Meet your host: Maggie loves to drink an insane amount of coffee. She loves to read thrillers and listen to true crime podcasts. She loves sitting on the porch with her friends and talking into the wee hours. She has always been in love with history and is so excited to learn all about renaissance fairies. She is especially excited to attempt to sew and create her first original costume. Maggie is a kindergarten teacher and is passionate about teaching literacy. She has her own YouTube channel promoting children’s books and phonics. She is in grad school for clinical mental health counseling and she microwaves dinner really well. She is running in a Conqueror’s Challenge to make it to Mordor. It’s been two

Meet your host!!

Christie enjoys exploring off the beaten path places, finding hidden treasures in junk shops, and talking to strangers at dive bars. She has traveled through Asia, South America, and the UK, and is looking forward to visiting more renaissance faires here in the US and perhaps some renaissance faire forebears in Europe. Her storied work history includes the following roles: English teacher in Japan, bartender, and community support coordinator for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She is currently a data analyst in clinical informatics, where she seeks to improve accountability in healthcare one line of SQL at a time. She enjoys spending time with her dog, Fred, and watching historical docuseries. Hobbies include video editing, baking, hiking, gardening, healing in World of Warcraft, and dressing frivolously in renaissance-inspired garb whenever possible.

According to the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust, turkeys are believed to have entered Britain in 1526 by a fellow named William Strickland upon his return from America. His coat of arms even boasts a large turkey! This is one of the first depiction of a turkeys in Europe. After this, many turkeys began arriving on Turkish merchant ships so the birds began to be called turkeys!

Here is the FIRST ad for the Renaissance Pleasure Faire in California in 1963 created by Ron Patterson. In her book “Well Met: Renaissance Faires and the American Counter-Culture,” Rachel Rubin posits that Patterson’s lettering was a forerunner and inspiration to the psychedelic font that graced music albums and posters in the 1960’s and 70’s. Yes, this style started at the
