Return on Ideas turns 3 today. Like watching my kids grow up, it's astonishing how fast it all goes.

Leading ROI has been exhilarating and challenging in ways I couldn’t anticipate. I've learned a lot. What's remarkable about these lessons is their dual nature, shaping me into a more capable leader but also helping me grow as a husband, father, and pursuer of values.

So, whether you're a fellow entrepreneur or someone interested in personal growth, I'm excited to share three lessons from three years of Return on Ideas.

Are you trying to pour from an empty cup? 🫗

It is tough to produce decent work when running on fumes. For me, the biggest struggle is just convincing myself to operate on empty, and pushing too hard usually has bigger ramifications. It’s easy to get sick, bitter, and disconnected, powering through frustration with a “just get it done” mindset.

But it’s so much better when we get to lead with our joy, passion, and creativity: the very things that make our work unique and impactful!

Nobody benefits when we’re pouring from an empty cup. So let this be your sign to check in with yourself before we head into the weekend.

Hi friends, Emilia here! 👋🏼

In terms of “best first days ever,” I think mine takes the cake: last July, I flew to Austin, TX to meet the Return on Ideas team at their annual summer retreat.

I was equal parts anxious and pumped. After 7 & 1/2 years of working for The Mouse (you know the one), this marked the beginning of a VERY different journey. Thankfully, nerves subsided quickly as the team welcomed me with open arms. They were everything I hoped for: authentic, goofy, brilliant, nerdy, hilarious, and SO incredibly welcoming.

Today, the team is gathering in-person for our annual winter retreat, and this week marks my 6 months with Return on Ideas. But my sentimental, sappy self is most excited that I now get to be a part of the goofy, nerdy crew that now gets to welcome our new team members with open arms.

This retreat will be focused on growth, mission alignment, dreaming big (for our clients and ourselves), and connection. Happy to be here and pumped to share the fun over the next few days. 🧡
