Betelgeuse a dying star 💥

1. The supergiant star's formal moniker is derived from a mistranslated Arabic name meaning “the hand of Orion” (yad al-jauza).

2. Betelgeuse has used up its hydrogen. This is why we term it a red giant. Betelgeuse's helium is now fusing into heavier elements, such as carbon, oxygen, neon, magnesium, sodium, iron.

3. Betelgeuse is a massive star, about 10-20 times more massive than our sun, and about 950 times as large.

4. The star Betelgeuse that belongs to the Orion
constellation is in the end stages of it's life. It can explode at anytime. When this happens, it will appear as bright as the quarter moon in the sky, sufficient to cast shadows. It is so massive that it may turn into a Black Hole or a neutron star. If it turns into a Black Hole, it will become the closest Black Hole to Earth.
