🤔 Let's talk about self-sabotage and limiting beliefs for a second. (Spoiler alert, I'm feeling soap-boxy!)
Today I'm working on some resources for my new membership 📝 (stay TUNED, details are coming soon!) that will help you write better copy for your business that connects with your audience and doesn't make you feel spammy, annoying, or gross.
And going through this process, I'm honestly feeling a bit emotional because I struggled with this for the longest time and never thought that one day, I'd be able to help other people through it too.
You see, I was sabotaging myself for years.
Looking back, I wasn't aware that I thought it was impossible to sell things without being annoying or "too salesy." This was a limiting belief that dictated my reality for so long. And as a result, I made zero sales because I was constantly caught up in worrying about what everyone else would think of me.
It wasn't until I heard one of my mentors, Brenda Ster, say that it wasn't my job to make assumptions about what my audience did or did not want to buy that I finally realized that I was the only person standing in my way. She reminded me that it's my job to serve my audience with value and that I would be doing them a disservice if I didn't tell them about the different ways I could help them (and yes, that includes some of my paid offers). 💡💡💡
And even after that lightbulb moment, it took an embarrassingly long amount of time (I'm talking YEARS) for me to realize that I could write sales and marketing copy my own way, in a way that felt authentic and genuine to me, instead of just doing what other experts taught as the "right" way (aka hit heavy on the FOMO and stuff like that).
Fast-forward to now, and I'm literally a different person. Once I leaned into doing things my way, everything clicked into place. And people started to notice... and ask me how I was doing it... and if I could teach them too. Which is exactly why I started my Facebook group Creative Copywriting for Entrepreneurs, and my entire business, the Creative Copy Shop, in the first place! And seriously, hold on to your hats because this membership I'm putting the finishing touches on is going to be a game 👏 changer! But more on that later...
Right now, I want to leave you with this: we can choose to believe the negative thoughts circulating through our minds, or we can choose to believe new thoughts. Our thoughts are just randomized suggestions from our unconscious mind anyways. 💭
What if the (let's be honest, often negative) things you tell yourself about yourself all day weren't actually true?
What if you really could do things your own way? What if you could genuinely get excited and talk about your offers without all the mind-drama and worrying about being too salesy?
Now that I am able to do this, I can tell you: it's not just reserved for people that are professional copywriters or even those who are "good" at writing.
You can do this. 💪 But you've gotta stop self-sabotaging and change those negative thoughts into positive ones first!
