NCCU STUDENT CROWNED NEW MISS NORTH CAROLINA

Miss Johnston County to represent the state at the Miss America pageant

HIGH POINT (June 30, 2024) – Miss Johnston County Carrie Everett was crowned the new Miss North Carolina at High Point Theatre yesterday evening. Everett, a rising sophomore at North Carolina Central University (NCCU), will represent the state at the upcoming Miss America pageant. Everett promoted her community service initiative “We Need Equity to Build Communities” and performed a musical theater vocal to “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” from “Dreamgirls.” As the new Miss North Carolina, she will receive $20,000 and a car for the year from Knox Auto Sales in Dunn. She was also awarded an additional $3,500 in scholarships for other awards she won during pageant week, including preliminary talent, preliminary evening gown, the vocal talent award, and the rookie scholarship.

“Throughout the 87-year history of the Miss North Carolina competition, this organization has been proud to recognize our state’s most accomplished young women,” said David Clegg, President and Chairman of the Miss North Carolina Organization Board of Directors. “The crowning of Carrie Everett marks another opportunity to present to the state the unique experience, talents, and civic commitment of this exceptional NCCU student.”

Everett is the fourth Black woman to win the title since the pageant began in 1937, following Deneen Graham (1983); Alexandra Badgett (2019-2020); and Karolyn Martin (2022).

"When I registered to compete this year, I only had $40 in my pocket,” said the newly crowned Miss North Carolina, Carrie Everett. “That is the reality of many young women in this country. I believe in the Miss America Opportunity, what it has done, and what it continues to do for young women like me. With this title, I am empowered and ready to facilitate a new culture of equity within this brand."

Here are three fun facts from today's Episode

1. Renaissance Classical Christian Academy intentionally operates with minimal technology to help students slow down and master their education.
2. The school places a strong emphasis on teaching Latin, which is considered foundational for various disciplines, including law, medicine, and science.
3. Cursive writing is taught at RCCA because it involves fewer hand movements, helping kindergartners learn to write more quickly and connect learning more effectively to their brain.

There was a snake that crawled over a sharp saw and was cut. In anger the snake wrapped the saw with its thick body and proceeded to squeeze the life out of the saw.

With each angry squeeze it felt more pain but continued because it wasn’t going to let the saw get away with the pain it caused it.

The snake, refusing to let go of the saw, eventually died; not knowing the whole time, he needed to let go of the initial pain and focus on its future and where it was going. Instead, the snake unfortunately lost its life and didn’t even see it coming.

Control your anger, forgive those that hurt you, and don’t give people or things power over you. It can eventually kill you.
