Our Mission Statement
Our very small yet growing Team at Context News decided that we were fed up with the way that major news outlets were presenting news stories. So we decided to do something about it.
We want to present popular and trending news stories with some context. There are many sides to every story, and we want to present as many of these sides as possible to the reader so that they are able to make an informed, balanced opinion. Namely, we want to provide some balanced context to our stories. It's a tough undertaking, but we want to give it a shot.
Our backgrounds range from those brought up in the Western world under the promise of a free press as well as those with origins from autocratic states. After many years of debate amongst ourselves, we decided that the core issue with major press outlets today is that every news story has an angle, an agenda, that they want to draw the reader into.
This is a natural by product of journalism. Western media is undoubtedly guilty of pandering to its readers. This stems from various reasons, which could include maintaining revenue and profitability (the latter has been the Achilles Heel of the industry ever since print became more and more obsolete). This requires media outlets to post sensationalist news titles to capture reader attention and engage the reader. This could also be the result of denial (think back to how the media was in denial in regard to the popularity of Donald Trump in the run up to the 2016 Presidential elections).
On the other side of the table we are presented with state media, which have their own agenda to push through, to maintain the Party line, to glorify the accomplishments of their State and to undermine those of the Enemy State.
Neither side is right or wrong, albeit both consistently and (dare we say) ignorantly fail to present the views of the other.
