Osinbajo to inaugurate Delta Secretariat, IPP project Nov. 29

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo would on Monday inaugurate the newly completed multi-billion naira Delta State Secretariat Complex and the 8.5 Megawats Independent Power Project (IPP) in Asaba.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa disclosed this on Sunday while speaking to newsmen shortly after inspecting the facility in preparations for the inauguration.

He said that the secretariat complex named after Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Professor Chike Edozien was fully completed and ready for inauguration.

The governor said that the Secretariat complex which sits on a 45,000 square meters was designed to accommodate all the ministries and their staff.

"The secretariat complex is fully completed and ready for the inauguration.

"I went round to check the route through which the Vice President can come in for tomorrow's inauguration and am convinced that we are ready.

"The secretariat is a very complex one, sitting on 45,000 square meters, which is very huge and it's designed to contain all the ministries and their staff, except the Ministry of Works.

"It is so inter-connected with a lot of things to the point of having a banking hall, restaurants, creche and even a clinic that could actually serve as a mini-hospital.

"The new secretariat is internet enabled all through and it is powered along with other government offices, through an Independent Power Plant. That means we are having a 24 hours power supply.

"We also have conference rooms and all the ministries are interconnected.

"Plans are already in place for a full facility manager, with other sub managers taking charge of security, the cleanliness and the environmental sanitation.

The Governor also announced that the 8.5 megawatts Independent Power Project in the state capital would be inaugurated same day by the Vice President.

"The IPP will power all government offices, including the government house, to keep government activities un-interrupted.

"It will also enable us have the best of services and keep the workers comfortable," Okowa stated.

Hoodlums shoot Delta community leader, burn houses, cars

Tension has gripped the Evwreni community in the Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State as some armed youths have allegedly shot the immediate past President -General of the Evwreni Kingdom , Olorogun Victor Ohare , and set ablaze no fewer than three houses .
PUNCH Metro gathered that the incident , which occurred around 5pm on Saturday, also left over two vehicles burnt and many residents injured.
It was gathered that police detectives from the Force headquarters had a few days ago arrested Mr Tuesday Okuah and three others in connection with the alleged murdered of Sylvester , a younger brother to the immediate past Executive Director , Projects, Niger Delta Development Commission , Mr Samuel Adjogbe, in July this year.
The youth were alleged to have invaded the community following the news that Okuah had died in police custody in Abuja .
Following the news, armed youths said to be loyal to Okuah went on rampage, destroying houses and cars , and shot Ohare and another person in the process.
Sources in the community said hundreds of residents had deserted their homes for fear of being killed by the arms -wielding youths .
The youth were also alleged to have mobilised to burn the homes of the former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the state , Mr O’ tega Emerhor , and Adjogbe, but were repelled by security operatives.
