There are probably a few people out there who remember the band god complex (yes, all lowercase) from the late 90s/early 2000s.
They were established in 1996 by singer and guitarist Erick Bieger and entered the Southern California music scene with a style they called "alternamelodic modern rock." Their live shows were raw, authentic, and always engaging.
They self-released their debut album "stainless" in 1997 and on the strength of that were signed to a three year contract with indie company Lost Sheep Records for whom they recorded a full length album but only five songs from those sessions were ever released on a self-titled EP in 1998.
That EP spawned two singles, “rockstar” and “kittens & chainsaws” (seriously, these guys never used capital letters) which debuted at #40 and #39 respectively on the Pure Rock Report and Jamsline national charts. “rockstar” peaked at number #14 nationally and #2 in several regional markets.
god complex parted ways in 2001 and didn’t surface again until Erick and drummer Tommy Maras played a one-off reunion show in 2015 at the Orange County Fair.
We are pleased to announce that we will be releasing a REMASTERED version of stainless in the 2nd Quarter of 2020 which will be available on digital music platforms worldwide. It has been long out of print and it’s time this lo-fi indie classic again sees the light of day.
Sadly, we will not be re-releasing the self-titled EP.
But we will releasing a brand new career spanning compilation album that will include:
1) The 5-song self titled EP
2) The remaining 4 songs recorded in 1999 for the never released full album *
3) The 4-song 2003 “Sunset Sound” demo
4) An assortment of other demos and live gems that we found buried in the archives
(* Two of the songs recorded in 1998 were tracked without vocals. Erick will be recording NEW vocals for these featuring the original lyrics.)
The compilation album will be released in late 2nd Quarter 2020.
