RT HONOURABLE SHERIFF OBOREVWORI EMERGED THE WINNER OF DELTA STATE PDP GOVERNORSHIP PRIMARY HELD ON THE 25TH OF MAY 2022.

Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori's emergence as the winner of the flawless election polling more than half of the total votes cast to defeat 12 other contestants who slugged it out with him didn't come as a surprise because political pundits have for months predicted his resounding victory .
The Okpe born politician who is the current speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly enjoys very warm and ingratiating relationships with the sitting governor; Senator ( Dr) Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa especially for the crisis free house of assembly hitherto with a notoriety for leadership changes from 1999 through 2016 when Sheriff Oborevwori emerged as speaker in the wake of the crisis which led to the impeachment of Chief Monday Igbuya.
Apparently, the uncommon savviness deployed by Sheriff as the numero Uno amongst his colleague parliamentarians in many ways that made history as the first speaker to lead the Delta State House of Assembly without hiccups for 5 years plus is a testament to his ingenuity in leadership and management of human affairs , a factor which earned him the respect and admiration of the governor . Thus his anointment as the successor in 2023 by the governor and the power house of PDP in the state in preference to other contestants expectedly was many pundits guess .
You will recall that the rambunctious Kenneth Gbagi sensing defeat in the primary had to withdraw from the race 72 hours before today.
Deltans should celebrate with the ruling party in the state for making this well informed choice which will definitely take governance to a higher level as demonstrated by the speaker for the five years plus he has been in the saddle as numero uno of the Delta State House of Assembly.

OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI

RE : MiNISTER OF TRANSPORT, RT (HON) ROTIMI AMAECHI GAFFE AT THE OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE RAILWAY TERMINAL AT UJEVWU TOWN IN UDU LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL AREA OF DELTA STATE.

Thursday, the 16th day of April, 2021, Rotimi Ameachi, the Honorable minister of transport was in Ujevwu town, in Udu local government area of Delta state to officially declare open the Ujevwu Railway Terminal Station.
The immediate host Community and the larger Udu Community were all agog and in high spirits to be part of the official ceremonies.
In such similar events, the representative of the Federal Government ( be it the President) is expected to pay courtesy visit to the King of the kingdom hosting the facility, but most unfortunately, that was not the case with the event under reference.
Indeed, it was a case of deliberate provocative posturing, crass display of incivility and indecorous utterances not befitting the status of a minister of the Federal Republic.
Like a leopard, Rotimi Amaechi's proclivity for loquaciousness has not changed since 1999 when he fortuitously became the speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
His public profile, like a cover of a book (regrettably in this case representing its whole essence ) has been characterised by belligerence, treachery and rascality. And for him to continue to publicly exhibit such untoward traits as a minister of the Federal Government in a regime posturing herself as a corrective one, is most embarrassing and truly confounding to those who still have faith in the government of president Muhammadu Buhari.

His shameful and unpleasant behaviour to members of the host Communities who flocked to the Ujevwu Railway Terminal for celebration almost slid into chaos but for the wise counsel of the elders of the host Communities who restrained the enraged youths from ventilating their anger in reaction to the uncouth and insensitive remarks of the minister to genuine observations which a sane and decorous minister would ordinarily have handled differently. Can anything be more than a direct affront and slap for a supposedly "informed" Minister of the Federal Republic to pointedly and repeatedly be referring to Warri as the locale of the facility instead of Ujevwu- Udu ; a distinct kingdom and local government from Warri which the Minister repeatedly mentioned throughout his speech?
In lieu of this gross insensitivity, the Udu people are deservingly demanding an apology from the president and a sack of Rotimi Amaechi who deliberately choosed to pitch the urbane people of Udu against president Buhari. But should the urbaneness of my people be taken for stupidity by delayed response from the governent, the governent should be held responsible for any untoward reaction from our aggrieved people. Nobody sows a whirlwind and reaps ...…...!
We know so well that actions of infamy like the one displayed by Rotimi Amaechi cannot add to good image of president Muhammadu Buhari. Rather, it will continue to alienate the people from the president.
For Amaechi to aspot his brash brand of politics responsible for his woes in Rivers State to Delta State is most unfortunate for the APC led governent of the federation which is beleaguered in too many fronts.
The least expected from any responsible governent to such show of shame by serving ministers , is to show them the exit door, otherwise by the next election cycle, the overweight of these indiscretions by this class of ministers will make the ruling party a political underdog..
It is delusional for President Buhari to believe that Rotimi Amaechi is a political heavy weight in the South south.
It is a given that River state is not in short supply of highly urbane and superlatively educated people but Ameachi's disposition most of the time comes off-color, out of character and it is a huge worry.
We expect Rotimi Ameachi's apology via the Presidency come fast before it becomes too little too late.

OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENCY

REPATRIATION OF 4.2MILLION POUNDS FROM THE UK - OUR EXPECTATIONS

Few days ago, we heard that the Federal government of Nigeria and her British counterpart had finally reached and signed an agreement to repatriate some of the recovered funds from the associates of the former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Onanefe Ibori.
The good news is that, at least, such huge sum of money is a big welcome in the prevailing economic circumstances.

Therefore, the Federal government is expected to fairly and prudently put the money to good purpose. And transparently too!
Notwithstanding the position of the Delta State on the heist now established against the former governor's aides , the indubitable fact about the public life of the former governor is that the only public office he held in Nigeria is that of the governor of Delta State. That being the unassailable position, whatever and wherever public funds traceable to the former governor as proceeds of sleaze is the fund of no other institution or agency except Delta State.
Against this backdrop, one is moved to counsel the federal government on how the repatriated money should be used by resisting the temptation of owning the money simply on account of the role she played.
Whilst it's hard to dismiss the tendency on the part of the Federal government to claim or own and use the money, it gets worrying to think, from the feelers we are getting that the money would be spent on already allocated and budgeted Federal projects, to wit, Lagos- Ibadan expressway, the second Niger Bridge. Need we be reminded that these already ongoing projects are not in Delta State save for the latter that connects Delta and Anambra state.
Question is, are there no Federal government projects in the state? Now, we also received another news just about same time that the government has approved the establishment of a Federal polytechnic at Orogun, in Ughelli north government area of the state. This is another good no doubt! But we must ensure that the already established ones meet minimum international standards. It's only this way that the good will can be honestly rationalised. Therefore, in keeping with the espoused mantra of the federal government, the only moral and rational option open to the Federal government is to deploy the money in providing the much needed facilities in any of the Federal government owned tertiary institutions in Delta State which paucity of funds had stalled for a long while.
It is on the above score that I venture to suggest that the money be released to the authority of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun for the ex*****on of ascertained dire needs of the institution under the supervision and monitoring of one of the anti corruption Federal agencies.

Very verifiable and cogent information speak to the dire need of a modern well equipped library, female hostel and a Senate building in the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun which the sum of 2. 8 billion Naira, the equivalent of 4. 2 million pounds that is to be repatriated can adequately fund.
While it is not our claim that the funds must be returned to Delta State, but deploying the funds for the above federal tertiary institution located in Delta State is about the moral highroad for the federal government whose anti corruption mantra has come under blitzkrieg in recent times.

Indeed, this is one of those rare occasions where the Federal Government must walk the talk to win back those large swath of people who supported and welcomed the Mohammadu Buhari Presidency but are now avid critics of the policies of the government which have not been resonating with all shades of people in the country.
A decision along the line canvassed here , certainly will add to the enervating goodwill and accomplishments of the present governent.
Implementation of the suggestion contained herein would be a shot in the arm for Deltans and majority of Nigerians.

DELTANS : PITY OF A PEOPLE
The governance of Delta State had continually slid from bad to worse since the emergence of Chief James Onanefe Ibori as the state governor in 1999.
First, be it noted that Chief James Onanefe Ibori's perception by many Deltans as about the only governor who performed above average is not quite a near accurate measure of prudent management of resources but one that was hinged by comparison on the woeful performance of the erstwhile state military administrators .
Deltans who had long been used to neglect and indifference from past military administrators who had governed the state before chief James Ibori came on stage, the principle of comparism, invariably, was in favour of the newly elected civilian governor to the extent that the few initiatives of
his governornment was greeted with wide applause even though Ibori's accomplishments were not sterling when juxtaposed with other state governors like Senator Bola Ahmed of Lagos state for example, vis-a- vis the huge resources that accrued to the state under his watch.
Indeed, the state was dealt a sucker punch when Chief James Onanefe Ibori choreographed Dr Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan as his successor - a man, truth to tell, was least prepared to take on the responsibilities of a state governor. His eight years on the saddle in Delta state rather than up his predecessors legacies only erased the little accomplishments that was bequeathed to him.
His experimentation upon experimentation with state resources on some phoney projects is laughable. More like a circus show! Take the Effurun - Sapele road for instance ! He left the only major road in Warri in worse state that any other administration both military and civilian even right from when Warri was under Midwest, Bendel and now Delta.
This was the decadent state of our polity when Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa emerged as the governor of the state in 2015.
The current governor is touted as Roadmaster and we shall for purpose of brevity begin our assessment of his performance from his acclaimed forte.
The Asaba/ Ughelli dual carriage way commenced more than sixteen years ago and inherited by the current administration is still very far from completion despite the huge budgetary provisions and cash releases.
The Warri/ Effurun road dualization project is barely attracting a sn**ch attention from Mr Roadmaster.
The Eku/ Orerokpe road project apparently the worst deplorable road seem not to catch the attention of Mr Governor.
Also in this scale is the Jeddo/ Ughoton/ Omadino road expansion project in lieu of dualisation which the area deserves.
Outside the governor's failed road projects, every policy decision of this governent is bereft of sincerity and utility value.
From diversion of local government councils allocation for purposes other than allowed by law and ethics, underpayment of local government council workers, skewed and politicized education policy, appointment and payment of over 3, 000 plus personal assistants providing no services, yet are paid amounts which triple what is payable to civil servants performing services for people and the state.
It is perturbing that even in the face of the overarching woes inflicted on the state for twenty years running, enablers and persons guilty of equal complicity are warming up to be handed the baton of government.
Notable amongst this clan of perfidious persons is Chief David Edevwie who is reputed to best others in the queue in his presumed forte of unethical international money laundering from onshore to offshore.
Deltans, it is time to rise in unison and reject every member of the failed political class who have contributed one way or another to bleeding the state dry and much more to destroying the destiny of this potentially great state blessed with resourceful and resilient men and women.
Together we can put an end to the continual assault on our psyche by using the awesome power of our votes to liberate and change the political/ economic trajectory of our dear Delta State.
Enough!

GOVERNOR OKOWA " UPGRADE" OF THREE COLLEGES TO UNIVERSITIES , POLITICAL STUNT OR GENUINE DEVELOPMENT?

The policy decision of Governor Okowa to invest College of Education Agbor, Anwai statelite campus of Delta State University, and Ozoro Polythecnic with University status vide the legislative cheorography called legislation enjoys the expected political applause from persons who allow themselves to be fooled from the bully pulpit.
But more rational and informed Deltans see through the shenanigan that that policy is, as can be gleaned from the slew of questions that have been resonating in the public discourse on the subject.

Some of the questions been asked pointedly in reaction to the establishment of the three universities are: has the Delta State University with several statelite campuses attracted the required capital investment from the state government?,
Can it be said that the Delta state University has been developed to her optimum status?, Is the state resources in a position to fund three addition universities in the near recession we found ourselves? , has the state government funded primary and post primary schools as the bedrock of education to the levels desirable ?, Why shouldn't the pitiable plight of the mass of unemployed graduates roaming the streets of Delta State not be a priority challenge to the Delta State Government?,
Are new Universities what we need above production outlets to engage our unemployment youths now drifting to yahooism as a result of frustration?
Not surprisingly, the multitude of discussants who responded to those questions raised in various fora didn't see any kind of justification for the three universities which to them is all about ritualism and make believe especially considering the deplorable position of the state even in the funding of primary and post primary education.

For those who allowed themselves to be swayed by political considerations in applauding the gaffe called education upgrade, I invite you to follow us as we lay before the public the challenges characterising education architecture of Delta State.
The bland argument that proliferation of universities invariably leads to more admission opportunities for our teeming youths in dire need of education is to say the least the worst fraud a government can subject his people to.

Even with the three additional universities , admission challenges for our youths will not be ameliorated
The truth of the matter is that it is the carrying capacity of the faculties in the university that determine how many students can be admitted per academic session.
And the former is a function of the number of lecturers/ professors available to teach in each of the faculties. As at today the College of medicine of the Delta State University, Abraka is only permitted to admit 50 students per session.
Whereas, the school of social sciences cannot admit more than 100 persons per session as a function of her lecturer capacity.
A good governent that is truly committed to enhancing the admission window in the state for our youths will rather expand the carrying capacities of the faculties in the statelite campuses and Polythecnic by providing funds for the employment of more qualified lecturers as against engaging in a mere ritual exercise of establishing new universities that does not add value to our educational needs.
It is also worth mentioning that in the real sense , a university is more than the name. A combination of factors all add up to invest the status of a university on a school besides the legislative instrument pronouncing it as a university.

But for the TETFUND sponsored buildings in our state tertiary institutions which to an extent elevate their architectural image, all that Delta State bequeathed to the state schools only qualified them as post primary institutions
All a genuinely interested governent needs to do, to provide admission opportunities for our teeming youths jostling for admission under a skewed federal admission which punishes states that are educationally gifted is to enlarge the admission capacities of the present tertiary institutions in Delta State from their pitiable status to an enviable one. University of Ibadan as a single institution can admit ten times more students than all the multiple mushrooms institutions in Delta State can provide.
Mr Governor, the right way to go is to increase the carrying capacities of the statelite campuses to allow for admission of more of our youths who are denied admission yearly under a federal government punitive and discriminatory policy skewed against Deltans.
It is time we stop playing politics with education and future of our children

JEDDO/UGHOTON ROAD EXPANSION PROJECT : ANOTHER APPEARANCE OF EXCURSION OF PILLAGE BY THE OKOWA ADMINISTRATION.

Several years ago when it became glaringly obvious that the hitherto rural suburbs of Ubeji, Iffie, and Egbokodo, were blossoming to satellite towns, as a result of a steady exodus of persons from the over populated metropolis of Warri to that axis, the Delta State Government was concerned enough to act.

This unplanned migration eventually led to vehicular gridlocks on that axis of the then budding Towns , thereby compelling the Gov. Emmanuel Uduaghan led administration, despite all its alleged inadequacies, to recognize the need and exigency of dualizing the very busy road leading in and out of the three towns.

While residents of Iffie, Ubeji and Egbokodo, reaped the good intentions of that government with respect to the dualization of their roads, which made vehicular traffic in those towns enjoyable and comforting, same cannot be said of Jeddo and Ughoton towns.

As at the time the dualization projects for Iffie/Ubej/ Egbokodo Road, was initiated, Jeddo, Ughoton and Omadino, which had more population than Iffie, Ubeji and Egbokodo, was curiously and unjustifiably excluded and not deemed qualified for a dualized road, due to extraneous rather than cogent reasons.

However, the plausible excuse of paucity of funds later adduced by the government for its inability to accommodate the two projects simultaneously, temporarily pacified and assuaged the yearnings of residents of Jeddo, Ughoton and Omadino, for a good motorable road to and from their communities.

The economic considerations which justify deployment of government resources for the construction of only utility projects, is particularly more compelling in the face of the near recession that the state economy is sliding into. It therefore behoves the State Government to maximize its scare resources by embarking on only projects that genuinely addresses the needs of the people to be impacted.

Thus, when late last year, the Delta State Government announced that the Jeddo/Ughoton/ Omadino Road was among the three road projects approved for dualization by the state government,
residents and indigenes of the area, in jubilant and ecstatic mood, embraced the news as a welcomed development, believing that Gov. Dr. Okowa had hearkened to their yearnings of several years.

However, events of late are ganging up to erode the joy, enthusiasm and confidence of residents of the area in the altruistic drive of Dr. Infeanyi Okowa, with respect to the road project. The people are particularly peeved and apprehensive, that the dualization project might end up a sham designed to fleece the coffers of the state, due to the seemingly uninspiring construction works, which looks like anything but a standard road dualization project.
Evidently, what is presently on ground in Jeddo/Ughoton/ Omadino, does not qualify to be called a dualized road. It is a mere cosmetic and unimpressive expansion of the old existing road.

Interestingly, the advertised value of the project is about 1.8 billion Naira, which by global value can produce a ten kilometers dual carriage way, with a marginal addition to the project cost. Little wonder that the joy and happiness of most residents have somersaulted into unbridled anger, unmitigated disappointment and scorn for the Dr. Okowa led state government, which has degenerated to a slew of negative speculations as to the genuine intention of government about the road project.

Assuming that the 1.8 billion Naira is not enough to finance a ten kilometer dual carriage way, which the people are in dire need of, common sense demands that prudence and accountability, ought to have influenced government in embarking on the project in phases, to the limit of what the available funds can execute at the moment, instead of the dubious make-believe road dualization project, which is nothing but a cosmetic expansion of only a mere three metres of the existing narrow road, as painfully indicated by the mapping exercise being carried out on the road.

For posterity sake, we must imbibe the mantra that
anything worth doing genuinely, is worth doing well to accomplish its utility value. The inexorable deduction by the people which has birthed a slew of postulations and conspiracy theories, can only be doused by Gov. Okowa, if the proposed worthless expansion of the Jeddo/Ughoton/Omadino Road is suspended, reassessed and properly awarded as a dual carriage way; and possibly implemented in phases as dictated by available funds. Short of this, any untoward obduracy or defiance by the government to the silent protestations by persons to be impacted, will simply confirm the insinuation that the proposed project awarded by the governor to his Agbor kinsman (Sharp Stone Nig. Ltd.), is a greek gift merely designed to fleece the state of the scare funds, begging to be prudently applied to provide infrastructure that would guaranty qualitative life of the people and, enhance commerce in the road corridors.

Meanwhile, it is openly being insinuated (though unsubstantiated), in the streets of Delta State, that this is one of the arranged projects disingenuously packaged by the governor, to raise money to fund the election activities of his anointed minions, which is the fillip required to enable them take over the reigns of government from him come 2023, with the sole devilish purpose of further pillaging and covering up his rumoured egregious heists of the state resources.

Other listed shoddy road project, include the Ugbolokposo Road and the Ukuatata Road, in Uvwie Local Government Area. Both roads are not only too narrow for vehicular movements, but equally substandard, despite the humongous amounts of money budgeted for their ex*****on.

It should be noted that the world benchmark for the construction of one kilometre standard road is 258 million Naira. The Jeddo/Ughoton Road is about 10 Kilometre which the earmarked 1.8 billion Naira can successfully execute up to 70 percent, that is if constructed to international standard. However, it is common knowledge in Delta State, that the roads constructed by the state government is shorn of the benchmark standard required of such roads. Should this continue, especially as regard the Jeddo/Ughoton Road project, the people may be forced to invite statutory agencies charged with the duty of checkmating corruption, to take a peep into this seemingly monumental fraud garbed in the toga of a dualization project.
Safeguarding the scarce resources of Delta state, is a collective responsibility entrusted on all Deltans, irrespective of tribe, gender, religion or age. Posterity and providence will forever judge us, if we keep mute in the face of such brazen financial heists by those entrusted with the state resources.

THE IMPERATIVES OF REDEFINING URHOBO ETHNIC VALUES/ RELATIONSHIPS WITH THEIR NEIGHBOURS

As a full blooded Urhobo man and patriot , I must confess that no independent or sponsored article in recent years has touched the core of my being like the pointedly factual and exhilarating piece entitled " ARE THE ISOKOS POLITICAL PAWNS OR VICTIMS OF SERIAL BETRAYALS FROM THEIR NEIGHBORS " written by one Prince Cogent Owhe, an indigene of Isoko, spefically from Isoko South Local Government Council Area of Delta state

The exquisitely superlative write up constitutes the fulcrum of my new found inspiration to unabashedly introspect and thereof, challenge my revered kith and kin in Urhobo land to also do a retrospection of their extant circumstances, socio- politically, as presently configurated. Truth is, as it were, the majority Urhobo ethnic nationality has gradually lasped into near political irrelevance, due to a barrage of well coordinated 'assaults' from their neighbours, far and near.
It is imperative I state at this juncture, that it is my esteemed opinion that for the Urhobo nation to regain its lost Olympian heights, it must jettison its arrogant mentality of going it solo; political juggernauts from the urhobo nation must embrace and nuture very convivial relationships with all tribes in Delta state, most especially, the Isoko ethnic nationality.
Our once close knit ally and brethren.
Indeed, with benefit of hindsight, the Isokos were once the closest political ally of the urhobos, until avarice, ethnic bigotry and a cesspool of political backstabbing and betrayals from both tribes drove a wedge of mistrust and unrelenting ' bad belle' between both tribes.

Whilst the Isokos have perennially harboured hostility or disdain hinged on the betrayal of more than half a century ago, the Urhobos on the other hand have assumed a supercilious stance anchored on the belief that the Isokos are unnecessarily fastidious and over vengeful.

Irrespective of these claims and counter claims by both tribes, patriots from both ethnic groups have sadly come to the realization that these petty squabbles is an ill wind that bodes no good fortune for either tribe.
But while the desirability of a reset cannot be faulted, it should not be applied wholesale especially at the domestic front because culpability is in degrees.
For persons of Urhobo descent who deliberately caused the wreckage on the Urhobo nation, no amount of recompense can varnish their sins. But for the fringe and circumstantial offenders, moving forward, there is need to engage with them so that we are properly positioned from the experiential level to identify similar challenges in the future and be proactive in nipping them.
It must not be lost on us that a donee of authority cannot exercise power which the donor of the authority has already taken from him, such was the fate of one of the most harangued politician in Urhobo land who has been bearing the brunt of our political misfortunes more than the Mastermind who still enjoy heroism from Urhobo of warped and treacherous background. But be it noted, for good or bad, history is always a reminder.

Whilst the Urhobos of progressive persuasions have consistently failed in the last 13 plus years to wrest power from smaller tribes with lesser population, the Isokos have developed a non mutual beneficial penchant of taking sides against the Urhobos of this genre , in the jinxed belief of paying back the Urhobos for perceived wrongs of yesteryears. Ironically, our Isoko brethren have always been shortchanged and /or overshadowed by other neighbouring tribes and, always left holding the short end of the stick.

With 2023 in the horizon, the Urhobos are poised to make another gambit for the governorship of Delta state and have come to the awkward realization, that an alliance with the Isokos is crucial and salutary.
Such an alliance is the safest and surest bee line to Government House, Asaba for the Urhobos of progressive persuasions whilst for our Isoko brothers, it will herald a period of bliss culminating in taking their rightful place on the podium of ethnic nationalities in the state.
For too long, and without gainsaying, the Isokos have played second fiddle to other tribes in Delta state albeit their membership of the three dominant tribes in Delta South Senatorial District. More of matrimony of strange bedfellows!
It is our firm belief and hope that this new unity will ensure that the rotation of offices inclusive of the governorship of the state is not delayed outside the prism of equity for our Isoko brethrens.

Sadly, the Isokos, like their Urhobo brothers / sisters have been consigned to the lurch by other tribes in Delta south, through an admixture of deft political sagacity and gunboat diplomacy predicated on violence and electoral brigandage despite their huge numerical strength.

Now that our lot has become entwined in the chicanery of Delta state politics, common sense dictates that we must forge a common front to confront our common bogeymen -- carpetbaggers, fifth columnists, party bigotry and shameless self centered politicians ever ready to sell their people for a jug of tasteless palm wine.

For this elixir birthed by Prince Cogent Owhe to translate to progress and growth for both Isoko/ Urhobo people and their communities, the mass of our people must come from the sidelines and do things differently with gusto. And more importantly carpetbaggers from within and culpable political leaders who held us down for this long must be shoved outside, except for those who are willing to 'repent' lest, this well thought out recipe might come to nought.
Future generation will not forgive us if we fail to forgive and forget issues of the past and harness our separate potentialities into one gigantic political behemoth destined to rewrite the political trajectory of Delta state in lieu of our population, political sagacity and most importantly our educational sophistication.

Now is the time, we must drive home the narrative of brotherliness and one love.
United we stand, divided we fall !
