So I got a bit of catching up to do, due to adulting lol. But for the second selection for 31 Days of Horror, a indie film most folks probably haven't heard of: Sharp Corner

Le premise: after moving into his and his wife's dream home, a series of fatal car accidents begin to occur on their front lawn, as his home is located right at the turn of a, you guessed it, sharp corner. Our protagonist becomes more and more obsessed with saving lives and putting a stop to the danger, sending his life, his family's life, and his marriage on a downward spiral...

Let me start off by saying horror is objective, and even though this is technically classified as a thriller, I consider it a horror, a psychological one at that, due to the horror elements shown all throughout the film. The gruesome accidents, the protagonist becoming more and more unhinged, the frightened reactions of his family and friends - - all horror related. And this was a surprisingly good watch, as I was drawn in by the cover art of the movie, and thought it was worth a shot watching it...

And I ended up enjoying it, and hopefully, you will too. You can pay to watch it on Prime or YouTube, or you can buy it from me separately, or join my subscription service and sign up for the Horror Fan Membership, where this movie, other horror films, new movies and tv shows will be included in your subscription service! It's October 1st so you know what that means: 31 Days of Horror!

My first selection to kick us off right is an indie horror film that's essentially a love letter to summer camp themed movies of the 80s: Marshmallow

Marshmallow follows Morgan, a pr***en who had a near death experience during an outing with his grandpa, and now has a debilitating fear of water and drowning. Despite this, his parents decide to send him to a summer camp, and while there, the campers all gather around to listen to the counselers tell scary stories. One such story is about a fiendish doctor who kidnapped former kids that would venture out at night at the camp for science experimentation.

Morgan, despite being afraid after hearing the story, ventures out at night and comes across said doctor. He runs back to tell his friends, who don't believe him...until the doctor appears, and everything goes downhill from there...

This film is one of my favorite horror movies I've watched this year, cause there's a huge twist that you'll never see coming, and the ending is INSANE. You can pay to watch it on Prime or YouTube, or you can buy it from me separately, or join my subscription service and sign up for the Horror Fan Membership, where this movie, other horror films, new movies and tv shows will be included in your subscription service! Want a good movie to check out this Saturday evening? Sit back, relax, and put on I Saw The TV Glow: a love letter to 90s nostalgia and a coming of age q***r masterpiece.

Synopsis: During an evening over his newfound friend Maddy's house, Owen watches a show called The Pink Opaque, a 90s Nickelodeon-esque (think The Secret World of Alex Mack and Are You Afaid Of The Dark) and it changes his life, significantly...

Sad that it's not up for Oscars, because it most certainly deserves it. Watch it and let me know what you thought about it! Find I Saw The TV Glow on Hulu, Prime, or you can find this, and more, in my TMSOC subscription service (inbox for more info).

Happy viewing!

Prior to portraying Freddy Krueger, one of Robert Englund’s early jobs on a film set was being paid to scatter leaves during the production of 1978’s Halloween.

Englund recounted being persuaded by his roommate to work temporarily as a set builder for the iconic movie.

Happy new year, kinfolk!

Want a new movie to watch? Here's the first recommendation of the year: Walden

Walden is about a humble court stenographer, who goes about his day doing work, and attempting to break the stenographer world record. During a trial, after hearing a horrible testimony of a child's unaliving by his father, he begins to have murderous urges. One day, while at the package store picking up an alcoholic beverage, a robber comes barging in, which becomes the catalyst for his rage to surface...

Ngl, this film is a very slow start, but it's worth the patience. Think of this as Dexter, if he was a court stenographer, and everything will make sense. Despite the slow start, I really enjoyed this movie once the story started unfolding, and I didn't see the ending, nor the ultimate culprit coming at all...which was a pleasant surprise.

But don't take my word for it; you can purchase it on Amazon Prime and check it out!

Enjoy!

When I think of Black men surviving horror movies, I automatically think of Kincaid from Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.

Dream Warriors already has a special place in my heart, with the line "it's primetime, bitch", (uttered by Freddy as he kills one of the teens by putting her head through a TV) but what I really loved is Kincaid surviving. Sure, he eventually gets got in the next movie, however, he survived his first film, and he was so badass!

"Let's go kick the motherf**ker's ass all over dreamland."
