It was only a few Mondays ago that this fella, Gordy Aboard (aka Tom), literally skateboarded in to our Noosa FM 101.3 radio studios and asked if he could have a few minutes on air to promote his fundraising skateboarding project where he is skateboarding from Melbourne to Cairns to raise money for the first-ever skateboard park in Laos. Tom worked for many years as an English teacher just across the Thai border.

So we had a chat on air. His fundraising goal is $20,000. I have followed his adventures ever since - kind of like a Mum checking out their kids' posts - Tom is the same age as my boyz.
Tomorrow morning on my Noosa FM 101.3 radio show, Its All Talk with Wendyoh, I will be chatting via phone to Tom who will be on his way to Mackay!

Please check out his Facebook and Instagram posts as Gordy Aboard, please donate. The footage, commentary, pics and his experiences must make an inspiring doco. I'm really looking forward to this chat on air tomorrow.
Tune your dials to Noosa FM 101.3, live stream from our noosafm.org website or listen to us (28 years on air as a community radio station) on the Tune In app.

So excited this rainy Monday for my Its All Talk with Wendyoh show on Noosa FM 101.3 from 9am to noon. My guests are Gayle Torrens (Gee Tee) and Rozanne McCarty-O'Kane.

Gayle, a retired Sunny Coast primary school teacher, has written a series of children's books and for years has dressed in happy costumes to regale kids all over Australia with her fun stories. Her latest book in the series has been written when she had almost zero eyesight due to a medical lens malfunction. She regained eyesight two weeks ago!

And Rozanne. Her whole life from A to Z was to follow her father's footsteps in the defence force. An asthma condition stopped that goal at Year 12. So she took option something else and became an amazing writer and is now helping people tell their stories, be it personal or business, as a ghost writer.

Also, My D-Jaye's Playlist is always full of great new songs and great music always. If you can't tune your dial to 101.3 just live stream from our website noosafm.org 🥰🎼🎧🦋

Let me tell you a story about Paddy Nolan... about "Paddy's Gold". Born-n-bred Aussie, young Paddy thought he'd look up his ancestor of the same name... back in Ireland where the ruins of the prison were... where that Patrick Nolan was sent to the "hell of Australia" as an English prisoner, some 200 years ago... never to return.

Better yet, let the bard, the "An Seanchai" (storyteller), Irish Joe Lynch, tell you this story himself while we are chatting on my radio show, Its All Talk with Wendyoh, on Noosa FM 101.3 this morning from 9am to noon. (Monday, October 12.)

Irish Joe is joining me for a chat just after 11am. From 10am, the man with the voice, the sous chef that rocks Noosa - even though he and his big blues voice is 20yo - Jack Raymond - will be in Studio 1, playing live!

From 9am, My D-Jaye's Playlist with everything new and some classics, too. And lots of regional singer songwriters who are awesome! Noosa FM 101.3... Almost 27... livestream at noosafm.org or tune your dial to 101.3 FM.

It’s All Talk with Wendyoh on Noosa FM 101.3, Mondays 9am to high noon

Growing up on a sugar-cane farm on the Maroochy River, I am a proud born-n-bred Sunny Coaster! My 30-plus-year career as a journalist allowed the ‘curious me’ to ask many questions and write many positive stories. I worked in London for the Fleet Street newspapers in the late 80s, worked for Asia-Pacific region publications and spent many years as a journo and editor here on the Sunshine Coast and in Brisbane. I have an innate drive to give back. Ever since I can remember I have had a great love and respect for nature, animals our wildlife; a huge passion to help people, connect people.

In the early 80s, I volunteered for Project Jonah where we monitored whale pods migrating north past Byron Bay waters. I have been a co-organiser for many community fundraisers for many causes - a new house for a community member whose house burnt down but insurance couldn’t cover the complete rebuild, for example. Since the 2000s I have volunteered and fundraised for Bali and Borneo’s Friends of the National Parks Foundation in Bali and Borneo and in 2007 volunteered with World Expeditions to build a stone bridge (by hand) in the tiny isolated South American village Quelqanka (4500m above sea level in the Andes, from Cusco, Peru) so that village children could cross the fast-running stream to attend the little school built by a Dutch volunteer group the year before.

For 14 years I was one of the volunteer organisers of the Yandina Street Fair and am proud to say that I built the performance stages from two to five during those years, booking many regional musos and, for many young bands or solo performers, our event was the first time they had ever performed in public. I started the Sunshine Coast International Readers and Writers Festival in 2016, the Sunshine Coast Poetry Slam Championships in 2017 (as part of Queensland Poetry Festival) and the regular fortnightly Words@play open-mic poetry nights in 2018. I have now passed these great events on to new custodians who will do them proud. I also have a passion for amateur theatre and have acted, directed, written, stage managed, painted sets, made cups of tea, set up tables and ushered punters in for decades. Growing up on the cane farm, my folks only had Gilbert and Sullivan records – and Reader’s Digest collections. Then young Uncle Geoff came to visit and left his modern album by a band called The Seekers. What a mind changer! Even though my Dad, Bill, was a gifted piano player in his youth, we never had musical instruments in the house until I was 13 and finally got the guitar I had sulked about for a good six months. The very month that I left for university, my mum, Beryl, was excited to get delivery of a piano – and she promptly signed up for lessons. As a sole parent, I grew my boys (now amazing young men) with a house full of instruments – guitars, a pink ukulele, a really cool drum kit (with my grandma’s feather pillow stuffed inside the big drum), a keyboard and heaps of percussion stuff. I wrote my first poem when I was four, according to family folklore, and was first published in The Sunday-Mail when I was 10 with my poem called “The Eremite”. My very first anthology, Girl With Words, will be published this year! So I love writing, I love stories, I love music and lyrics and I love promoting our regional writers – especially our young ones. I too, have many stories to tell having interviewed hundreds of regional characters over the years and I would love to share these local history tidbits with you. My “It’s All Talk with Wendyoh” show profiles regional singer-songwriters, performance poets, authors and scriptwriters plus I will be chatting with community volunteers doing great things. Plus lots of great music and my D-Jaye’s Playlist featuring the best of new Aussie releases and some Aussie classics.

AND: Big hugs and thanks to our own hardworking regional singer-songwriter Janice Smithers for allowing me to use her song, It’s All Talk, as the backing track for my new program promo. Big hugs!
