Guess who's birthday it is?! Happy birthday to our fellow Skinne Bekkie 💗🌸

She is our forever ally, the voice of reason, the dry humor that makes us clutch our stomachs while we double over with laughter. We love her dearly and would be incomplete without her.

Have the best day Shaheena!! We can't wait to celebrate you properly.

Our last episode is going live today and it's a whole mess hahahaha!

You sent us some of your problems and we reacted to them and then spoke a whole bunch of nonsense in-between.

Thank you so much for joining us for our first season and for all the support. We are so grateful to each and every listener. Season two planning is underway and we're so excited to share more with you soon!

To our Muslim listeners, good luck with the last few days of the fast. To everyone else, enjoy the long weekend! It's our last one for a while.

struggles can be so difficult to talk about, but what happens in communities where education around mental illness is non-existent? How do you get help when you don't even know you need to ask for it?

We tackled some very hard topics in episode 7 and it was a totally different vibe than our past episodes but it was an important topic and one we hope to revisit in season two.

Did you listen? What did you think?

Coloured women have (and in some ways continue to be) forced into narrow silos where our existence is defined by a hand full of things: our ability to provide for our families, our ability to secure a man and then later, our ability to hold on to that man. You’ll notice I said provide for our families first. Why? Because many young coloured women enter the work place as teens. Working at the grocery store or a clothing shop. One thing coloured women don’t have space for is the exploration all versions of ourselves. Self-exploration is a luxury that usually, in South Africa, comes with a certain amount of affluence. The lack of agency that exists in the lives of young coloured women extends beyond the obvious issues of gender based violence. The pervasive societal inequalities that exist all over our country and especially in the Western Cape plays out in the community of coloured women who were never given permission to be carefree children, who faced adolescence fending off the advances of unchecked men in the neighborhood and were emotionally silenced in their own homes.

Is it any wonder women of colour are disproportionately more adversely affected by poor mental health? In this week's episode we're discussing mental health through the lens of 3 coloured women. Let us know what you think!

This episode comes with a TRIGGER WARNING my Skinne Bekkies.

If these are terms ignite memories of experiences you are working hard to heal from, leave you feeling vulnerable and uncomfortable, then please skip this episode:

- Gaslighting
- Mental illness
- Su***de
- Poverty and Mental Wellness
- Childhood trauma

As three women of colour with different experiences and struggles with mental health, we explore the complexities around how we firstly identify the problem and then seek treatment.

As women of colour most of us do not have space for the exploration all versions of ourselves. Self-exploration is a luxury that usually, in South Africa, comes with a certain amount of affluence.

Why are we as a community so stunted in terms of our education around mental illness? Is our current way of life contributing to the rising wave of people who are struggling? What does it really mean to be poor and struggling in South Africa?

With tender hearts we touch on the very real reality that women and girls of colour face on the daily.

Skinne bekkies! How's the fast going? How was the Easter weekend? We've been quiet! It's my fault (Nikki) there's been so much going on and I totally dropped the ball with our socials last week. Nabs is on a social media break until after Eid and Shaheena and I have just been dandelions floating on a breeze.

Anyway, we're back in action. New episode coming ASAP. And frequent posting back on the go!

Cheaters gonna cheat. Once a cheater always a cheater? Have you ever been cheated on or are you the one wearing the stripes? See what I did there?

In this episode we're talking ALL things cheating.

Emotional cheating vs physical cheating, is there a difference - which is worse? Betrayal, rejection and the breakdown of trust, can relationships survive it? What would you do?

Your bff is being cheated on? Crickets or are you spilling?

Nabs seems to think that everyone is capable of cheating. Do you agree? Shaheena's flirt is always on, is she just an innocent flirt or not so much? Nikki thinks cheating needs to be discussed up front, get those boundaries tight from the get go. Is that enough though?

Listen and tell us what you think.

How are we feeling about the new normal or is it the old normal? Are precidented times back?

This picture is from November 2020. I was looking at it the other night and I realised I won't have to take another selfie like this because masks outside are no longer necessary.

It's weird to think about SA without lockdown restrictions and how we're now just supposed to switch off all this state sanctioned paranoia.... but like, we had 2 years of doom scrolling and ingesting fear online. So how do we adjust once again? Especially when so many countries are re-entering some form of lockdown.

How are you guys feeling? Apprehensive? Relieved? Happy? Cautiously optimistic? Ready to dive back into the ways of old?

It’s time for introspection! Do you have friends that leave you feeling drained, emotionally unsupported, envious, or just generally meh?

Today we’re talking about toxic friends. We explore how we, as women, develop toxic friendship traits from the playground, all the way through to high school and we never really leave those high school days behind. What role do we play in toxic friendships? Sometimes what feels like a problem is a result of something happening internally, within ourselves.

Join us and listen while we unpack:

Isolation and exclusion
Manipulation, unhealthy competition, and jealousy
Love bombing your friends
The pain of the friendship breakup
How to identify the behaviors that make us toxic to others and how to identify when they are being turned towards us

Have we truly left the playground politics behind? Or is the catty, clique-y behaviour so entrenched in how we interact with other women that we’re doomed to always circle back to toxic behaviour? One thing is clear, in addition to dodging toxic men we also have to deal with toxic friendships.

While you guys wait for our next episode, listen to this clip from REAL TALK WITH JANE Can we turn the volume up for the young ladies in the back?

What is it about these wayward souls that manages to trap young women and how do we prevent our daughters from falling into the same cycle of unhappiness (and in some cases, even abuse)?

So well said Jane! We stan a queen!

It's finally Friday, what a week, we're so stoked that many of you love this week's episode, but now back to business.
Wanted: Looking for an emotionally available single man, not afraid of vulnerability and intimacy, willing to heal, grow, break generational curses, speaks and understands all my love languages and willing to help me take down toxic masculinity, misogyny and while we're at it the patriarchy.

We're gonna start hanging out at Woolies in the single meal sections and hopefully catch a bachelor. Send location pins for best Woolies food stores with the most pick up potential 😉
