I CANT GET ENOUGH OF THEM!!

So here we have a very unique and extremely fun . The whole idea was to take the composition of the to #174 but give it a twist. Instead of and his rogues in the block letters, it would be and his ! I gotta say, this is EXACTLY the sort of homage that I love to do because in order to really understand what makes this composition effective and engaging, well you have to draw it up. I am one of those folks who agrees that you must study a great image, and by study I mean, if you can, draw it. Construct the same image, but do so in your own way, with your own process. And see if by doing so, if your process is more efficient or less. Does it garner the same product? If not, then is the finished product that you created an improvement over the original or not? You learn so so much, and not JUST about the craft itself! So I love doing these! I just hope that you dig it too!

Now when I was working up this of I wanted to try to do two things.

Priority one: to play around with the shapes and forms. I wanted to see how much visual info I could omit and it still read not only as , but also still be powerful and intimidating. And as someone who has always drawn everything over and over again to sort of always strive for getting it "just right" well to let that go and instead of using an additive approach, use a subractive approach to working up this character, well it was a challenge FOR SURE! But I think it worked out!

And priority two was I wanted to also put in elements that would illustrate the conflict within him at all times. I used specific colors for this as well as what they represent and how they would be aligned to the helmet. What do I mean? Well the main highlight of the helmet would be the found in the red side. My intent was to have it represent an ignited red lightsaber. This is the dark side, the sith, this is . But I wanted to put in the blue side as well. This is the light side, the , this is . But note the placement of the highlights. The red blade is clearly in front of him. It represents the here and now. The present. The blue blade would be behind him. It represents the then and there. The past.

These colors and what they represent dance and rage against one another in a sea of black. It represents the pain carries with him everywhere he goes. He cannot be rid of it, so instead, he uses it. And in so doing, it takes what was once a loving son, husband, and father and distorts him into a monster.

I think about these sorts of things when I am working up these pieces. Maybe I overthink things! I dont know. All I know is I hope you like it!
