This is to let you know that Swamp Gothic is going on a brief hiatus. We WILL be back. There are a few reasons for that, and I’ll let you know what they are. Hopefully you’ll understand why this break was necessary and that you’ll hang on with me while I’m sorting things out. First, I want to reexamine the way I’m presenting the material. The outline I have been sticking to is starting to sound dry and academic. I wanted to try and put my skeptical mind to work and figure out what was behind the legends, but I don’t think that’s what people want. I think most folks like a little mystery in their lives. If I come up with (or try to) a logical explanation for everything, it kind of takes the fun out of it. Listeners want stories, not lectures. Second, I want to broaden my channels of distribution. I’m not knocking Anchor. They make it easy for anyone to start a podcast. The also provide a means to get you podcast on other channels, but it’s a multi-step process, and I am not yet familiar with how to do that. Hopefully when we get back on track, we’ll be available just about everywhere. Finally, I am looking to upgrade my recording set up. Don’t let anyone tell you that your cell phone is a great way to record podcasts. The audio quality is decent, but I’m having to move and convert the recordings to something my editing software can handle, and it’s just a huge pain. Easier to record direct to my editing software on my laptop where I can then manipulate it without the hassle of moving it from my phone and converting the format. For that I need to order a good quality USB mic and set up a little studio for me to take this to the next level. I have a number of cool stories coming up, and I will rerecord the podcasts I have already produced with more fun stuff and a less academic approach. Thanks for following me, and please hang in there for a bit.
Just as a little teaser, the first new episode will be about The Casket Girls. Sounds cool, right? I promise it is interesting.
