2020 has been a wild ride. In May, we hosted the first annual CUE DJ competition, a competition that shone the spotlight on kiwi DJ's playing homegrown music during NZ Music Month.

Snead Place won with a mix full of flavor and undiscovered gems spanning genres and moods, and, despite some setbacks and a global heath crisis, we're stoked to finally bring him down to play for us live at Flux!

Chosen as a Wildcard by TJ from Room One, us here at CUE knew Snead Place was the dark-horse of the competition. The Hamilton man treated us all to a mix featuring kiwi classics, incredible dubs and a flow like no other through many genres. Snead Place owns his kiwi flavour.
A landslide win, all four judges voted him to be their #1 entry.

AAAND Just like that - We have our TOP TEN! Firstly, thank you to all the talented artists that have put together mixes, we had over 15,000 plays on our Soundcloud and a massive 2,500 likes! With listeners all over the country and all over the world.
There have been some amazing entries and we have been blown away by the quality and originality of them. We also would like to thank everyone who has voted for their favourite mixes and supported these artists in hopefully reaching the top 10. And last but certainly not least.... We also have an announcement to make! Due to the quality and level of mixes we have our good friends, TJ Pak from Room One and Raphael from Flowidus, to be deciding on two WILDCARDS within the coming days. INTRODUCING OUR JUDGES:
Here at CUE we are proud to announce our four Judges that will be hearing and judging your mixes.
NZ Drum and Bass Pioneer, Matthew Harvey from the legendary Concord Dawn is our first judge. Spanning a career of over twenty years Matthew has seen and heard it all.
Audiology Head Honcho & full-time GOAT, Mitch Lowe is our second judge joining us. The man behind NZ’s biggest festivals; Bay Dreams, Mardi Gras, Soundsplash and so many more, let alone hundreds of tours of his favourite international Producers & Bands.
Our third judge is George FM Days Host and self-confessed lover of all things House and Disco, Sin Howard. A DJ and personality who has taken NZ by storm over the last few years.
The self proclaimed “Freestyle Rap Enthusiast” Jules Craft is our fourth judge. Whether you have seen him creating art installations at NZ’s biggest Festivals with Department of Arts, or tearing up some of NZ’s biggest stages as “MC Crafty” he is a force to be reckoned with!

We've had some messages regarding what is considered Kiwi what isn't. So we thought we'd clear it up;
- You are allowed to include a track thats been remixed by a Kiwi but you cannot use a track that is a Kiwi song but remixed by an International artist. EXAMPLE: You could use Fatboy Slim - Ya Mama (Magik J Remix) but you wouldn't be allowed to use Shapeshifter - The Touch (Netsky Remix).
- You can use a song that has featured or is co-produced by a Kiwi eg. Alix Perez & Headland - Ends.
- You can also use a song that features a Kiwi vocalist eg. Logistics ft. Thomas Oliver - Stay True.

Welcome to CUE!
We are so excited to bring you what will be New Zealand's largest mixing competition to run within NZ Music Month!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

WHAT’S THE POINT?
It’s New Zealand Music Month! And we all know the best music comes from home. We want any DJ’s & music lovers alike to be finding, collecting and using the best NZ Music there is… and what better way to do that than a friendly bit of competition!

WHAT DO YOU ENTER?
A 15-30 minute long mix, compiled of only songs by New Zealand artists, or remixes/bootlegs by New Zealand artists. A track-list must be provided to ensure this is the case too. It can be created with any hardware/software.

WHO DO WE WANT?
ANYONE! This competition is open to all Kiwis, nationwide! Just make sure you're over 18, you live in New Zealand and that you bring your A-game.

WHAT GENRE?
Anything! No matter the BPM, we wanna hear it! As long as it’s New Zealand made.

WHO’S JUDGING?
In the coming days we will be announcing four Judges that will be joining us on this journey. These guys are huge names within the New Zealand electronic scene and reflect many genres.

ARE THERE PRIZES?
Any good competition has even better prizes! All because of our awesome sponsors, Serato, PALS, LP Photoo and RDU 98.5 FM we have the best prize pool around.

WHAT AM I JUDGED ON?
Through out the duration of CUE 2020 you will be judged on three main criteria.
Technicality, Originality and Creativity and Flow - Check out the “Notes” section of our page for more information.

WHATS THE JUDGING PROCESS?
The initial stages will be judged by public vote, which will be by liking the mix via soundcloud. The top 10 are then presented to the judges, where they decide the top 4. These top 4 are then decided by 50% public vote, and 50% the Judges final decision.
