There are so many reasons to celebrate namma beautiful Bengaluru but unfortunately our air quality is not one of them. Bengaluru is one of several cities identified under India’s National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (), whose air quality(PM10) does not meet the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). In such a rapidly growing city, it is essential to study the emission trends once every 5 years for introducing effective control measures in keeping with the changing dynamics of the city and achieving air quality targets. In order to identify efficient air pollution control strategies to tackle poor air quality, the Center for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP), under the aegis of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), developed an Emissions Inventory for Bengaluru. CSTEP examined the various polluting sectors and their activities and estimated their contribution and share in the city’s total emission load. Transportation and Road Dust had the biggest share in emissions of the city.
TL;DR Bangalore air is BAD, so a Groupon of activists, scientists and our govt are coming together to report what is causing the BAD air, and what we can do about it. 💨

I learnt that today is International Day of Women and Girls in Science, and thus the perfect opportunity to share this film I made with budding scientist - a video homage to the oldest beings in our neighbourhoods, the trees we encounter everyday that reveal new secrets every time we observe and listen. 🍃
