The Department of Education (DepEd) lauded President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and lawmakers following the enactment of the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act. The new law mandates the establishment of dedicated evacuation centers in every city and municipality across the country.

Currently, DepEd allows public schools to serve as evacuation centers. The use of school facilities is capped at 15 days to minimize disruptions in education. It has been a policy directive of the Department that classrooms be used by LGUs as a last resort.

โ€œThis legislation is a game-changer not only for our disaster response, but also for public education. It addresses a long-standing issue of public schools being used as evacuation centers. With this law, we can ensure that learning recovery can immediately take place after disasters,โ€ Secretary Sonny Angara said.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) held its Annual Planning Conference on Thursday, bringing together key officials to review the agency's achievements for 2024 and to outline its operational plans, commitments, and performance targets for 2025.

Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista led the session, emphasizing the importance of collaboration across the agencyโ€™s four sectors to ensure timely completion of DOTr projects.

โ€œI encourage our sectors to continue to fast track our projects, and see to it that these are completed. Let us work together, for us to be able to implement all programs of the Department,โ€ he said.

Among the aviation sectorโ€™s notable achievements were the modernization efforts at Ninoy Aquino International Airport and Laguindingan International Airport. Meanwhile, the railways sector highlighted its ongoing big-ticket projects such as the Metro Manila Subway and the North-South Commuter Railway.

The road sector also presented significant progress, including the continued expansion of the EDSA Busway, with the opening of two new stations (Philam and Kamuning), construction of three new pedestrian footbridges, and installation of manlifts in five stations.

The maritime sector, for its part, underscored the completion of 271 port infrastructure projects since 2015. It also emphasized its ongoing push for the establishment of the Office for Multimodal Transport and Logistics, a move aimed at enhancing the countryโ€™s transportation network.

Dumalo ang Department of Transportation (DOTr) sa isinagawang groundbreaking ceremony ng Grab Asenso Center ng Grab Philippines noong ika-2 ng Disyembre 2024.

Binigyang-diin ni DOTr Secretary Jaime J. Bautista sa inagurasyon ang misyon ng Kagawarang magbigay ng komportable, kumbinyente at ligtas na biyahe para sa lahat.

"Napakagandang programa ang ginawa ng Grab dahil ito ay makatutulong sa lahat ng mga stakeholders natin. Kailangan po ng safety dito sa ating transport sector, hindi pwedeng pabayaan na ang safety natin ay ma-compromise," ayon kay Sec. Bautista.

Ang bagong livelihood center ng Grab PH ay para sa mga drivers, riders, merchant-partners at MOVE IT, kung saan may iba't-ibang programang pwedeng salihan katulad ng skills training, road safety assessments, at digital capacity building.

"Kailangan magtulong-tulong (tayo) and rest assured na ang Department of Transportation is always here to support this sector. Napaka importanteng sektor ito dahil malaki ang kontribusyon sa ekonomiya," ayon kay Sec. Bautista.
