Congratulations to the cast and crew of The First Step. God has allowed us to be part of something much bigger than ourselves and I count myself privileged! The movie garnered a Best Picture nomination several weeks ago for the Texas Indie Films. Last night, the individual nominations were announced. TFS racked up! For their performances, Chad Illa-Petersen, Josmery Mulvahill, Anthony Taylor Jr., and Lakin Longoria were nominated as best lead/best supporting. For production, myself, Carly Laird, and John Frederick were nominated. Brandon Newman was nominated for Best Writer. And the Visionary behind it all, my husband, Jerry Loncon was nominated for Best Writer, Best Director, and Best Editor. Actual winners will be announced March 30 in Arlington, TX.

My church, Parkway Life Church, announced the 5 year vision of building a new worship center because we are at capacity on the one we are at now!

I believe in the gospel and Parkway Life so much that for the year 2024, every dollar spent on bread, cookies, confections, and more from my in-home bakery, Bunch 'o Bread, will
100% be given into the Grace and Truth fund to help build the building!

In this final episode of Brian and Jo's story, they admit the ROOT of the problem was that the marriage covenant was breached, and the FRUIT of the problem was hopelessness, unforgiveness, anger, and bitterness.

Anything in life that is precious must be guarded. Setting boundaries is for protection, not restriction.

The culture we live in is (what Brian and Jo call) "a broken mindset" of "all guys do it" and "if you've got it, flaunt it." Desperate to be free, Brian tried everything he could think of. Jo, wanting to honor her husband, kept quiet and slowly suffocated in silence. Until they both discovered, keeping quiet was the way the enemy was winning and the first step to healing was to talk about it.
Addiction is real and needs to be addressed by the Church. Per James 5:16 "Confess your sins one to another and pray for each other so that you may be healed". There is healing in talking and shedding light on what the enemy wants to keep hidden.

If 50% of the population struggles with some sort of addiction, why aren't we talking about it more? Why is the Church silent for the most part about it. Sharing any struggle is hard, especially if you have kept it well hidden on the inside. You may feel, as Brian did, afraid of being rejected and judged. Baring your soul and shining the light of God into your heart is the exact opposite of what the enemy, Satan, wants. Satan wants you to keep those secrets because there is freedom in 1. acknowledging there is a problem and 2. sharing and having accountability partners to walk this valley with you. And Jo, wanting to protect her husband, kept silent about the addiction that caused her to question if God is real. And, if He was real, where was He in her hurting?
As Brian says..."addiction is straight from hell". Addiction recovery is not easy, but it IS possible. Brian is living proof. Please listen to this episode, especially if you or a loved one is bound by addiction and longs to be set free, or if you are watching a loved one fall off the wagon time and time again and you are asking why and what can you do to help.
