Pakistani universities need to be made autonomous and given academic freedom in order to mould their students into good citizens.

The speakers at the session 'Higher Education: Creating Good Citizens, not just Good Students’, moderated by Fauzia Shamim also recognised the need for major reforms in the country's education policies and system.

"We have spoiled our children while our education system focuses neither on creating good students nor good citizens," HEC Chairman Dr Tariq Banuri said when asked in what ways the Pakistani universities could create good citizens besides good students.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan announced Monday that his country will import about 2 million tons of wheat from Russia and buy natural gas as well under bilateral agreements the two sides signed last week during his official trip to Moscow.

Khan pressed on with his two-day visit and met with President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin on Thursday, hours after Russian forces invaded Ukraine, with Western countries pushing to isolate the Russian leader for his actions.

On Monday, the Pakistani prime minister defended his trip and responded to critics in a televised speech to the nation, saying Pakistan's economic interests required him to do so.

TAIPEI: Taiwan's air force scrambled again on Thursday to warn away nine Chinese aircraft that entered its air defence zone, Taiwan's defence ministry said, on the same day that Russia invaded Ukraine.

The ministry said eight Chinese J-16 fighters and one Y-8 reconnaissance aircraft were involved, which flew in an area to the northeast of the Taiwan-controlled Pratas Islands at the top end of South China Sea.

A Russian beauty queen has opened up about a plastic surgery nightmare which left her unable to close her eyes or even smile.

Yulia Tarasevich, 43, was a runner-up in the Mrs Russia-International beauty contest two years ago, but soon after decided to undergo a range of procedures at a clinic in Krasnodar, southern Russia.

The mother-of-two said her face became badly swollen and inflamed after the £3,000 surgeries, which included a facelift, a blepharoplasty (cosmetic correction of the eyelids) and mini-liposuction.

'I came to them with a beautiful healthy face,' she said.

'I just wanted to correct some nuances caused by ageing. But sadly, I lost my health.'

Yulia said she is unable to move large parts of her face or close her eyes despite having recovered from the surgery and has spent £20,000 in attempts to correct the issue, to no avail.

She has now filed a criminal complaint against the two doctors involved in her original operations, though they claim the complications arose as a result of a rare genetic defect.

A Saudi expert in the cybercrimes has warned the public that sending someone a red heart on WhatsApp can land the sender in jail, Okaz newspaper reported.

According to the Saudi law, if the sender was found to be guilty, he could be jailed for two to five years together with an SR100,000 fine.

In a statement to the Saudi newspaper, Al Moataz Kutbi, member of the Anti-Fraud Association in Saudi Arabia, said that sending “red hearts” on WhatsApp amounts to a “harassment crime”, adding that the use of “some images and expressions during online chats may turn into a crime of harassment if a lawsuit is filed by the injured party.”

He cautioned users of apps against entering into a conversation with any user without their consent or engaging in uncomfortable or intrusive conversations, warning against “using explicit expressions or red heart emojis.”

A businessman sacrificed 101 goats in Hyderabad on Sunday to pray for the safety and long life of Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi. This comes days after bullets were fired at the MP's car in Uttar Pradesh.

This comes a few days after MP Owaisi's car was shot at while he was on his way from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh to Delhi. He escaped without injuries.

Since the attack on February 3, supporters of All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Owaisi have been offering prayers for his safety and long life.

After the attack, the Union home ministry approved Z-category security for Asaduddin Owaisi. However, he rejected the same.

Google Chrome versions prior to 98.0.4758.80 are affected by multiple vulnerabilities, CERT-In has informed users.

Google Chrome users are warned by the Indian government of being vulnerable to cyberattacks due to multiple vulnerabilities existing in the browser. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology's Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued an online advisory to recommend users to update the Chrome browser to avoid targeted attacks, where a hacker could gain access to their systems by using an arbitrary code. The vulnerabilities in question were fixed by Google in Chrome 98 earlier this month. The nodal agency has categorised the severity of the issues as “high”.

“Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Google Chrome which could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on the targeted system,” CERT-In wrote in its advisory.

The leader of the Islamic State (IS) is dead following a US raid in northern Syria that also killed a senior deputy of the terror group, US officials say.

Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi set off a blast killing himself and his family as special forces rounded on his hideout after a gunfight.

US President Joe Biden disclosed the overnight raid on Thursday.

Qurayshi's death "removed a major terrorist threat to the world", Mr Biden said.
