ALIA COMMENCES REFORMS IN THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS IN BENUE

…ENTRUST SECURITY OF COMMUNITIES IN THE HANDS OF TRADITIONAL RULERS

Wednesday, October 11th, 2023

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has directed the Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs (BLGCA), to immediately restore some of the statutory obligations meant for the local government areas in the state.

The move is part of the governor’s steps towards reforming the Local Government system, giving the third tier of government in the state a new lease of life.

The Governor who gave the directive at a meeting with traditional rulers in the state on Tuesday, also said the state government was entrusting the security of communities into the hands of the traditional rulers.

Briefing newsmen on the outcome of the meeting with the traditional rulers on Wednesday, the Special Adviser, Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs (BLGCA) in the state, Dr. Dennis Akura, said the Governor also directed that all monies allocated for imprest and other running costs be released directly to the administrators at the local government levels.

The Special Adviser also disclosed that as part of plans to give the LG system a new lease of life, the DGSAs, who are currently the Acting Chairmen of the LGAs, are to come up with a needs assessment to address issues that need urgent attention at that level of government.

The needs assessments According to Hon. Akura, are to address issues such as office maintenance as well as fixing of drainages and culverts at the different local government areas.

Akura who spoke with newsmen in his office on Wednesday said, "I resumed duty just a few days back and in our first JAC (Joint Account) meeting we introduced certain reforms that were not implemented in the last administrations.”

"We directed DGSAs who are the Acting Chairmen of our various local government councils to revert to the old methods, old policies, old ways of paying and the required imprest and other administrative running costs to staff of LGAs, the HODs, the DCSAs and all other relevant staff of LGs so that they have what is required for them; so that we can hold them accountable for their actions.

"So as it is for now, in the LG system, the HODs are going to collect their correct imprest, not the one that was being paid by past administrations and that will boost their morale so that we will get the best out of them.

"We were able to release some money for administrative running costs so that some other things that are very necessary for the smooth running of the government can be done at that level."

He disclosed further that payment of salaries on the 25th of every month is among the reforms that have been introduced at the local government areas, expressing confidence that things at that level would change for the better under the Alia led administration.

On the security of the state and the outcome of the security meeting between the governor and the traditional rulers, Hon. Akura explained that the governor had implored traditional rulers to up their ante by ensuring that the security situation in their various domains improved for the better, urging them to also serve as promoters of the policies and programmes of the government.

The governor had equally charged the traditional rulers to always be in their domain for their subjects, instead of going around, a situation he said may demean their status before their subjects.

ALIA IS SERIOUS ABOUT SECURING THE STATE UNLIKE THE PDP PROPAGANDA ERA

Saturday, October 7th, 2023

It has to be made abundantly clear that Governor Hyacinth Alia is serious about securing the state and ridding it of criminal elements.

This is also the basis for which he gave marching orders to both security operatives and traditional rulers to ensure that the criminals who attacked and murdered two Katsina-Ala based cattle traders are hounded down and brought to justice.

The allegation by the PDP that it was Fulani herders that were attacked and killed is patently false and a figment of its blurry imagination which is obviously a decoy to mislead the unsuspecting public.

The public is hereby urged to disregard such bland and blanket falsehood as the usual antics of the PDP drawn from its familiar tone.

It bears stating abundantly for the avoidance of doubt that no Fulani herders was among the two traders that were unfortunately killed by criminals.

This is where it behooves the public to ask the PDP to not only stop their Nazi-style propaganda but to always seek to verify facts before setting out to mislead the public with their known fact-free and concocted fiction primarily aimed at stoking the embers of hate and sparking ethnic tensions.

Even during the PDP led administration that was only known for propaganda and eye service, a similar ultimatum was issued by their leader, Samuel Ortom, on the traditional rulers in Ado LGA, after a delegation from Ebonyi State were attacked on their way back from Benue after a peace meeting.

If the party can recall, Ortom had given a seven-day-ultimatum to Traditional rulers in the area, including the District Head of Agila Chiefdom of Ado Local Government Area to within seven days, fish out the killers.

Was the governor at the time biased for issuing such an ultimatum on the traditional rulers? Was the state more secured at the time as it is now?

Governor Alia has opted to lead from the front with a proactive governance approach to the menace of insecurity in the state and as such, the PDP should have some sense of shame and stop gloating over the spectre of insecurity in the state as it was right on its watch that insecurity was mishandled thereby making it to metastasize and spiral into the hydra-headed problem it is at the moment.

It has to be clearly stated that what happened at Nyihemba was purely a criminal act and the perpetrators must be punished to serve as a deterrent to others.

It is therefore mischievous for the PDP to conflate issues and cast the incident as though it was an assault targeted at cattle traders.

Does the PDP therefore imply that since Benue people are being killed on their farms and villages, reprisal attacks are now okay and anybody including travellers and innocent citizens be indiscriminately attacked and killed just for passing through or doing business in the state?

There should be a limit to propaganda, and Alia's government will not play politics with the lives of Benue people.

The state cannot be allowed to descend into a state of anarchy where impunity and lawlessness reign supreme. The recent past where everything goes in Benue is over, and over for good.

Let it be known to all that Governor Alia will not surrender the state to criminal gangs, and he will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that Benue enjoys maximum security.

The PDP should not encourage and cheer up some bad eggs to resort to the same criminal activities the Alia led administration is fighting to put a stop to in the state. The State government will not shield them because they are indigenes of the state. Every form of crime committed in the state will be treated with the same tenacity

A warning is hereby sounded to all criminal gangs to leave the shores of the state before it is too late as they will be mopped up soon.

DSP Lami Danladi: A Political Enigma in Benue South

The Deputy Speaker of the 10th Benue State House of Assembly, Honourable Mrs Lami Danladi is the most courageous, pragmatic and successful political leader from Benue South Senatorial District currently.

Hon Lami came into political limelight in the build up to 2019 General Elections where she contested for Ado, Okpokwu, Ogbadibo Federal House of Representatives. She later step down during the primary election to keep the All Progressive Congress (APC) united and formidable for the general election.

This her action was commended across party lines from the Agila kinsmen and APC faithfuls. Some of her supporters were angry for her political gesture thinking she has dimmed the light of her political struggles but on the contrary, she still remain a shinning light and a beacon of hope for viable options for political leadership.

As nature always remember and rewards her own through divine justice with guidance to right paths and decisions, DSP Lami changed her political ambition from the Enone House of Representatives Seat to State House of Assembly in order to give peace a chance once more as her kinsman within her party APC is interested in the seat.

With much influence from the 2019 contest, her party loyalty and consistency, she flew the APC flag for Ado State Constituency with easy winning with large margin in the primary election amidst wild jubilation and acceptance across the APC party hierarchy.

When the campaign for House of Assembly started in Ado, her name resonates across the ten council wards as she was the first politician to touch all parts of the Local Government including the remote Ezza axis campaigning for APC governorship candidate Hyacinth Alia and herself.

It was easy for her to campaign because she has touched lives through her humanitarian gestures, simplicity and acceptability which represents a handshake across Ado Local Government Area. This many political analysts said, underscore her overwhelming victory at the election and also the victory of APC governorship candidate.

DSP Lami after her victory did not relax but started another political navigation with how best she can support the state government of His Excellency Alia which she has laboured to deliver at the local government despite all challenges.

She kick-started her strategic maneuvers and alliances which consistently positioned her for honour in the Benue State politics. Her ability to humbly bridge the gap between diverse political blocs in the state gave her the acceptability for the Deputy Speaker's position.

Today, Hon Deputy Speaker Lami Danladi has become deep-rooted in the Benue politics raising the bars of women in leadership positions across Nigeria with her style of leadership which is rare to find in today's politics of greed.

With her current political status, she can never be easily sidelined in the annals of political history in Benue as her rising to become a Deputy Speaker still remain a misery to many political pundits but continues to inspire others as an enigma of the politics of Benue South Senatorial District.

Tribunal upholds Benue Deputy Speaker’s election

By Peter Duru, Makurdi

The National/State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Makurdi, presided over by Justice Ory-Zik Ikeorha has upheld the election of the Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Mrs. Lami Danladi of the All Progressives Congress, APC, representing Ado State Constituency in the Assembly.

The election of Mrs. Danladi was challenged by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate in the March 18, 2023 election, Mrs. Agnes Uloko.

The petitioners had alleged forgery against the respondent insisting that she did not possess the requisite qualification to contest the election as well as not being a member of the APC at the time she contested the election.

The PDP candidate prayed the panel to disqualify the respondent and declare her the winner of the election.

However, the respondent countered the petitioners prayers insisting that the allegations of the petitioners were mere hearsay and baseless.

She insisted that she possessed the required qualifications to contest the election and also tendered relevant documents to back up her claim.

Mrs. Danladi urged the court to dismiss the petition for lack of merit.

Delivering her judgment on Thursday, Chairman of the panel, Justice Ikeorha ruled that the petitioners failed to prove their case.

Justice Ikeorha said the petitioners failed to prove their case of certificate forgery leveled against Mrs. Danladi adding that they also failed to prove that she was not a member of the APC before contesting the election.

According to her, “the petitioners’ case was too weak to establish forgery against the respondent” adding that pleadings alone were not evidence before the court to prove the case.

The Court held that the evidence before the court “showed physically that the certificate tendered by the respondent looked genuine.”

She ruled that “the reliefs sought are hereby refused, the petition stands dismissed in its entirety.”

PRESIDENT TINUBU SET TO ATTEND G-20 SUMMIT IN INDIA WITH INVESTMENT ATTRACTION TOPPING NIGERIA'S AGENDA

President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Monday to attend the G-20 Leaders' Summit in New Delhi, India, on the special invitation of Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

On the sidelines of the Summit, the President will participate in and deliver keynote addresses at both the Nigeria-India Presidential Roundtable and the Nigeria-India Business Conference.

The CEO Roundtable will be attended by leading industrialists in the Indian private sector, Nigerian industrialists, as well as senior government officials from both countries.

The President aims to leverage this platform to attract global capital and promote increased foreign direct investments in key labour-intensive sectors of Nigeria's economy for job creation and revenue expansion.

Moreover, he will use this opportunity to highlight Nigeria's attractiveness as an investment destination, specifically outlining his cross-sectoral reform plan as encapsulated by the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Given the President's renowned experience in attracting investment to Lagos State, leading industrialists have sought separate private engagements with him at the summit.

The President's itinerary will also feature bilateral meetings with a cross-section of world leaders from four different continents, representing both G-20 and non–G20 countries.

These engagements are geared towards strengthening bilateral economic, trade, and investment partnerships for mutual benefit.

At the G20 Summit, the Nigerian leader is expected to share Nigeria's perspective on the theme, "One Earth-One Family-One Future," which speaks to the global unity required to address the challenges facing humanity and the planet.

With its collective contribution of up to 80% of global GDP, 75% of international trade, and housing 60% of the world's population, the G-20 constitutes a significant economic power bloc of socio-economic opportunity and geo-political stability.

While Nigeria’s membership of the G-20 is desirable, the government has embarked on wide-ranging consultations with a view to ascertaining the benefits and risks of membership.

This is consistent with the desire of the President to democratize foreign policy and articulate policy formulation and implementation through a Whole-of-Society and a Whole-of-Government approach that achieves the nation’s long-term strategic objectives.

Once consultations are concluded, the government will decide whether or not to apply to join as appropriate. The participation of President Tinubu at the G-20 Summit in India is, in part, in furtherance of this objective.

Accompanying President Tinubu on the mission are the following members of his cabinet: Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy; Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy; and Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment.

President Tinubu will return to Nigeria immediately following the conclusion of the Summit.

The protesters subsequently moved to the second gate of the Assembly Complex even as Senators immediately entered a closed-door session.

The Organised Labour including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and their affiliate unions, today, kicked off a protest in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, and other states of the Federation including Lagos, Abia, Plateau, Kaduna, Kano, Rivers, Zamfara, Katsina, Cross River, Ebonyi, Enugu, Kwara, Ogun, Imo, Ondo, and Edo.

Senate Sets Up Committee

Senate President Godswill Akpabio is expected to address the protesters ahead of today’s screening of ministerial nominees.

At the end of Senate’s closed-door session, Akpabio said the red chamber has set up a three-man committee to meet with the protesters at the National Assembly.

The Senate also resolved that it will in the shortest possible time meet with the NLC and TUC leadership to find an amicable resolution to the current impasse.

PRESS STATEMENT

Thursday, July 20th, 2023.

TEACHERS AND COUNCIL WORKERS SHALL SMILE NOW

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia expresses regrets over the delay in payment of salaries of teachers in Primary and Secondary Schools, as well as the Local Government staff.

The governor says the decision for the delay in the payment of salaries of the above mentioned workers was taken after the government discovered mindless padding of the wage bill, and other fraudulent manipulations on their payroll.

He says the decision became necessary after the discovery, to enable the government sanitize and cleanse the payroll; to ascertain the true wage bill of the state and to know the genuine workers that are worth their wages.

He reveals that the first phase of an extensive staff verification and payroll audit for all teachers and local government staff has just been concluded, and it has already uncovered over 2500 ghost workers that have already been removed from the payroll.

He identifies ghost workers, ghost schools, double dipping, unlawful employment, salary padding, payment to dead or retired individuals, unlawful replacement, inflation of the wage bill, as some of the payroll infractions discovered from the audit.

He assures that, workers who were successfully screened will receive their salaries before the end of this week, noting that government is not only fishing out ghosts workers and removing the padding associated with payroll fraud, but also putting in measures to ensure the systems are protected going forward.

We concede ministerial appointment to Wike---- Rivers APC stakeholders

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State have urged President Bola Tinubu to consider former Governor Nyesom Wike for ministerial appointment.

The stakeholders under the aegis of Amalgamated Bola Tinubu Campaign Council, Rivers State, led by former Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Government and stalwart of the party, Chief Tony Okocha, explained that the call was premised on the role Wike played in Tinubu’s victory during the February 25 presidential election.

Okocha urged the public to disregard what he described as cheap political stunts by the former governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Magnus Abe, in Rivers state to suddenly take the front seat in Tinubu’s political veranda, after he left the APC at a time he was most needed.

Attributing the victory of the APC in the state to the effort of Wike, Okocha said he played the role of keeping the APC together when major stakeholders of the party turned their backs.

He said: “When Ameachi had left, Magnus had left what remained was the little I could control with an amalgamation of support groups. From 1999, PDP has been in control of Rivers state back-to-back. Even in 2015, when I was Chief of staff, Ameachi was governor and during that Presidential election, APC scored about 69,000 votes, PDP scored about 2 million votes and we were in charge and he doubled as the DG of Buhari in 2015, in 2019 Wike had become governor, it became even worse.

“In 2015, APC scored 7 per cent, in 2019 we scored 5 per cent. Then, in 2023 APC is now winning. What was the magic? Wike’s PDP scored 32/32 in the state House of Assembly in Rivers state, Wike’s PDP scored 12/13 of House of Reps seats, Wike’s PDP scored 3/3 of the senatorial seats, Wike’s PDP won the governorship and then Wike’s PDP did not win presidential election in Rivers State. What happened?

“Is it not the reason that all of us know that the G-5 Governors said until things are made right, until power shifts to the south and that until Ayu resigns that they will not work for Atiku. Now, the spin doctor who made sure everything worked out for Tinubu, was Wike.

“We have 6,868 polling units in Rivers state across 319 wards and across 23 LGs and you and I know that every politician has his own polling unit agents that are paid on stipend or the other. Who paid for the 6,868 agents in Rivers for APC?

“The activities of the G-5 is instrumental to the success of Tinubu in Nigeria politics today. Look at the ratio, APC won 12 states, PDP won 10 states. Assuming PDP people worked together, they would have taken more states. I am telling you that in our own case, I am saying it categorically, I would have been the one person to say no don’t give it to him because I had the house. He didn’t come to see an empty house. I would have decided to appropriate everything to myself and behave like a crab.

“If you have somebody that is more than you, why don’t you invite the person? If he helped us to win in 2023, are we now going to tell him to come to us in 2027 to help us win? Why don’t we bring him in because he has value to add. No politician in Rivers state today can surmount Wike. No one in Rivers state can challenge Wike. He is the best.

“We are saying that whatever is due us as Rivers state as should be handed over to Wike because he knows who worked for Tinubu in Rivers. I would have claimed it all because I was the last man standing when everybody took off but we are saying, look, this man contributed more.”

Those of our people singing praise of the thief can now see better why FRANCIS AGBO can never impress me and can't be my friend. Black pot calling another pot black.

The 2022 Constituency Projects. All these were done by Francis in 2022 and more than 50% of the funds went to him. His proxies did all the jobs for him which he received more than 50% of the sum as kickback...

OTTAH, GO BACK AND COMPLETE THESE PROJECTS OR RISK JAIL. Public office is a sacred position meant for Godly minded people and not devils like Francis.
