Cargo thefts during the third quarter of this year increased significantly over the same period of time in 2022, and there’s no indication it will slow down any time soon.
CargoNet, a theft monitoring organization, recorded 692 thefts across the United States and Canada in the third quarter of 2023, a 59% increase when compared to the third quarter of 2022. In total, thieves stole over $31.1 million in shipments in the third quarter of 2023, according to a statement from CargoNet.

A problem with seat belts has led to the recall of more than 3,800 Kenworth trucks. The recall applies to 15 different models.
The recall covers model years 2018-2024 Kenworth T800 and W900 vehicles, as well as model year 2020 Kenworth T660. The recall applies to a total of 3,841 trucks.
According to Paccar, in the event of a crash, the unsecured connection “may not properly restrain an occupant,” increasing the risk of injury to the driver of the vehicle.

The folks at Armada Transport are at their wits’ end trying to get paid more than $22,000 owed to them by third-party logistics provider Elite Transit Solutions.
They and other motor carriers that have been having trouble getting paid by Elite Transit Solutions may face more struggles to get what they’re owed, with reports of sudden layoffs at the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based company and an apparent pending cancellation of its broker surety bond.
According to published reports, the company has let go nearly all its staff. The most recent, on Nov. 3, saw some 65 people fired via Microsoft Teams.

Nations Capital and Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers have received bankruptcy court approval to be the agent and liquidator of Yellow Corporation’s transportation assets.
The companies will manage the relocation, transportation, refurbishment, inventory, storage, and sale of Yellow’s rolling stock assets. The sale will include about 60,000 units of trucks, trailers, and miscellaneous LTL support equipment located across the U.S. and Canada at over 300 terminal locations.

All three dominoes fell in a few days.
The Auto Workers (UAW) now have agreements with each of the Big 3 automakers. The new contracts are a sharp about-face from decades of concessions.
The tentative agreements go further than many thought possible on issues that the companies insisted were off the table. Stellantis agreed to reopen its idled Belvidere assembly plant. GM and Stellantis will include new battery plant workers in their master agreements.

If drivers have to be federally regulated by hours-of-service rules, brokers should be required to pay drivers for time lost waiting to pick up freight because it ends up making roads less safe.
