RESPECT AND PROTECT OUR HEALTHCARE WORKERS

Over the weekend I was very disappointed to hear that a St John Ambulance and it’s paramedics were threatened and attempted to be stopped by a group of men near Tubusereia village.

The ambulance was returning to Port Moresby after attending to an emergency near Gaire village.

According to St John, “the crew had to reverse, retreat and hide for about one hour” after “men yelled and pulled out bush knives threatening the ambulance staff”.

I completely condemn this behaviour/incident and I’m thankful police and St John’s security contractor responded quickly and prevented any further incidents.

These incidents along the Magi Highway have become more frequent, and it’s deeply disappointing that ambulances have been subjected to these attempts as well.

Let me remind Hiri-Koiari and Central Province as a whole that St John Ambulance is providing vital services free of charge and are working for the greater good of our communities.

To those men who attempted to hold up the ambulance, one day you or your family member might need medical attention and if you continue to threaten them, they will be within their rights to cease services to protect their staff from harm. When that happens, you won’t only put your family in a negative situation, but the rest of our community as well.

These men should be ashamed of their actions and I hope they become better citizens in the future.

This is not how Central Province treats outsiders, especially those who are trying to help us.

In general, I urge our people to remind your community that organisations like St John should be treated with respect and dignity as they travel through our district and province.

One day, you might be in an unfortunate situation to call an ambulance for an emergency. Just imagine if they couldn’t reach you or your family because hooligans tried to hold up them up.

Lets DU better and change our mindset!

HIRI-KOIARI SIGNS K1 MILLION CREDIT GUARANTEE SCHEME WITH MICRO BANK (MiBank)

Friday, 16 June 2023

Great news for Hiri-Koiari small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs!

Yesterday, the Hiri-Koiari District Development Authority in partnership with Micro Bank Limited, signed a memorandum of understanding to pave way for Hiri-Koiari small to medium enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurs to apply for loans through the K1 million funding provided by HK DDA.

This now means that so long as you meet the requirements of MiBank, you are able to secure a loan from K2,000 to K50,000 to progress your business.

As MP for Hiri-Koiari, I was delighted to witness this momentous occasion and I am confident this scheme will go a long way for our business owners of Hiri-Koiari.

I thank MiBank for working tirelessly with the DDA to ensure this MOU was signed, and also give immense gratitude for their level of confidence for partnering with a newly established district like ours.

I am grateful for the hard work put in by the DDA, and stress that those who do apply for a loan, to ensure greater benefit through employment, community support and development goes back to our local communities.

I wish you all success in progressing your business plans, and look forward to hearing many success stories in the months to come.

Please find below photos from the event, and more information from the MOU signed.

We appreciate all supporting partners in the transformation journey of our societies and the nation as a whole.

The 47th Independence Day of Papua New Guinea celebration here, also had volunteers, highlighting how our nation was formed.

Young trainees and the general public were informed of basic details of PNG's history from the first Christian missionaries to World War II in 1942. Words of appreciation and apologies were shared for the heroes who faced great challenges to build this nation.

There were also fun games that involve, team bonding experiences, like greasy pole, treasure hunt, chicken chase, obstacle course (tyres), tractor pulling, tug of war, bag race and a mini cultural show.

The traditional attires are from selected four different regions of Papua New Guinea.

Thanks everyone for supporting City Mission PNG and we are looking forward to work more with you all, to educate and change the lives of disadvantaged people.
