After some unintended delays, Encoding Bushido is finally at the printer and I hope to share the first print proof with everyone soon. Sadly there might be mail delays due to the holidays. I wanted to avoid this but it seems no one can avoid the slow downs. Thanks for your patience.

If you haven't already heard, the Encoding Bushido campaign has concluded and was fully funded. SO, what that means is I need to get all backers with physical rewards to complete their surveys. They were emailed this evening, so please check for them and complete them as soon as possible. Ideally, I'd like everyone to finish their surveys before Kickstarter actually turns over the funds. The more prep I can do before everything goes to print, the faster rewards can get shipped. Also, there are STILL some free videos headed your way - I had more videos than I had campaign weeks so you'll be getting a few more of those in the coming weeks as part of the regular updates on the campaign printing process. Once again, thanks to the backers!

The main character of Encoding Bushido making some changes - robots serving other robots. This process clip was the first page I made in the switch from GNU Gimp to Clip Studio Paint. It was an easy switch - but Clip Studio doesn't export these gif's as easily and I still use Gimp for that! Join the Encoding Bushido Kickstarter campaign and get the process updates along the way. The original cover for Chapter 2 of Encoding Bushido - this was where I switched main apps from Gimp (GNU Image Manipulation Program) to Clip Studio Paint. Why? Well, both Gimp and Windows 10 were making updates that just DIDN'T like each other. And Clip Studio, which is seemingly perpetually on sale, was always on my radar and was priced just right. Have you ever painted a depth map by hand to get the effect of an atmosphere in your scene? In visual effects, people do something similar all the time and it was something I did many times in making Encoding Bushido.

A HUGE part of this campaign was fueled by people who make and publish their own comics. It's a much larger community now than when it was when I started. And it is more connected thanks to groups like these, so I hope to offer this community some insight and value in the coming weeks.

SO that was a great first day. What happens for the next 28? Soon I will send out a survey on that very topic. Until then, I plan on sending out more videos. If you have been following the newsletter I've been bloggin/vlogging the large parts of my process. Today's first backer update includes a link to my YouTube channel where a lot of that content resides AFTER subscribers to the newsletter and backer get it. So a big thank YOU to everyone on the first day and a half of the campaign.

A little background: The tiles are from a photo I took at the Getty that are recolored, the structures and architecture were roughed out in Sketchup, the interface screens were designed in Inkscape and the page was drawn, inked and painted with Gimp. So every element of this page was basically free - except of course parking at the Getty which was at the time 20 bucks. HA!
