Currently Eating Cookies … it’s the holidays so calories don’t count (we know).

Also…reading burns calories (we think).

🗓️It’s US National Bake Cookies Day- and we don’t do anything here without books so it’s all about the cookies with a side of books.

🍪📕🍪📕🍪📕🍪📕🍪📕

A Sweet Mess by Jayci Lee feels like the perfect book for this challenge! I paired this Sweet Mess with gingerbread cookies that I attempted to decorate. I had so much fun with the decorations and sprinkles! Don’t worry no books were harmed in the making of this photo. Cheers to the elevated photo frame keeping my book up & out of the flour.

Do you like icing or decorating your cookies? Or what’s one of your favorite book props?

✨November Wrap Up✨

November was a great reading month! My most anticipated book came out - Iron Flame. Cue the book hangover. I even took a bath with candles to shake the fog from my brain. Then I jumped into the author who caused the predicament’s backlist. That’s why you see 4 books by Rebecca Yarros Rebecca Yarros - Author . I love her writing. She guts me but puts me back together.

All these books were 4 or 5 stars! I had two books I DNF’d but I don’t include those as read so you wont see them here.

My month consisted of

✨One Wedding & An Earl by Tracy Sumner ✨

If you’re searching for a historical romance that showcases women breaking through societal barriers, then search no more!

Meet the cantankerous Earl of Stanford who secretly adores astronomy and the talented female gardener, Necessity Byrne who steals his heart. The banter and witty exchanges between these two characters are simply flawless.

I absolutely loved how Necessity effortlessly teased him, causing him to let down his defenses. The supporting cast of characters adds a delightful layer of complexity to this book. Make sure to read One Wedding and An Earl to end your 2023 reads on a high note.

A Little Too Close (Madigan Mountain)
By Rebecca Yarros

I adored A Little Too Close! A Little Too Close emphasizes the importance of listening to your heart and instincts, especially when the world throws you a curveball. This contemporary romance also conveyed the message that age should never be a barrier to pursuing one's passions. It’s not just a love story at the center. I can’t go into too much detail without spoilers so believe me when I say there is a second chance of professional opportunities that gave the book more depth.

I enjoyed Callie and Weston together; their banter & chemistry felt natural. Gruff Weston has his world shaken up and I loved watching him mellow. I want to wrap myself in this cozy Colorado town and stay the week.

About:

Weston has returned to his hometown to start up a heliskiing company at his family’s resort. Madigan Mountain Resort is at the precipice of becoming Colorado’s next Vail or Aspen. Will this heliskiing option give them the push to bring in the money? Only problem is that all the lodging in town is full, forcing him to share a townhome. He is ready to ignore his roommate until he finds out he will be staying with Callie, the resort photographer and her daughter. The woman he gave the job to all those years ago. Will he be able to stay the closed off grump or will this living situation wake him up to new possibilities?

Rebecca Yarros is an author who never fails to impress. I had the pleasure of meeting her at Readers Take Denver last year. Holding my ARC of Fourth Wing, I couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and nerves as I approached her. I remember telling her that I didn't feel like I was adequately fan girling, and her husband chimed in to assure me that all of her books were equally incredible. At the time, I hadn't read her backlist, and felt awkward and a bit embarrassed. So this is me saying he was right. I am now fully invested in catching up on all of her fantastic work.

✨ Gothikana ✨

Now is the perfect time to pick up the hauntingly beautiful Gothikana.

Indulge in this ethereal mystery with a dark forbidden romance at its center that will leave you mesmerized.

The author RuNyx does an impeccable job of creating an atmospheric read that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The story is both thrilling and suspenseful, and the character development is top-notch.

Gothikana is a must-read for anyone who loves dark academia and a professor - student (college) romance.

Thank you Bramble Romance & NetGalley for the advanced reader copy. This book will be rereleased in January with purple sprayed edges. Preorder your copy today!

Description: An unusual girl. An enigmatic man. An ancient castle. What could go wrong?

An outcast her entire life, Corvina Clemm is left adrift after losing her mother. When she receives the admission letter from the mysterious University of Verenmore, she accepts it as a sign from the universe. The last thing she expects though is an olden, secluded castle on top of a mountain riddled with secrets, deceit, and death.

An enigma his entire life, Vad Deverell likes being a closed book but knowing exactly everything that happens in the university. A part-time professor working on his thesis, Vad has been around long enough to know the dangers the castle possesses.
And he knows the moment his paths cross with Corvina, she's dangerous to everything that he is.

They shouldn't have caught each other's eye. They cannot be. But a chill-inducing century-old mystery forces them to collide. People have disappeared every five years for over a hundred years, and Corvina is getting clues to unraveling it all, and Vad needs to keep an eye on her.

And so begins a tale of the mystique, the morbid, the macabre, and a deep love that blossoms in the unlikeliest of places.

✨ Recovering from an Iron Flame sized Book Hangover✨

Are you experiencing a book hangover and need to recover? Here are a few of my methods:

* Pick up a book that I’m excited about.

* Find a shorter book to hold your attention. Novellas are perfect.

* Choose a book from an author you already love.

Point of Origin by Rebecca Yarros feels like the best way to move forward after my Iron Flame hangover.

Point of Origin is a novella in the Legacy series. It’s a second chance, contemporary romance novel set in a small town in Colorado. It’s the perfect way to metaphorically move on from my previous book. Jump into this novella now!

Plus Meg Sylvan and Tim Paige are the best narrators. I am already sure you will enjoy this mind movie.

I’m very grateful to Tantor Audio for providing the advanced listening copy!

✨Iron Flame Eve ✨

We are less than 24 hours away from the release of Iron Flame. Happy release to all those celebrating.

I was inspired to take these photos before my Fourth Wing’s siblings arrive: Untitled Red Tower (Fourth Wing Special Edition) and Iron Flame. I couldn’t decide which photo I loved most.

My Riders Black motto leggings look pretty bada$$ next to the books in my opinion. I also love the stack next to the Fourth Wing poster that came with my advanced reader copy.

I’m forever grateful for Red Tower Books & Rebecca Yarros - Author for choosing me as an arc recipient. It just arrived one day and I’ve been obsessed since.

My conundrum this week is if I will be online. How much to be checking in? Can we all agree not to post ANY spoilers? I know you are excited; I am too. It’s in the good of the Book community to keep any spoilers offline. Please and thank you.

What are your plans for the week?

I’m going to B&N’s midnight release party tonight! Tomorrow I plan on reading all day long. ✨🐉

Review -
Friends Don’t Fall In Love by Erin Hahn

A fantastic read, this book focuses on rekindling past friendships, the power of staying true to your values. I adored Lorelei in Built to Last, was so excited to hear her story.

Lorelei, a former country music starlet, and Huck, a up and coming country music producer, share a history of friendship and a strong connection that is hard to ignore. They are both driven to prove themselves in the industry, and their chemistry is palpable. While the flashbacks provided insight into their long-term friendship, they did not significantly impact the plot.

This book shows what teachers face in regard to gun violence in America. You should be aware that it is central to plot. No gun violence is depicted on the page.

In this book there is an element of vague booking. Where you post something online hoping that one person you care about reads it. In this book steamy poetry was shared. It was a delightful aspect! I really enjoyed this book & hope you have a chance to check it out.

Tell me something that made you happy this week. We could all use some positivity.

📖Red Tower Chokehold

I did it. I purchased the Red Tower Untitled 2023 Release. Have you heard about this?

There is a book on Amazon (that has been verified by Entangled Publishing) that Bookstagram is going crazy over.

I bought it last night because Red Tower has had a fantastic line up so far. No one knows what it is but I think most have noticed the correlation to it coming out on Iron Flame release day!

It’s now number 1 in sold books on Amazon!! Iron Flame is #3

What do you think it is?

Kingdom Over the Sea by Zohra Nabi

🎧

This was the first middle grade book my son and I read together. We listened to the audiobook together before bed and it was magical. We both enjoyed hearing as the story wove in front of us. The pleading I would hear as it was time to turn it off.
“Just 5 minutes more”
“I need to know how Yara is.”
“ How can you turn it off now?”

The world building was excellent, I think this was the first time my son was transported to a completely new and magical world. Yara came from the UK and traveled to a new magical world and my son came from the US and listened as magic enfolded around him. This book had mystery and adventures.

The narrator had a fantastic performance, with inflections and emotion brought from the page through the speakers. I highly suggest this book to anyone middle grade level or above. I enjoyed this book and would read it without having a child.

Thank you to Simon Audio Simon & Schuster Audio for giving us the audiobook. I’m so grateful for the experience and the story time with my child that came out of this ALC. We were able to bond over books and spend quality time in the same story.

I bought another book for my trophy wall. That’s what a bookshelf really is. I read Blood & Steel by Helen Scheuerer on KU & loved it so much I needed the paperback. I’m now reading book two, Vows & Ruins which comes out September 21st!

Hope you enjoy this silly video. See if you can find when I fall backwards.

✨The Shadows Within ✨

Happy Friday Bookstagram! I’m bringing you a review for one of my favorite indie authors - Hannah Till!

The Shadows Within is book two of the Celestra series. This book picks up right where book one left off, so be mindful that they need to be read in order.

I have to call this out. The world building is incredible. Fantasy can be tricky but Hannah nails it. I am enveloped in the mysterious land that Nera is exploring. These trees give off a redwoods magnificence that makes me want to camp inside the book. When authors can transport me I am always impressed.

Without giving anything away, Nera is finding her way in this foreign land. It’s an adventurous epic fantasy with a side of slow burn romance.

The story takes on so many ups and downs it was a bit like a roller coaster. I’m hoping book three will answer all my questions and give me some closure.

Thank you Hannah for the advanced reading copy! All opinions are my own.

Things We Left Behind by Lucy Score
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Lucian and Sloane ignite in Things We Left Behind. As the 3rd and final book in the Knockemout series. I know I am not the only one who has been anticipating their story. We finally find the why of their relationship with a renewed focus on a new chapter for them. The love story is electric. Their nicknames, the banter and the steam makes this book one you cannot put down.

Suit Daddy Lucian has had a vague backstory and the people of Knockemout regard him as a loyal friend to Knox & Nash & a ruthless businessman that has deep pockets. Sloane, the local librarian, is short, fair and awesome. She is also a loyal friend that cannot stand Lucian. When they are at the same events, which is often, their verbal sparring exhausts everyone around them.

Situations arise that will force them to their emotional breaking points, we see if that hate can morph into something more. Strong emotions lead to heightened experiences. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the spice. This novel was blushworthy and perfectly spicy. Don’t let the flowers fool you, be a good reader and dive in.

Things We Left Behind is hands down the best book Lucy Score has ever written. I LOVED IT. I really enjoy Lucy’s books, so to have this easily be the best means you need to run out and grab this book now. I laughed so hard I cried, I cried, I highlighted so much. I’m off to the store to pick up my copy now.

My review is my honest opinion and wasn’t influenced by me receiving an advanced copy from Rick, Bloom Books or Lucy Lucy Score

My Temptation by TL Swan
🌟🌟🌟🌟

TL Swan has the ability to drop me into billionaire romances like no-one else. She wove charisma, angst, snark & spice throughout Henley & Juliet’s story.

Henley is an an arrogant man who prefers a life on his terms - uncomplicated. A strict daily routine with no use for his heart to be used keeps his world revolving. Confident, brash and demanding he craves his sanctuary of home near his best friends at Kingston Lane.

Juliet is a nurse who just bought her dream home. It was a steal and now she gets to remodel a home with potential on the quiet cul-de-sac of Kingston Lane. Everything in her life is falling into place until she finds out that Henley lives next door to her.

My Temptation should be set to Taylor’s song Cruel Summer. It’s catchy, fun and those lyrics are perfect:

“Said, "I'm fine, " but it wasn't true
I don't wanna keep secrets just to keep you
And I snuck in through the garden gate
Every night that summer just to seal my fate”

If you enjoy

In Charm’s Way by Lana Harper

I adore reading about Thistle Grove. This witchy town is on my imaginary bucket list of places to visit in the fall along with Stars Hollow and Velaris. In Charm’s Way is book 4 in the Thistle Grove series & picks up a few months after book 3 - Back In A Spell finished. While you don’t have to read these books in order, it does help give you a more in depth understanding of the characters.

This story revolves around Delilah. Delilah’s wit has allowed her to remain a closed off, self sufficient witch who longs to stay alone in Tomes & Omens - her family’s magical bookstore. Now with her wit failing her (due to the remnants of an oblivion spell) Delilah is forced to rely on others and it makes her even more angry than neutral Delilah usually is. This sets the background for her resourcefulness turned into desperate-times actions and the chaos that results. Look forward to a new love sapphic interest for Delilah with tendrils of elusive motives that play along that friendship.

In Charm’s Way has new magical creatures not yet explored in this universe, friendships put to the test, beautiful new crushes and much tension and angst. If you are looking to add witchy books to your library ahead of the spooky season, this whole series is a must have.

Thank you to Berkley & Penguin Random House Audio for the Advanced Reading Copies. I switched between the audio and the ebook. The narrator Yu-Li Alice Shen was phenomenal, I found myself leaning towards hearing her over my own voices from the ebook. My review reflects my honest views.
