to make sure I got in all the 2022 stuff so I could start fresh in 2023.

Today, and the last few weeks, I've been revisiting the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series. This volume of the Usagi series features the novel-length "The Dragon Bellow Conspiracy." It's packed with lethal sword battles alternating with humor, horror, suspense, and slapstick, this beautifully crafted and exciting volume features all of the most popular supporting characters from the series, including Tomoe Ame, Gen the rhino, and Zato-Ino the blind swordspig.

This volume of Usagi was awesome! It introduced his companion Spot the wonder Lizard, the return of the blind swordspig, and a crossover with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Definitely a must read!

Before he met Batman, Dick Grayson discovered the power of young love-and its staggering cost-at the magical Lost Carnival.

This was my least favorite in the DC Graphic Novels for Teens line. It's a look into Dick Grayson's background before his parents death and before he met Batman. He falls in love and has to choose between his best friend and life at the carnival or his new love.

Bullied nerd Virgil Hawkins wasn't the kind of kid you'd normally find on the streets at a protest--but like everyone else in the city of Dakota, he was fed up. Unfortunately, the first time he stood up to raise his voice, the world turned upside down. The experimental tear gas released that day left some of his classmates maimed or dead...but it left Virgil, and others, with stunning new abilities. Virgil has power inside him now--real power, the ability to channel and manipulate electromagnetic fields.

I never got the chance to check out Static the first time around, so I figured now would be a great time. This new relaunch of the Milestone universe is fantastic, and I can't wait to read more!

I've never read any Werewolf by Night, the first time I'd actually heard of the character was from the MCU special back in the fall. I wanted to learn more, so I picked this up. I don't think it was the same wolf, but still an interesting read.

When fourteen-year-old Selina Kyle, aka the future Catwoman, becomes homeless, she must confront questions of who she is and who she will become.

She rejects human cruelty, but sometimes it seems as though brute force is the only way to "win." And if Selina is to survive on the streets, she must be tough. Can she find her humanity and reconcile toughness with her desire for community ... and love?

This was a very good look into Selina Kyle's origin, and a lot darker than I thought it would be. But it was a very great read, and another really good entry in the DC Graphic Novels for Teens line!

Elementary-school teachers come under attack from children who have been turned into vicious monsters by contaminated chicken nuggets.

I'm not usually a fan of these kinds of movies, but Elijah Wood and Rainn Wilson made me really excited about this one. But it ended up being a pretty big let down for me.

When Stingy Jack brings Halloween decorations to life, a Brooklyn transplant and her dad must save their small New England town.

This one was not one I was excited for at first, but as the movie went on, I really started to like it more and more. Other than the over the top accent the character playing the mayor had, it was a really enjoyable movie and I think one that will be added to the annual holiday rotation.

I had no idea what I was going to get going into this, but I loved every bit of it! The way the showed the origins of the songs, the serious tones that you thought would be funny, funny when you thought it would be serious, and the cameos?

This entire movie was a fun ride that kept me on my toes the whole time! Even Mrs. Weird, who is not a fan of Weird Al at all, loved this movie, so I'd say that's a win!

Scott Free is a student at the Goodness Academy, on the planet Apokolips, ruled by Lord Darkseid. But he wants nothing more than to leave Apokolips for planet Earth. The only problem is that no one has ever left Apokolips of their own free will...or alive.

Scott has a plan, a foolproof plan, a plan that his found family depends on for their own freedom. But that plan never involved falling in love with the head of the Female Furies, Big Barda-the one person tasked with ensuring he never escapes.

I've only ever read one other Mister Miracle comic, and I really liked it! So it was cool to read more into his origin with this entrant in the DC Graphic Novels for Teens line!

When Victor and Nora happen to meet at the cemetery outside of town, they are astonished to find the connection they have each been missing in their lives. Their summer quickly spirals into a beautiful romance, and Victor's cold heart begins to thaw, allowing him to enjoy life just a little more. But when Victor learns of Nora's illness, he's driven to try to find a solution to keep from losing another person he loves...by any means necessary.

This has been one of my favorites from the DC Graphic Novels for Teens line, as I've always considered Mr. Freeze one of my favorite Batman bad guys. So this dive into his background, how he met Nora, and what led to her being frozen was fantastic!
