Goats and sheep deploy their appetites to save Barcelona from wildfires! 🐐🐑
Wildfire-prone areas are handed over to grazing animals, who chomp and trample over dry vegetation that could otherwise accumulate as fuel for fires. They will usually leave behind a landscape dotted with open spaces that can act as firebreaks.
Other places, such as in California, Portugal and British Columbia, goats, horses and cattles were credited for helping in decreasing the risk of wildfires in their areas.
Research shows that it is effective to pair targeted grazing with other wildfire prevention methods. Although a researcher has said that it is not a miracle solution, they have acknowledged that it helps landscapes be resilient to fire.
It must be fun to munch-all-you-can while saving your land! 🌿🌱🌳
