President Salva Kiir's Visit to China: Strengthening China-Africa Relations and Addressing Economic Challenges

South Sudan's President Salva Kiir recently concluded a pivotal visit to China for the China-Africa Summit, a crucial platform for enhancing cooperation between China and African nations. In his address, President Kiir emphasized the need for more balanced and reciprocal relations between the two sides. He underscored that the relationship should not be one where one party benefits disproportionately while the other is left behind, calling for true bipartisan collaboration.

Enhancing China-Africa Relations

President Kiir highlighted the significant role China has played in Africa's infrastructure development, resource extraction, and investment. However, he stressed the importance of ensuring that African countries, like South Sudan, equally benefit from these partnerships. His speech underscored that only through mutual benefit can the China-Africa relationship grow stronger and more sustainable.

Addressing Insecurity in Northern Sudan

The President also touched on the ongoing insecurity in North Sudan, a country that has historically influenced South Sudan’s internal dynamics. The instability in North Sudan poses security challenges, particularly along the shared border. President Kiir called for international support, including China’s diplomatic engagement, to help stabilize the region and mitigate the impact on South Sudan.

Economic Struggles and Bilateral Meetings

One of the critical issues President Kiir raised during his one-on-one meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and other top officials was the struggling economy of South Sudan. With skyrocketing inflation, dependency on oil exports, and the devaluation of the South Sudanese Pound (SSP), President Kiir sought China’s support in stabilizing the economy. In response, discussions were reportedly held about increased Chinese investments in South Sudan, particularly in sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, and energy.

A notable immediate effect of his visit was the 50% decrease in the exchange rate between the USD and the South Sudanese Pound. This improvement is likely linked to increased confidence in the country’s economic outlook following the talks with Chinese officials.

Upcoming Elections and Security Concerns

President Kiir also addressed concerns about the upcoming presidential elections in South Sudan. He acknowledged the challenges that could arise during the electoral process and hinted at potential consequences, especially if political disagreements flare up. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring a peaceful election process, while also acknowledging the importance of security arrangements between the government and opposition groups. The peace deal with opposition leaders remains fragile, and the upcoming elections are seen as a significant test of its durability.

Upon the summit ended, President Kiir returned home. He was welcomed by his cabinet.
President Kiir’s visit to China underscored his administration’s efforts to secure international support amid economic and political challenges. The summit provided an opportunity to advocate for a more balanced China-Africa relationship, address internal and regional security issues, and push for economic stability in South Sudan. His discussions with Chinese leaders may have laid the groundwork for future partnerships aimed at improving South Sudan's economic resilience and preparing for its upcoming elections.

South Sudan Joins Nile Basin Agreement, Ending Colonial-Era Water Control

Juba, South Sudan: President Salva Kiir has officially signed South Sudan's accession to the Nile River Basin Cooperative Framework Agreement (CFA) and submitted it to the African Union, marking a significant milestone for the nation and five other Nile Basin countries. The agreement, signed on August 1 and ratified by the National Legislative Assembly on July 8, 2024, is set to reshape the management of the Nile’s water resources.

This development is seen as a major victory for Ethiopia and other Nile Basin nations, as the CFA represents a shift away from Egypt's historical dominance over the river’s waters. The agreement aims to ensure that all Nile Basin countries have an equitable share and say in managing the vital water resources.

Scheduled to take effect in October 2024, the CFA will establish its headquarters in Uganda. The unified stance of the Nile Basin countries significantly diminishes Egypt's longstanding influence, signaling a pivotal change in regional power dynamics and fostering a more balanced approach to resource management.

Despite Egypt's reported attempts to undermine the CFA by allegedly investing $10 million annually to sway member nations, the determination of the basin countries has remained steadfast. Tanzania's historical opposition to colonial-era agreements further bolsters the push for fair and cooperative water management.

As the implementation of the CFA approaches, basin countries are preparing to operationalize the agreement. While challenges are anticipated, the CFA is a hopeful step toward more equitable and collaborative management of the Nile's vital waters.

Most Nile Basin countries, with the exception of Egypt, historically had few dams along the river. Today, however, many of these nations are eager to construct hydroelectric or irrigation dams, a move Egypt views as a threat to the water supply it relies on to support its growing population. As a result, Egypt opposes the Cooperative Framework Agreement (CFA) and is determined to block its implementation. Only time will reveal whether Egypt can persuade the majority of Nile Basin nations to reject the CFA or if it will ultimately have to adapt to the changing dynamics and cooperate with the new reality.

10 Reasons Why the South Sudan Men's Basketball Team Lost to the US and Serbia at the 2024 Paris Olympics

The South Sudan men's basketball team, despite having the potential and resources to challenge powerhouses like the US and Serbia, faced several obstacles that contributed to their losses in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Here are ten reasons based on an extensive analysis:

1. Unfair Officiation:
The primary reason cited for South Sudan's losses was the unfair officiating in their matches against the US and Serbia. Observers noted a bias in the referees' calls, which disproportionately penalized South Sudanese players. This created a significant disadvantage, as frequent fouls disrupted their game flow and morale. This unfair officiating against South Sudan is deeply rooted in the old mindset ideology that is highly fuels by fear that African teams may rise up take over most sports in the world. The western world has right in this case because this will be the nature of our sport games in the world, Africa will take lead in almost 80 percent of all sports that presented at the global stage. They only reasons African teams or athletes don't secure more gold medals is the only disadvantage everyone has over Africa, availability of resources to all. African has one advantage over everyone else that is unmatched natural physical strength.

2. Lack of Depth in the Roster:
South Sudan's team lacked sufficient depth, which became evident when their key players were exhausted. Unlike their opponents, who had the luxury of rotating fresh legs into the game, South Sudan struggled to maintain intensity throughout the match due to a shorter bench.

3. Coaching Strategy to Avoid Fouls:
The coaching staff instructed players to be overly cautious to avoid fouls, which negatively impacted their aggressiveness and overall gameplay. This strategy, aimed at mitigating the impact of biased officiating, inadvertently made the team less competitive against their opponents.

4. Stereotypes and Bias:
There exists a stereotype that African teams play overly aggressive basketball. This misconception affected both the perception and treatment of the South Sudanese team. Many of their players, trained in the US, Europe, and Australia, were disciplined and skilled, yet they faced prejudices that influenced officiating and public perception.

5. Inexperience in High-Stakes Matches:
South Sudan, being relatively new to the global basketball scene, lacked the experience of playing in high-pressure environments like the Olympics. This inexperience showed in their decision-making and composure during crucial moments of the game.

6. Limited Access to Elite Training Facilities**:
While many South Sudanese players trained abroad, the national team's access to state-of-the-art facilities and consistent high-level competition was limited. This disparity in preparation became apparent against well-established teams like the US and Serbia.

7.Travel Fatigue**:
The travel logistics and lack of resources for optimal recovery affected the team's performance. South Sudan's players were likely more fatigued than their opponents, impacting their energy levels and focus during the games.

8. Pressure and Expectations**:
The weight of expectations from their nation and the desire to prove themselves on the global stage added immense pressure on the players. This psychological burden may have affected their performance, leading to uncharacteristic mistakes and lapses in concentration.

9. Physicality and Injury Concerns**:
The physical toll of the tournament, coupled with the biased officiating, likely resulted in cautious play to avoid injuries. This conservative approach diminished their competitive edge against physically dominant teams like the US and Serbia.

10. Lack of Advanced Analytics and Support Staff**:
Advanced analytics and a comprehensive support staff are crucial for strategic planning and in-game adjustments. South Sudan's team might have lacked these resources, putting them at a disadvantage compared to their opponents, who utilized cutting-edge technology and extensive support to enhance performance.

In summary, the South Sudan men's basketball team's losses to the US and Serbia at the 2024 Paris Olympics were influenced by a combination of external biases, internal limitations, and logistical challenges. Despite these setbacks, their performance highlighted their potential and resilience, setting the stage for future successes on the global basketball stages.Above all, had the two matches of South Sudan with US and Serbia officiated fairly, South would have won both or at one of them. Unfortunately, the world wasn't fair to South Sudan because of the fear from the rise of Africa. When Africa rise, the world has to either open the way and give Africa respect and victory or watch Africa crashing everything on its path. It is a matter of time and all the osbctles and impediment are washed away for Africa to rise up. The west and east are doing all they have to keep Africa disadvantage, there will be a time when they can't hold no more.

UN Security Council Renews Arms Embargo on South Sudan

Amid concerns that the conflict in northern Sudan may spill over into South Sudan, the UN Security Council voted Thursday to extend the arms embargo on South Sudan. Despite appeals from South Sudan, the African Union, and countries including Russia and China to lift or ease the restrictions, the 15-member council voted in favor of the extension.

The resolution, primarily sponsored by the U.S., passed with the minimum required nine votes. The six countries that voted against it were Russia, China, Mozambique, Algeria, Sierra Leone, and Guyana.

In addition to the arms embargo, the resolution includes travel bans and asset freezes on South Sudanese individuals already on the UN sanctions list until May 31, 2025. No new names were added to the list.

U.S. Deputy Ambassador Robert Wood praised the resolution's adoption, stating that extending the arms embargo is necessary to control the flow of weapons in a region already saturated with arms. Meanwhile, the South Sudanese government accused UN forces of being a major source of illegal weapons for rebel groups in the country.

In contrast, Russia’s Deputy UN Ambassador Anna Evstigneeva criticized the U.S. for ignoring positive developments in South Sudan and focusing on sanctions that harm the country economically and weaken its security. She strongly condemned the move.

Assessing the Legacy of Hon. Athian Diing Athian as South Sudan's Finance Minister

Juba News Today published a powerful article about Hon. Athian Diing Athian terming him as the best minister to ever been appointed and has approval of majority of South Sudaneses but was relieved unexpectedly despite huge approval he has gain in the eye of public. The article emphasizes that Mr. Athian was not only the best financial minister but the best of all ministers appointed by President Kiir since 2005 up today. We have summarized this article today for our readers.

Today, JNT publish another article titles, Did President Kiir Appoint Unfit Minister of Finance and Planning? You can read about this article in their page.here is our short summary:

In a tumultuous economic landscape, Hon. Athian Diing Athian's tenure as South Sudan's Finance Minister stands out, despite its brevity. Appointed in September 2020 amid escalating economic crises, he swiftly navigated the nation away from the brink of financial collapse.

Upon assuming office, Hon. Athian inherited a dire situation: rampant inflation, unpaid public servants, and dwindling reserves. Through strategic interventions, he stabilized the exchange rate, slashed inflation rates, and replenished the national reserve, earning praise from both citizens and global financial institutions.

Despite his notable achievements, Hon. Athian's tenure was abruptly cut short, sparking debate over the wisdom of his dismissal. President Kiir's decision to replace him with Hon. Agak Lual Acuil, coupled with ambiguous remarks about financial transparency, has fueled speculation and criticism.

While some laud Hon. Athian's accomplishments and advocate for his reinstatement to continue his economic reforms, others question the timing and motives behind his removal. The divide within the parliament underscores the complexity of the situation, with some labeling it as a reckless political maneuver that could jeopardize South Sudan's fragile economy.

As the nation reflects on this pivotal moment, public opinion becomes instrumental in shaping the path forward. Was Hon. Athian's dismissal a hasty misstep or a necessary course correction? The answer lies in the collective voices of the people, whose insights will undoubtedly shape the trajectory of South Sudan's economic future.

Untill today, many still call for his reappointment once again despite that President fired him while was upset with him. The majority of South Sudaneses recalls that Hon. Athian was about to do incredible before he was replaced. The question today is will President Kiir relieve the current minister of finance and planning, the so called Prince of Apuk, and the financial Messiah of South Sudan? Perhaps, maybe Hon. Athian Diing was the true Messiah the elites have rejected and deposed.
We conclude this article today with this statement from Nymilpedia's article published on October 23,2021, which was stated by a senior executive in the INF.

"In Washington DC, a senior World Bank Executive said, “we congratulate and commend the Minister of Finance from South Sudan, Hon. Athian Diing and his colleague the Governor of South Sudan for the job well done in managing South Sudan which was at the brink of collapse”.

Pastor Lucy Bona Reveals her Past as a Bis*xual

In a startling revelation, Pastor Lucy Bona, a prominent figure in South Sudan's religious landscape, recently shared a deeply personal aspect of her past. During a riveting sermon before her congregation, she disclosed that she had been in a marital relationship with another South Sudanese woman named Tressa.

Lucy went on to recount the unconventional journey that led to her union with Tressa, emphasizing the unexpected shock her family experienced when she announced her intention to marry another woman. The pastor acknowledged the unconventional nature of her choice, attributing it to what she described as a malevolent force residing within her.

Elaborating further, Lucy painted a vivid picture of an internal struggle, suggesting that a metaphorical devil had compelled her actions, leading to a manifestation of a man within her. She explained that, in her distorted perception, it was this internal entity engaging in intimate relations with Tressa, rather than her true self.

However, in a powerful turning point, Lucy expressed remorse for her actions, seeking forgiveness and guidance from God. Through repentance, she claimed to have undergone a transformative realization about her true identity, recognizing herself as a woman with no genuine inclination towards romantic relationships with individuals of the same s*x.

This profound self-discovery marked the conclusion of her relationship with Tressa, and remarkably, both parties seemingly arrived at a mutual understanding. The acknowledgment of their shared gender and a lack of desire for a continued union led to an amicable resolution, bringing an end to what Lucy characterized as an "unholy romantic love."

Pastor Lucy's revelation serves as a testament to the complexity of personal journeys, showcasing the capacity for introspection, growth, and the pursuit of an authentic self in the face of societal expectations and internal struggles.
