It is official ladies and gentlemen DoorDash has entered the conversation Cannabis! Teaming up with Canada company Superette DoorDash will now offer pickup of cannabis products for consumers across Toronto. It states that both companies will abide by all laws and include age gates and ID verification for access and purchase. Maximum possession will be enforced during pickup. Wondering how this will differ from ordering on another platform such as weedmaps. With claims of bringing the in store experience to the DoorDash platform it will be interesting to see if this makes waves.

It’s encouraging to see California introduces a bill that would afford tax credits to cannabis retailers for the following qualified business expenses: employment compensation, safety-related equipment and services, employee workforce development, and safety training. The bill will also introduced a carry forward cannabis related tax credit. Hopefully this is a step in the right direction when it comes to reducing the tax burden on legal cannabis businesses.

Many dispensary owners in Michigan were hit hard last November when the Viridis labs recall occurred. GrownIn speaks with some of the operators impacted by the recall and what it meant for their business at the time. Some dispensaries saw in upwards of seven figures worth of product removed from their shelves in an instant. Even those with processing licenses were impacted because the biomass they received had been tested by Viridis before extraction were put on hold even if there was subsequent testing done after extraction with a different company. Many operators are now looking at changing up their testing methods and potentially going with multiple companies to avoid this issue in the future. Is this something you were considering? How was your business impacted by this recall and do you feel like this is a possibility in the future?

Based on the map compiled by Cynthia Fernandez of Grown In it appears MSOs are taking hold in even the smallest of legal states. Where other more established states appear to have less presence by MSOs. Maybe it has to do with market maturity and a more educated end consumer around what quality cannabis products is. Maybe it has to do with the specific laws in each state and what is allowed. Or it could be everyone’s least favorite the tax rate in each specific state allowing for greater profitability for an MSO to thrive and find value. What do you think the reason is for the increased or lack of presence from MSOs in your state?

Grown In sat down with Michigan Regulatory Agency’s (MRA) director Andrew Brisbo for an interview to discuss the status of Michigan’s cannabis market and his thoughts one of those topics was what will be the three biggest challenges of 2022 based on what was seen in 2021? Andrew responded by saying that the problems will be similar to years past and will include making a larger impact with social equity and brought up the Joint Venture Pathway Program as a specific example on how they are looking to make that impact. Has anyone participated in this program and if so what have been your experiences up to this point? Also, what changes would you like to see implemented?
