The Indian Team Roller Coaster

With India taking a 2-1 lead in the current Test tour of England, the Beardos bring you all the romance and excitement of the last two tests. Even the Marvel Cinematic Universe pales in comparison to the drama that this test team brings to our lives. As usual, we have loads of questions, comments and jokes but few answers –

1. Why is it so difficult to pick Ashwin?

2. Is Rohit Sharma a good puller or a player of great pull shots?

3. Has Rahane’s form been Jinxed?

4. Will the test match at Oval be forever known as the Lord’s test?

5. Has Jimmy Anderson finally got some company other than Sameer Dohadwala?

Tune in and listen to all our thoughts on this momentous tour and the team that just keeps on delivering shocks at every opportunity it gets.

Episode 22 – The Lords of Lord’s

This isn’t an ordinary episode. Just like the Indian team’s win at Lord’s was no ordinary victory! This, in fact, is a celebration!!!

A celebration of –

1. The masterful display of grace and elegance by the Indian openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma

2. The strength, resolve and experience at show from Che Pujara and Jinx

3. The intensity and audacity of India’s finest captain

4. The bouncer barrages and verbal volleys

5. And last but not the least, the emergence of the great Indian pace quartet

Episode 21 – Rain Rain Go Away

While rain may have played dampener for the first test of the England vs India Test series, the Beardos are in high spirits as they discuss-

1. The terribly poor English cloud service that can borrow a page or two from AWS or Google

2. Akshay Kumar’s foresighted tribute to Anderson’s longevity

3. Opportunistic KL Rahul, the not-so-stable Pujara and the lofty standards of Virat Kohli

4. The mighty fast bowling arsenal of India
All this and much more with the usual candour and irreverence!!!

P.S:- The Beardos promise to emulate the Prince of Kolkata if India win at Lord’s 😁

Episode 20 – And the WTC Gada Goes To …

ICC Tournaments. In England. Against New Zealand. Rain and Reserve Days

They say lightning doesn’t strike twice. I disagree. For millions of Indian Cricket Fans this was second time the above sequence struck like a dagger to their hearts
So, trying to put words to the collective grief are the usual suspects – The Three Beardos

Now while New Zealand are the first ever winners of the World Test Championship – and have rightfully claimed the trophy from Om Puri’s Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron Character and have become Test Cricket’s Gada-dhaari Bheem – the Beardos try to analyse what went wrong with Team India’s performance in the WTC

Sameer takes up the mantle of Quizmaster and tests the wisdom and knowledge (or lack thereof) of Amlan and Dipen in his very special WTC quiz

While the boys pay attention to the Women’s cricket team and their 7 year wait for Test Cricket

All this and much more of the usual banter from the Beardos of BCCI -

Episode 19 – Whats in a Name?

“That if we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet” is a quote from Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. This quotation suggests that names themselves do not hold worth nor meaning.
The Beardos, however, set out on their own journey to dissect the meaning and importance of two distinct cricketing names.
First, we weigh the importance of Ranji Trophy being named after the First Indian Test player – Kumar Shri Ranjitsinghji (Full name mentioned in the podcast).
We elaborate on Ranji’s playing career, his contribution to Cricket, his Princely Status as Jam Saheb of Nawanagar and his disdain for Indian Cricket and Cricketers.
Following Juhi Chawla’s questioning of 5G, we ask you to consider and judge the value of India’s premier domestic tournament being called Ranji.

Which brings us to our next question – “To Mankad or not to Mankad?”
Mulvantrai Himmatlal Mankad was the first Indian cricketer to reach the milestone of 1000 runs and 100 wickets in Test cricket. Why then is the name of such a fine cricketer being sullied by the foreign press?
Why is a dismissal so clearly spelled out in the laws of Cricket, always the subject of controversy and debate?
The Beardos have a spirited discussion on the law, its utility, the controversy that surrounds it and the alternatives to replace it.
But the nomenclature in the popular media brings us right back to our initial question - “What’s in a name?”

Episode 18 – IPL in the time of CORONA🙏

Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s book “Love in the time of Cholera” tells the story of love in the midst of calamity.
Something similar is happening currently, as the Beardos cover their love for IPL during this calamitous time. As always, the Beardos hope to bring you cheer via the game that never ceases to spark joy!!!

As IPL completes its first 15 games -
Is Amlan Sengupta already regretting his CSK prediction?? And why is he worried about the kidney’s of SRH fans?

Sameer Dohadwala tries the “taana” tonic to charge up MI’s Pandya brothers in the battle of the brothers!!

And Dipen bubbles up BCCIs bio-security protocols.

A special prize to anyone who can give us an accurate count of the number of times the Beardos mention “Bubble” in this episode on our Instagram - .podcast / Twitter -

Episode 16 - Understanding the DRS
With the end of the ODI series between India and England, the Beardos are excited about the new beginnings. But while that journey towards the IPL might be exciting, it will have to wait. Why? Well it’ll have to wait simply because we need to find out a few things before we move on. What things you ask? Well I’m glad you asked because take a look at this-

1. Is India’s slow-and-steady costing them matches?

2. Is someone being a liar the reason behind Pant being on Fire?

3. Is it time to begin the search for a “Toss Specialist” in Indian Cricket?

Further to this, with almost every series having a “DRS controversy” we seek to clear the air of the confusions in the Umpire Decision Review System. We explain to you the history of the DRS, the technology behind the DRS protocol, its impact on the game and much more. While the umpires have largely been right on a majority of the occasions, we imagine that maybe a Tablet would help them be better!!! Except for Nitin Menon of course, because you cannot improve perfection, can you?

Episode 15 Yo Yo Fitness Test

Survival of the fittest - A term made famous in the Origin of Species by Charles Darwin, suggested that organisms best adjusted to their environment are the most successful in surviving.
Now put that in the context of the recently concluded T20i series between India and England -

1. Did the fittest team thrive?

2. Are Ishan Kishan and SKY most suited to the T20 environment?

3. Can Gabbar and Ash evolve to stage a come-back into this side?

In addition to this, the Beardos look at the modern-day fitness tests in sports. It’s debatable whether the Yo-yo fitness test should be a primary criterion for selection in Cricket, after-all why would you expect cricketers to rap like Honey Singh??
All this and much much more…on this week’s lean, mean episode!!!

As is always the case, our minds are full of questions after the recently concluded Test Series …

1. Did NASA need to spend so much money in search of extra-terrestrial life or would it have been enough to just watch Rishabh Pant reverse sweep Jimmy Anderson?

2. What did Mr. Sundar tell Washington’s team mates?

3. Would England stand a chance if they were to include 30 batsmen in their Playing XI?

4. Why do we always resist Parivartan like Amitabh Bachchan?

5. What is a poor pitch? And who decides that?

For the last answer, in particular, the Beardos have scoured the internet and become overnight experts on everything related to the Pitch. We break down ICC’s framework of pitch assessment for you, so that you can decide whether the pitches in the India v/s England test series were Good, Bad or Ugly!!!
All this and much more in this info-taining episode of the Beardos Cricket Chat and Insight!!

Episode 12 – Review, Preview… Auction!!! LINK IN BIO

Yeh humara episode 12 hai, yeh hum 3 Beardos hai… aur yeh humara cricketing analysis ho raha hai (read that in accent)
Just like the Chennai test was for Team India, this episode is no less than a … And just like Shweta, we never turn off our mics while revealing the following secrets -

1. How Rohit Sharma’s majestic innings brought back some childhood fears for Sameer Dohadwala

2. What were Bob Dylan’s views on the Chennai pitch? – The answer my friend is turning in the pitch!!

3. Did Elon Musk spark the rise in the prices of overseas fast bowlers at the IPL auction?

4. Sachin Baby or Sachin’s baby are they the same guy?
In our favourite part of this episode we look at the “Young guns of India” and give you some insight on what to expect from the IPL first timers … From Chetan Sakariya to Lukman Meriwala, from Azhar to SRK … we discuss which of these gems will shine bright!!!

After the fantastic Victory down under, the spirits were high!! The Morale had been boosted!! And the warm glow of Gabba still lingered when we got to Chennai. The stage was set for India to spin a web around this English team, but it didn’t quite go as per plan.

Ab Joe hogaya so hogaya… but we thought we must discuss the Root cause of this defeat.
Along the way we stumble across a few difficult questions -
· Did Joe Root really say “Kabhi kabhi lagta hai apunich bhagwan hai”??
· Is the Pant-Pujara partnership better than the partnership of Guddu and Bablu from Mirzapur??
· What is the real reason behind Washington’s Sundar name??
· Did Deepika Padukone really predict India’s loss in the first test??

In the end the Beardos sound out an SOS to one Rahul Dravid and ask him to repeat the advice he gave to Kevin Pietersen so that our boys do not repeat their mistakes against Bess and Leach and Kohli doesn’t feel any FOMO. After-all, this is our internal matter.
All this and much more high-spirited talks in this week’s free-flowing chat

In this Very Very Special episode, the Beardos seek to motivate themselves and the Indian Cricket team for the upcoming Boxing Day Test match.

We recount some famous incidents of Sledging in the past to bring out the competitive edge in the team rather than the edges of their bats.

We look back at one of the most memorable turn-arounds in Test match history and take you on a trip to 2001 Eden Gardens and recount how VVS transformed from Vangipurapu Venkata Sai Laxman to Very Very Special Laxman in the same way that Tony Stark transformed into Iron Man.

Look out the story behind some interesting quips on the field –
- Why did Sehwag ask Clarke “Hey Pup, which breed?”
- Why was Javed Miandad so interested in Dilip Doshi’s room number?
- And was Merv Hughes a good bus conductor?

And we want you to tell us “Who said it better?”
- Steve Waugh at Eden Gardens or Vicky Kaushal in Masaan
- Ajinkya Rahane or Tridev’s Sunny Deol

The tadka of T20s, the spice of ODIs and the slow simmer of Tests… put this together with the meaty disputes of the past and add to it the secret sauce of our contest winners battling it out with each other. Sounds like a recipe for a scandalously delicious episode… doesn’t it?

So don’t miss even a minute of this Maha-Episode, where we make some Exclusive revelations, discuss some delicate cultural divides and invite you to ponder on the following questions -

Did Navjyot Singh Siddhu take offence to being called “maa ke …”?

How did Sunil Gavaskar drop Kapil Dev from the team without being in the selection meeting?

Was Ranveer Singh inspired by Tendulkar when he said “Cheeteh ki chal, baz kin azar …”??

Later on, Brett Lee’s brother, Shane, helps one of our guests change his life completely as the battle of our contest winners goes into a Super over!!
