Bakersfield – At around 4:20 p.m., the Bakersfield Police Department pursued a suspect possibly wanted for a hit-and-run, though this has not been confirmed....
Bakersfield – Just before 4:20 p.m., the Bakersfield Police Department pursued a suspect. The suspect was chased in southwest Bakersfield, in the area of Panama Lane, through neighborhoods and on main streets at various speeds. The vehicle, which had visible damage to the driver’s side, finally came to a stop on Whitegate Avenue, west of Akers Road, near Stone Creek Park. At least one person was taken into custody.
Bakersfield – Preliminary investigation points toward a murder-suicide after a man and woman were found deceased inside their residence on the 1400 block of Langston Street. Both victims resided at the home.
The Bakersfield Police SWAT team and officers were heavily present at the scene on Thursday. The exact time the incident began is unknown, but authorities received information about it around 10:50 a.m.
An unmanned aircraft and officers were used to enter the residence, where the bodies were located. The reason for the callout remains unclear. According to the Bakersfield Police Department’s social media page on X, a homicide investigation is underway.
Bakersfield, Calif. — A pedestrian was killed and another individual injured in a multiple-vehicle collision at the intersection of Oak Street and 24th Street on the evening of July 4.
Bakersfield Police officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 8:39 p.m. Upon arrival, they found an adult male lying near the roadway with major injuries, according to police. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The drivers of all vehicles involved remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the pedestrian was stationary on the center divider when a northbound vehicle on Oak Street failed to negotiate an eastbound turn onto 24th Street. The vehicle ran over the center divider, striking the pedestrian and four vehicles on westbound 24th Street before coming to a stop.
One driver was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the northbound vehicle was determined to be under the influence and was subsequently booked into Kern County Jail.

Tehachapi – Just after 2:12 p.m., the Kern County Fire Department, along with other fire resources, were dispatched to the area of Tehachapi Willow Springs Road and Highland Road for a report of a large vegetation fire. When units arrived, there was a fire line with 30-40 foot flames, according to the county public information officer. The fire spread across roads at times, threatening highly valuable infrastructure equipment such as windmills and neighborhoods. Evacuation warnings were issued and later turned into orders for approximately two hours; they have since been reduced to warnings. The fire has been mapped by air resources at just over 800 acres. However, ground mapping has not been done, according to the PIO. No structures have been damaged, and no injuries have been reported at this time. Fire crews will continue working through the night.

Around 11:54 p.m., the Bakersfield Police and Fire Department were dispatched to a rollover crash on Panama Lane west of Buena Vista Road. The incident involved two patients pinned inside the vehicle, involving one woman suffering major injuries. Firefighters used heavy power tools, including the jaws of life, to extricate the patients. A man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and without a license. He will be booked into Lerdo Jail once medically cleared.

The Bakersfield Fire Department responded to a report of a truck on fire late Friday night. At approximately 11:05 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to 711 Lake St. Upon arrival, they found a gray RAM truck engulfed in flames. The fire was extinguished shortly after their arrival. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
