Meet Jon Bond 👋

Jon shares personal experiences about navigating friendships in the context of anxiety, including discussions around **su***de and the importance of being the friend who is willing to talk about the hard stuff. We discuss the concept of "bargaining chips" in relationships and how transactional interactions can impact our mental health. Along with handling constructive feedback, the tendency to take every negative comment as criticism, and finding ways to thrive despite life's challenges.

👉In this episode, we delve into the delicate balance of living purposefully with the people we choose, while also acknowledging that life has its easy and hard moments, and that living with anxiety can be managed in a healthier manner.

Tune in to this episode for a candid exploration in the dichotomy between emotional and logical responses to anxiety and other emotions, and how they affects our decision-making within relationships and work. It's a true pleasure to share this authentic conversation with a fellow health and fitness coach / cancer survivor / all around bad a**!
**Trigger Warning. timestamp 22:52 mentions su***de

🎙️ New Episode!
Meet Andy Chan 👋

What started out as a keen curiosity to learn more about his own strength and conditioning goals led to a career change from accounting to fitness. Andy once aspired to be a professional soccer player ⚽️ While I don’t doubt he would’ve been a committed professional athlete, I’m grateful that he has found another way to make a tremendous positive impact. In addition to years devoted to fitness education and coaching, he is also now the co-author of Dynamic Balance 📗 an insightful and comprehensive guide to “Integrating Principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine into Strength and Conditioning”.

Drawing on his master’s degree in exercise science and influenced by his 10-year stay in the United States, Andy has a unique outlook on health and athletic performance. You’ll find hints of traditional Chinese medicine integrated into his training philosophy, where harmony between all aspects of life is a prerequisite to optimal health and human performance

👉 In this episode, we discuss Andy’s own background growing up with sports, his career change journey, how writing his book has influenced his own outlook, and more. Andy also shares his battle with anxiety, in hopes that it would help others who might be going through something similar 😮‍💨

Meet Steph Ng 👋 Steph founded Body Banter in 2016 after realizing the powerful role that discussion and advocacy played in her own eating disorder recovery journey. Through providing opportunities for community-building, advocacy and open discussion, she hopes that Body Banter can amplify the voices of individuals and empower them to be the driving forces behind creating a more accepting and accommodating world. Her fascination with the relationship between language and mental health has led her to her current PhD studies in a joint program between the University of Hong Kong and local mental health charity Mind HK, where she is exploring how cultural context and conversations shape the ways we view mental health issues in our community. Her work is internationally recognized, and has been featured on media platforms such as BBC, Channel NewsAsia, NowTV, and Deutsche Welle. (www.bodybanter.com )

In this episode, we discuss topics around cultural and gender differences in body image, the power of language that shapes our attitude towards mental health and illness, how we develop healthy identity with fitness and more.

Jake Elliott Glibbery spent most of his life in unusual relationship with circadian rhythm, light and wake/sleep cycle. Having previously worked in finance for over 10 years, that exacerbated sleep issues, burning the candle at both ends and struggling to adapt body to a “9-5” schedule. The unique sleep pattern led to an interest in maximising sleep length and quality, eventually creating with his co-creator who has a background in neuroscience, to collectively level-up the sleep quality Hong Kong, Asia, and beyond.

In this episode, I talk to Jake about the advantages of touch stimulation like boosting neurotransmitters positively, why some people are not comfortable with human touch, the interesting history of weighted blankets and the power of comfort transmitted through weighted blankets and more.

Kay Kay Keung is a director for the Hong Kong Powerlifting Federation (HKPF). This Lululemon Hong Kong ambassador coaches powerlifting and weightlifting, as well as competes in the two sports. As a competitive athlete who swims, runs and plays lacrosse, Kay Kay emphasizes the strength to size ratio as the quality of body performance in relation to physical size. A mission she has been successfully carrying out through her endeavors such as co-founding Trybe in Hong Kong.

In an interview with South China Morning Post, Kay Kay said “Before it was hard for me to convince women it’s possible to work towards a pull-up [an exercise in which you hold onto a bar above your head and pull your body up until your chin is above the bar]. Now I’m teaching women to do a muscle-up [an exercise to strengthen the arms and upper body, lifting one’s own weight while hanging from a bar to a position above the bar]. I am seeing more goals like that, rather than just wanting to lose weight. That’s a change I really enjoy seeing,”

In this episode, shares how she manages rotating between coaching her competitive athletes and competing herself, managing different physical skills all at the same time, organized and competed at the hardest event in her competing experience, women in weightlifting and powerlifting, and the interesting dynamic between her and her fiancé (now husband) where she’s his coach.
